Ds Wife,
From my understanding, it is more like 15 minutes or so. Most of the applicants I have spoken to have indicated to me that they convene and then make a decision, so you sweat and wait outside for a bit. Now at times they actually know if they are going to pass you or not during the interview, so sometimes they don't even have to talk behind closed doors. They really base a lot on that 1 hour of interview information. Just a personal opinion, but I still feel that it is such limited information to make a decision about someone.
Journey,
Unfortunate to hear, but I am pretty sure you are aware that the first time around, is tough. They want to see how long you will stick with them, whether you continue onward or not. I hate to say, but there have been times when qualified applicants are turned down, just because of the mood of the interviewers. First hand knowledge from a sergeant who have conducted these interviews. And yes, this particular sergeant claimed he refused to let an applicant proceed more based upon his mood. I know it is easy to just say "hang in there", but I would be just blowing smoke. In any case, I do wish you the best, you have to look at a bright side, your age in two years will be so called "the optimum age" as what most officers have described to me. They actually like the mature applicant to an extent. Hey and if not, then perhaps an RCMP career is just around the corner. Good luck in the future.

Thanks Malaka, I know what you mean about the "optimal" age thing...The average age that has been making it to the poly with CPS is 36!! Alot of the guys/gals on the streets aren't tooo happy about that since its not solving the manpower problem. They are still going to be faced with people retiring early, I understand the maturity reasoning behind this but c'mon, how many really qualified apps are they losing the RCMP or other forces, that don't have this "standard"?

You're starting to whine. You didn't get deferred because you're not 36 years old. You got deferred because of your performance on the interview. If you ever want to get in focus on what went wrong, don't snivel.
Nobody gets deferred solely on their age.

Hey look it's an anon troll! Well at least Guest is posting things that are just as useless as they normally do.
Keep going Journey at least it's something good to add your next interview! How did you not let getting deferred for 2 years deter you from pursuing a career as a LEO?
I would be pissed too! Give it a few days and then decide.

I think we should at times show compassion, and exhibit certain comments at the right moment.
"Honesty, Intergrity, Ethics, Respect, Fairness Compassion, Courage, And Commitment."

Piss off DaveB
The comment I made is true. The reason I post on all groups anonymously is because of people like you.
Journey is wrong to suggest that he's deferred because of his age. It's insulting to anyone who's gotten in who's over 30 because the suggestion is that their age was a factor, not how they performed throughout the selction process. Besides that I know people younger than him who have got into CPS and RCMP.
The selection process is difficult and unforgiving. Most who apply will not make it. If you can't stand down gracefully then don't take the chance in the first place.
I'm coming to a critical part of my application. Should I get deferred I'll take it gracefully and sure won't be crying about it on the internet.
Furthermore, the point of my post is for Journey to examine why he got deferred. If he spends the next two years thinking it was because of his age then he's only setting himself up to be deferred again.

The thing that kills me is you want to keep posting positive things like honest, truth, ehtics, blah, blah yet you just earlier posted how officers within CPS can, will and have deferred applicants based on thier "crappy mood" that morning. Where was that officers honesty, ethics, morals, blah, blah?? Was it journeys fault that the interviewing officer didn't get his morning BJ which put him in a bad mood? What crap! Where was his integrety and maturity then? And he is a serving member after divuldging what he did to some unsuspecting applicant?!
Police forces are just big boys clubs. They seem above the law and morals, ethics, etc. Do what ever you have to do, and say what ever you think they want to hear. Pull what ever strings you might have. Get your a$$ in the club and the rest is gravy. Then you can be looking back at all the other neively wishful, wanna be applicants saying "man am I glad I am through that".
Maybe people here are taking other peoples "opinions"to heart and that is their downfall. "Do this on the interview, don't do that, make sure you say this..." Maybe going into the interview and poly without any prior knowledge or info from these silly message boards is better?! Food for thought.

"Maybe going into the interview and poly without any prior knowledge or info from these silly message boards is better?!"
Said perfectly. I lurk here and on other boards to see what happens to people as they go through the process. What I have observed by reading threads that go back years is a lot of bad advice and a lot of people that aren't really thinking about what they're trying to do.
Consider this...
By the dept's own standards are you the IDEAL candidate?
Be brutally honest with yourself, are you a good candidate to be a cop?
Are you ok with the good (eatin' donuts at Timmy's) and the bad (having some schizo throwin' his shit at you)?
And most importantly....
In your panel interview when the cops are looking across the table at you do they see another one of themselves?
If you answered no to any of these then either reconsider your application or fix the problem.
Nuff said.

"Just thought that I would maybe point out what might be obvious to some and not others. Journey didn't suggest that he was deferred because of his age! "
Fair enough, I guess that was an assumption based on his response to Malaka.

There is such a thing as constructive feedback. Then there is trolling.
You where doing the latter. Telling someone they are snivelling isn't going to do anything but piss them off and incite a rude come back. But then that's likely what you where aiming to do. Good for you. Hope you use that same strategy if you ever get on a police force too. You will likely find you have lots of success with it. (this is called sarcasm just in case you don't realise that.)
No one needs to be all rosey and happy all the time but at the same time being rude and obnoxious also won't accomplish very much. See how much you appreciate it when I did to you mr Guest? Think about it.

Journey
J I feel bad for you. Believe me, I know how you feel. But take some time off and forget about all of this cop stuff. Then in a couple of months or so when your head is clear, you will know what you what and you will know what to do. I know you know my story and me journey to get where I am. Take the time to be pissed off and upset. You have the right. Walk away from it for a while, then come back and do what you need to do. Ignore some posts and take others to heart.
I will give you a call later this week.
Take care J, say Hi to your little boy for me.

Journey, whatever happens, know that you will become an LEO. It may take a little time, but it will happen. I don't know you as well as some people might, but it seems to me that you have 'what it takes' to be a cop!
Don't let the trolls get to you... they're just out to get a reaction.
