Bas, I had the same situation...the recruiter said that now would be a good time to introduce yourself to the neighbours Don't worry, they just want to make sure that you don't have loud parties at night or are a nuisance to your neighbours. As for the high school trouble, as long as it was minor and you disclose it, there shouldn't be a problem. J2D, I think it depends how many residences that you've lived at, how many jobs you've had, and how many provinces your file has to go through. Luckily, I've lived in only 2 places my entire life, and all my references except one live in Ontario.

2D,
Yes, I was surprised by how quickly and efficiently everything went. However, I am just referring to the Field Investigation part of it. I am sure that there is an in-dept analysis that is done by Ottawa. E.g. Credit check, criminal background check.
However, one thing to keep in mind is that I had provided the Investigator phone numbers of each neighbour. Another factor that might have played a role is the fact that I have lived in Calgary for the last 14 years and I have had only two jobs and moved only 3 times.

The whole process for me is going by so quickly. It seems that there's a real shortage of applicants in B.C right now. I was told that I would be going to depo in Dec but now it looks like it could be the end of Oct. For all that are waiting for RPAT results, please be patient. There is now a great surge of applicants writing, and Ottawa just can't keep up with it. Hopefully all of you score between 3.8 and 5. Anything lower will serverly drop you to the bottom of the barrel. And one more peice of advice...Make sure you have some volunteer expirence under your belt. It's a real advantage nowa days. Good luck everyone and I hope to be spending a cold friggin winter with some of you.

Yeah, I wish I lived in B.C Seriously, if any of you know of Joseph (he's been on this thread now and then), you'll know that he basically was told that the earliest he could expect to go was at least a month away. Next thing he knows, they want him in Regina in 5 days. It's happening all over the country except Ontario ! By the way, welcome to the board Gumbo (and your sister) and Jamie

Thanks Jag and sorry for the provincial confusion....how could I mistake a Albertian for a west coaster One week..wow...you are right though, there are other things besides the obvious phone calls to people in your past. I think your name gets past along to INTERPOL, CSIS, Canada Customs, US Customs, Immigration, and all those other agencies that may have some goods on people. Did they ask for your neighbours phone numbers, or did you just do that on your own...just wondering if I should do same.

can someone shed some lights on the neighbour thing? i actually go and ask my neighbour if he is willing to be my reference for the RCMP volunteer position, and he gave me a look "RCMP???" and gave me lots of crap like he don't know me that well and stuff...
do we really need to have neighbour references?i hv been thinking about this for quite some time, but i don't wanna cause my gf's family any trouble so i prefer not to interact too much with people around.
any advice or comments?

YC....take it easy fellow..you might have a heart attack here.
If you don't really know your neighbour, then don't go to them and confuse them by saying you need an rcmp ref. They might not hear you right and think you said you are the rcmp and start flushing all their coke down the toilet.
Seriously though, the only reason that the rcmp would want to talk to your neighbour is to see if they noticed any problems with you. We all had that a*hole neigbour at one time or another, they just want to make sure that wasn't you. You don't even have to notify your neighbour. The rcmp can most likely find who they want to talk to and if they can't they will ask you to find it.
You seem to be worrying about this too much....do you think they can smell your grow-op (just a joke) ;D

YC, Don't sweat it...they only ask for one neighbor ref in your app package. The main ones they will contact are your past landlords (if applicable). The neighbor ref has to be someone that has "known you" and I use that phrase lightly, for at least 6 months. It doesn't matter if they don't know you from a hole in the wall, they just want to find out if you are a "good" neighbor...eg, do you always have loud parties, or yelling arguments, do you cause problems for other tenants/neighbors...that kind of stuff. If this is the only thing you have to worry about, your laughing!! ;D Jag, The way I understand the BGI process is that the field investigation is usually the most time consuming...running you through the system (CPIC, CSIS,etc) doesn't take that long since that can all be done from the office...most of it anyways. If your's was only a week I would take that as either a really good sign, or a really bad sign ...but I'm sure it's a good thing, if it wasn't the ERT team would have been kicking in your door by now.... ;D J2D

yeah YC I live in the ghetto part of the city (student housing) so I usually keep to myself. My neighbors are the strange people that I only say hi to every once in a while. Althought there are the teenage girls in the hood I try to get close to ahahah.
Do you folks know for a fact that visible minority only need like a rpat score of 3.2 or 3.6 for O division? I am still debating rather or not to take that $50 practice exam in attempt to test the water. For example, if I score a 2.5, perhaps law enforcement isn't for me.
DaveTO, where did they host your interviews/rpat at? I have to drive 2.5 hours all the way to London to take the rpat. Seeing that the test is at 10am and I should be there around 9:30, it is gonig to be a long day... haha

Cab,
The field investigator had phoned me and asked me if I had phone numbers for my past and present neighbours. I had numbers of at least two neighbours from each of my past residence. So, it was no problem!
I guess you should only provide them if asked. Every investigator is different, so just work with them.
Jag
YC,
As the GUEST said, I would not worry too much about the neighbour thing. RCMP has experienced investigators and they will do their own research. If they happen ask for phone numbers just work with them to the best of your ability and keep them in the loop. You don't want to go door to door. Your neighbours might get the wrong impression and it could backfire. Just a simple hello from time to time is probably more to your benefit. Good luck! Jag

Bas,
I wrote the RPAT in Toronto, and had my interview in Kitchener. From what I'm told, most interviews are usually held in London. The reason that I had mine in Kitchener was that they were trying to put through more people in Ontario, so they gave a few files to the Kitchener detachment.

Bas,
if you are going to invest 2.5 hours in driving each way to London, I would spend some money to prepare for the test. Since you are in school - approach the RPAT like you would any other test... do some prep work. I am sure that you would hate to get a 3.19 when some study may have helped you.
Don't worry about the benchmarks for various ethnic origins... just do as best you can. For those who've taken the RPAT, I'm sure you'll agree that you have *no* idea what your score will be coming out of there.
