Hey Bas, As far as I know it is all of Canada that need members, RCMP, municipal, provincial, everyone!! The reason it seems that RCMP is mainly focused in the west is that "E" & "K" divisions provide the largest number of applicants, and also they take the largest number of cadets from depot. As for the height thing I don't think they still have that in place since I have met Cst that are sherter than 5'8" (One was actually 5'0"!) when they used to use it, it called for a min height of 5'8" and weight of no less than 140 lbs. Like I said I'm pretty sure they don't still have this req, it would be discrimination based on physical appearance, or something like that.... J2D I think the minimum height/weight requirements were abolished in the 80's under the charter of rights. Usually your weight has to be in proportion to your height. I know a Cst. who is under 5'8" and has 17 years of service.

I'm pretty sure that one of Ace13's posts states that she is 5'2", 118lbs! It's absolutely to the benefit of the RCMP that they are no longer bound by height/weight requirements, look at some of the great constables they're getting. Spoken like a 5'3", 122lb applicant - but still a valid point! ;D ;D ;D Although I must admit that the PARE kicks the @#$% out of me......but that's for another post. Rexina PS I would be very interested to hear about the unique challenges faced by the abovementioned 5'0" constable!

Thank you once again for the quick and positive feedback folks, I practiced that 5 foot jump yesterday and managed to do okay.
Rexina which aspect of the PARE did you find to be most difficult? Was it the push/pull station? I was trying out the 80lb pull at the gym and I do find that demanding at times, depending of what type of execrise I performed before doing the pull.
Back to the height/weight topic, I am currently 5'8" and 200lbs. Because of my weight I am suffering in the distance run, but I am working on bringing 1.5 miles time down to around 12 minutes by running 2-4 times a week. Right now I can complete the 1.5miles in around 16 minutes.

From what I've seen, the push is the most challenging if you are...ummm...verticaly challanged...since it is a lot more difficult to keep the handle straight when your pushing from a downward angle...but, i think that's more of an issue for someone under 5'5"?? The pull "should" be the easiest part, and take the least amount of time. That's why they recomend doing the push first...The push is a challenge, but if you do it first after the course, you should be fine. Remember 4:45 is ALOT of time to complete the PARE! Pace yourself and you'll do fine. I'm 5'11" 210lbs, and don't do very much cardio, I was a little worried when i ran it but I still pulled a 3:42 plus 5 sec (Mat penalty )so if MY lazy fat @$$ can do it, so can you!!! ;D J2D

Bas, It sounds like you're doing a great job preparing. The mat is a biggie, because if you can't make it those 5 second penalties add up over 6 laps! I've seen someone fail it for that reason. For me, the most challenging aspect hands down is the push/pull. Because of my size, it feels more stable if I shuffle my feet in a sidestep - bad technique because it takes so much longer than simply turning your lower body and "walking" the arcs. But when your heartrate is maxed and your brain is numb, there's just no thinking rationally. That thing is my nemesis. It seems that anyone big enough not to have too much of a problem with the push/pull finds the controlled falls (between the push/pull and after the vault) a doozy. They're hard to get up from quickly when you're that winded. There is definitely a mental aspect to the PARE as well, it can be a huge confidence buster when you feel so wrung out and awful afterwards. It's disheartening and you think "darn it, I trained for this and LOOK at me!" I try to remind myself that it does that to everyone.....even if they don't look quite as KO'd as I feel! I like the suggestion of Halls cough drops before and after, I bet that works great. The first time I ran the PARE I had abdominal surgery only 3 weeks before, and I passed with 4:32. I trained religiously for 3 months before my second run, and only managed to shave 10 seconds off! How discouraging. Like I said, it boils down to technique. I did feel a big difference in recovery time though, with the preparation I was up for anything in about 20 minutes post-PARE. Even lunch. LOL ;D Wow, got a little lengthy there, sorry about that! Rexina PS Great job on your running time/distance. Good for you!

Hi all,
Thank you for valuable techniques on the PARE, my observation for the PARE is that with preparation on cardio and weights, it is possible for a non-athletic person like myself to finish within the required timeframe. Having said that, I will keep up with my the training.
Regards, Bas

Phew...... RPAT results finally back. 4.50! I figured out the calculation as to how they come up with the final score, but I had to take the square root of a negative number.

Hello everyone, It has been a couple of weeks since I last posted, a lot has been happening here ! Thanks to those of you that responded to my firearms training question a while back. Welcome to all the new people on the board. Rexina, your story is inspiring. Going after your dream after not achieving it the first time around is very admirable. You have an incredibly positive attitude that is contagious. And you are a fellow BC'er !! Good luck in the future ! Conratulations DaveTO !! That is awesome news ! 8 hours ?!! Wow! Congrats also to Impy on your RPAT score. 4.50 ?!! What are you some sort of mutant freak ? LOL ! That's awesome! The date is almost here that I am finally allowed to send in my application. I received it in May, but can't send it until August 6 - Sept 4. I have just about everything complete. I am running the PARE on Sunday - I saved the best for last. I have an interview question - I have read a lot about the regular member interview and I understand the types of questions and the format involved, but I haven't heard much about the security interview. I am not looking for the questions they ask, but what can you tell me about it as far as what they are trying to find out that they don't get from regular member interview. How is it different? Also, which one is usually first ? I know some people have had them both on the same day but are they normally ?
