Hmm...guess I didn't word the CPS comment very well ...set off some good discussion though. Phil and Mountie2be make very good points, and I should have put more detail into my post. If someone is thinking that CPS is easy it isn't. Thier interview is one of the hardest to pass in Canada...and they are very specific in what they are looking for in your responses. However the comment about CPS, not wanting to be second choice, may not be 100% accurate. I have already been approached by CPS twice, to try and get me to apply with them, but RCMP is what I want. I think it more a matter of they just want the best the can get...I know 3 Cst with CPS that applied to RCMP and then CPS. ONe was deffered by RCMP, and the other two applied to CPS after the interview with RCMP, and got on in Calgary before the RCMP could complete their BGI's....but enough of this CPS talk!! People will think this has changed to a CPS/Poly thread!! J2D

Reb, That's what I'm figuring too. I know that being in "K" in could be more like 10, but I haven't talked to anyone from "K" that took longer than 18 months, with the odd exception to that of course. So realisticly I'm hoping for 6 months, but expecting about 8....Only time will tell of course! Don't worry Tim, you'll make it there...eventually...;D J2D

Longshot Your comments on people who live in trailer parks... are people who are poor, drink too much, etc... Typical comments from a immature and spoiled little brat. A rejection letter is the second best thing that could happen to you, the best is that you with draw your application from the rcmp asap. With your attitude to people who live in trailer parks is narrow minded and pathatic. I would hate to know what you think about mintorities and people from other walks of life. You should spend some time on skid row, you might learn something.. Skipping the cop thing and go right into a FBI sort of crime fighting.....see above....and spend sometime on skid row, then you might see what life is really about. Being pampered all your life while going to college hasn't taught you a thing... If you really want to serve the public but don't know which way to go....I suggest you volunteer at a shelter in your town for a year....it may open your eyes... All done, application withdrawn. I'll apply again in a couple years. I was a volunteer with a local church group that helps the poor here in Victoria for about six months. I ran into a bunch of people who were crazy and lazy, no exceptions. The crazy ones should've been in an institution and the lazy ones needed a kick in the behind. I believe in personal responsibility and their whiny, pathetic excuses nauseated me. I resent giving them welfare money so they can buy booze and cigarettes and drugs. The Victoria PD members I ran into weren't a bunch of bleeding-hearts like some of you people either. You utopians are gonna learn the tough lessons real fast on the street. The most liberal rookie cops usually either burnout fast or turn into the biggest jerks. And I have no problem with minorities... I even somewhat agree with the RCMP's affirmative action hiring practices.

Tim and Dave, and anyone else who has an interview soon...
It occurred to me this morning that with all the preparation and nerves, it's easy to overlook that the interview is, for the most part, actually an enjoyable experience. The interviewer wants you to represent yourself well (or accurately, anyway!) and will put you at ease. Even if it runs 5 hours (which mine did) it doesn't feel like it. The worst part of the whole thing was sitting and waiting to be called in to start! Not to mention the stress of the week leading up to it.
Try to remember that in the days and hours preceding your interview, it may help you relax and be able to eat something! Especially breakfast on THE day, that's important.
Don't forget that firm handshake and good eye contact, that's a biggie. Another thing to consider, I was permitted to bring a bottled water in with me, and I found it very welcome because you do A LOT of talking.
Good luck you guys, I'm rooting for you, and looking forward to hearing about it!

Thanks for the pointers Rexina, I will remember to relax before the interview (should get that far ). How many interviewers were there at your interview? Is it a panel of people or is it one person? Bas

Hi Bas For my interview there were two Members, but one was merely observing as he was training to take over my interviewer's position in the near future. Otherwise it was conducted as it normally is: one on one. It was pretty easy to forget he was there. Congrats on the successful lasik surgery by the way, I don't wear glasses but I can imagine how exciting that must be! Rexina

Rexina,
For me lasik is definitely a change for the better ;D, I can see quite well now.
Question for all: Is the demand for new rcmp officers still concentrated in western Canada? Does anybody know what the height requirement for police officer used to be? I am only 5'8" and a fairly heavy person, but I have been training since last September on weights and cardio.

Well, I'm off to my interview...
I'll post how it went tomorrow. Thanks for the vote of confidence Rexina and everyone.
Bas, I don't think there is a height/weight requirement, as long as you can pass the PARE. If you were really obese, you might fail the medical checkup, but I think it would just be harder on you when you get to Depot (a.k.a. run yer ass into the ground)

Hey Bas, As far as I know it is all of Canada that need members, RCMP, municipal, provincial, everyone!! The reason it seems that RCMP is mainly focused in the west is that "E" & "K" divisions provide the largest number of applicants, and also they take the largest number of cadets from depot. As for the height thing I don't think they still have that in place since I have met Cst that are sherter than 5'8" (One was actually 5'0"!) when they used to use it, it called for a min height of 5'8" and weight of no less than 140 lbs. Like I said I'm pretty sure they don't still have this req, it would be discrimination based on physical appearance, or something like that.... J2D
