You can modify or delete the repeats, just to let you know. So how did you do when you did the PARE the second time? I am going to go down on Monday to watch some people run it . . .at least I'll have a better idea of what to expect.

No strategy. Just work on your cardio and if you can, strengthen your legs. I would jog up a hill with at least a 60 degree incline. You know the kind of hill that hurts to walk up. Made me sick the first couple of times but your body gets used to it(hehe). Plus DO NOT eat at least 3 hours before you run.

Hi guys, Congrats for your time on the PARE test. Don't forget that when you'll be at Depot (because I am sure that at least some of you will succeed) the weight are heavier and you have to do the test in less than 4 minutes if you want to graduate. You'll see that the majority of your future troopmates are in pretty good shape. In my troop, we were 9 out of 27 who did it under 3 minutes.
A tip too prepare yourself is to run 400 meters laps. 1 lap at low speed (2 mins, 30 secs) 1 lap in sprint (as fast as you can) 1 lap at medium speed( 2 mins) 1 lap at high speed (1 min, 40 secs) 1 lap at low speed (2 mins, 30 secs) Repeat that sequence twice at least 3 times a week.
Don't forget guys that the PARE is only about 4 minutes long at the maximum...so give everything you got. As I said in one of the other topics, this test is IN MY OPINION one of the easiest to do in a law enforcement recruiting process. My suggestion is that you should not stress too much about it.
I pray for the day the RCMP will add push-ups, chin-ups, sit-ups, 1,5 mile run and bench pressing to the PARE.
Anyway, just prepare yourself and you'll be just fine. Simon.

When I was in the recruiting process with the RCMP, I tried to find a website where I could find infos or pictures on how it was once I would arrive at Depot. God knows that they don't have much infos on their official website. I would now give you the internet adress of my troop. I am pretty sure that you will find our site interesting and you will be able to see a lot of photos and stuff. Enjoy. Simon. www.troop11.net

I just heard this weekend that the RCMP combined the four western provinces into one division for recruiting purposes. I believe it was in response to the increased demand for recruits and the short fall in applicants from BC. I think it will mean a quicker entry into depot for applicants from those provinces. I will know more this coming weekend.

Hi guys,
I am really anxious now!!! I run the PARE in one week from today. I acutally went to HQ today to observe the PARE. I had a chance to try the push/pull and it was really really really hard! My sneakers were slippery and I couldn't get a grip and I didn't get to put my chest on the pad for the push, so I think that was a big problem. Hopefully, I'll have better technique when I go down on Monday next week. I found that I could barely budge the 70 lbs the first time I tried to push into it. Then the second time I got it up but it was definitely a struggle to do it. I'm just wondering what it will be like when I'm tired from doing the laps. The pull will be hard but not as hard as the push. I think that because I don't weigh very much, it's a big big disadvantage, along with my short height of 5 foot 2. Guys, anything you can say that will encourage me is welcome. I am going to go down on Monday determined and ready to pass though and I guess that's the most positive thing! Later Guys Ace13

Hi Ace. Well it seems that you now know what your up against. Your light weight and your, ah let say, vertically at a disadvantage....The push will be your hardest obstacle to overcome. Did you read my other post on the tips I gave you? If not a quick tip for the push. Have a friend hold a hockey stick out in front of themselves and you push on the hockey stick while your friend pushes back. This will hopefully give you some practise. Make sure you run and tire yourself out first. Remember that the rcmp final pare out of depot is 4min and the wieghts are 80lbs. Since you played with the push pull you know what you have to do. So my best advise for you is to go and buy yourself a good pair of track shoes for this. I went to the sports store and purchased a really nice pair of Adiddas cross trainers. ( I hate Nikes ) I just keep them for the physicals and for working out in the gym. Still like new. I have seen people there with old worn out sneakers and slip and fall. Hopefully this may help you out in getting that bit of traction that you need at the push station. Best of luck to you Ace Glenn 8)

Glenn, Thanks, I read your post on the push exercise. That's a great tip. I just came home from the gym and I set up a simulated obstacle course . . . so I ran that and practised the pull with the cable crossover machine at the gym. Then ran up and down the stairs a few times. Then my friend, who's big into personal training, helped me a little with the push. I pushed on his shoulders while doing my rotations and he applied resistance. This guy is twice the size of me and he said that I did fine. He thinks that I'll pass it if I push like I was pushing him. I think it is all about the technique and footwear as well. I just bought a new pair of new balance cross trainers too, so that will help. I didn't have the new ones on today though when I tried the push/pull but I know for sure to wear my new ones. I am feeling a little better about it . . . but I guess we'll know for sure in a week how I do. Thanks so much for your advice. It's nice to hear encouragement from the people on this website. Thanks everyone I'll keep you all posted!
