I just want to pass on some good news I heard. Remember I told you guys about the guy who made it as far as the background check and then got dropped from the PIRL. Well . . .he just received a call from HQ and his application has been re-opened and they are beginning his field investigation! It's always nice to hear good news! Ace13

Just wanted so say good luck and kick a#$ on Monday Ace13! We are all rooting for you. Don't give up and like I said keep remebering that you are not going to let 4:45 minutes stand between you and the career you dream of. Don't wear yourself out in the run portion. 30 to 40 seconds per lap is the pace you want to keep. It should feel slightly faster than a jog. Have anorther applicant time your laps and call out your times to you. The tester may tell you to pick up your pace (don't be fooled), as long as you keep your 30-40 second pace you should have lots of time to finish the push pull without being too tired from the run. Good luck!

Hey Slider. Hope it does go quickly for you...but just a warning, my medical dental etc was all completed in November and I'm still twiddling my thumbs. One of the communities they are doing background checks in has had my file for 5 mth and not yet finished. When I talk with recruiting they say they are trying but just too busy. The frustrating part is the community where I have the most contacts was completed in 4 days!! Oh well, not much you can do about it but it's frustrating when you here of people that have been in the process a lot less time already gone. At one time recruiting told me all the background checks wrere done but the next time I called they said they made a mistake and were still waiting on this one piece. Hang in there and I hope things go quickly for you.

Yeah, that seems typical. I'm not holding my breath that's for sure. What province did you apply from Stillwaiting? That seems like a long time to do a background check. How long since your interview? Well, they do teach us patience.

Applying from BC. Interview was in September. Up until this last background piece everything went very fast but all I can do is wait and stay in touch with recruiting every now and then.

Yeah, I'm BC as well. I don't think it matters when a person has applied but more of luck because if you follow the timelines of all applicants, it doesn't make any sense.

Thanks Sporto,
I am anxious for sure . . .and hopefully I will kick %ss! I am hoping to pick up some time in the laps so that I have extra time to conquer the push/pull. I think the push is going to be the hardest of it all for me . . .so in case the weight touches, I want that extra bit of time to make up for it so that I pass. I figure if I can get at least 25 seconds a lap, it would be more than sufficient. I bought new sneakers so that I would have good grip on the pull so I don't think that will be a problem at all.
It seems like so far in the process, you spend more time waiting, waiting and waiting and you never expect to get any further . . .and then when the time comes (for ex. my PARE in 2 days), I get nervous and anxious. I guess it is because I had so much time to think about it! Once again folks, thanx ;D

Congratulations ACE13, that's great. You already beat the end of Depot time (although there's more weight there) so that must feel great. When I started this whole process I hadn't been very physically active for years (I'm 34) and I got 3:57 first go around. Between my first PARE and my second I didn't do anything too terribly aggressive for training just running and dropped the time to 3:33 so there seems to be improvements just as you get more comfortable with the course. Anyways..congratulations once again. Using the info on the RCMP website and the tips on this page you'll do great on the interview.

Congrats ACE! That is awesome news! You did it with plenty of time to spare. I guess dynamite does come in small packages. Good luck with the rest of your application.
As an aside, I have a relative that graduated from Depot two years ago and I got to see video tapes of her training. It was mostly what I expected. First day everyone is in their dress pants and shirts and ties, nervous, all thumbs. They start your drill and running that day. Everyone was already wearing running shoes so they knew before hand or were warned. It kind of looks like the military with the drill instructor yelling at the recruits and constantly making them do push ups. It showed the recruits doing alot of drill, getting pepper sprayed (which looks absolutely excruciating!), getting exposed to tear gas, taking classes, shooting in the range, doing scenarios like being in a gun fight from your cruiser, going through bunk checks and having their closets ripped to shreds by the instructors, learning to box and grapple, running their PARE. It was pretty amazing to see the recruits go from scared puppies the first day to confident officers as they progressed. I am sure that for those of us who end up making it the wait will be 110% worth it!
