Well I talked with my file manager this morning...and discussed my interview He explained that you need to pass each comp to pass the interview. I did not have a good example of one of the questions on leadership....so I failed the comp..fail the interview... So even though I passed all the others, I didn't pass the one on leadership. I failed...one comp doesn't make up for another...as in strong here a little weak here, so overall....no don't work that way...got to pass all of them. So hopefully I can learn something from this and pick myself up and carry on. I do have a couple of applications in the works out there. So I may give it another shot with Calgary. My deferral end in Aug..so lets try it again eh!.. Rexina...to anwser your question. Two months ago, if you failed the interview you were deferred for a mandatory two year. Now as of two months ago, it is a min of one year....before rewrite.. So thats about it.. Now where in the hell is my stick.......hopefully I can get it back on the ice..... G

cdncop2be, thanks for the info regarding the new mandatory deferral time. Funny, I've just spoken to someone at "E" Div Recruiting HQ a couple of weeks ago and they weren't aware it had gone through yet. I was thinking about attending a nearby info session on the 22nd, just to see what's all changed since I went a year and a half ago. Maybe I'll do that and see if I can ask the recruiter directly what the heck is up with that.....and if there's any hope for me pleading a lesser "sentence". Funny, my "soft comp" was leadership, too. Ouch! Who would have thought that would be so difficult to demonstrate satisfactorily?? It's kind of a running joke in my family now - everytime I do anything even remotely related, I get responses like "You leader, you!" Sheesh. Ah well, I guess humour is a good way to deal. Glad to hear you're looking for your stick. I'm impressed. Rexina

cdncoptobe, Its good to see that you are starting to come around a little. Getting deferred sucks, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. At least you know now what you have to improve on and I'm sure you will make changes to ensure that you will improve where you went wrong. Apply everywhere else in the mean time. Calgary and Edmonton are desperate for people and recruits are getting pushed through pretty quick. You seem like you are very determined stay with it and I'm sure your dream will come true.

G, Deffinetly look at Calgary...they are really hurting for applicants...in the last round they NEEDED to hire 400 Cst. Well they only got 600 applications, and at least half of those don't pass the written exam, figure another 50% won't pass the interview/poly/ etc. and that only leaves you with 150 new officers to fill 400 positions. and yes theya re moving very quick. If I decided I was sick of waiting for RCMP, I could put in an app to CPS and be hired before my BGI was even completed...but I really want RCMP!
Still no luck with my email obviously...ah well

Please don't take this as a lecture, cause I know you want to be a cop as badly as me and the rest of the people on this board, but look at it as advice. My advice to you, first off, is don't necessarily jump at the Calgary situation again. Evaluate ALL your options, and whether or not you want to be in the RCMP or somewhere else. Applying with Calgary for the sake of getting a job in policing is not the right thing to do, even though they are desperate for applicants. If you really want RCMP, stick it out. CPS (at this point) is not interested in being second choice for applicants that want to be with another service. My file manager made this abundantly clear with me (only after I asked) and this is what I've heard from other sources in CPS. Plus, coming off a bad interview with the RCMP will only make them examine you in that interview room even further, and they will expect more out of you. Calgary is desperate, yes. However, I am one of the OTHER half that made it through the testing and the interview, and STILL have not received word on my polygraph date, etc etc. They are not so desperate that they will hire just ANYONE. CPS will not be a "band aid" solution that will fill the gap until you get hired on with RCMP. They will not respect that, and certainly won't look highly upon that if you do get hired and are looking for good work references when the RCMP start examining you again. Think about it that way.. get on with Crimestoppers or police related volunteering of some sort, expand your horizons, and make yourself a better applicant for the RCMP when are you ready to go again. Remember, people in this line of work expect committment, and I know you are aware of that. If you want to commit to CPS, do it. If you want RCMP, do it. For your sake, be sure of what you want and do things to further yourself and make yourself better for the next time around. Just my two cents.

Phil: I am glad you decided to post what you did, very valid points and well written. I agree with you 100%, choosing another police force after being deferred or frustrated with timelines is not the answer because you will always want what you tried to have before and gave up on. Never "settle", if you "settle" you only exist...focus on your dream and live. This goes for anything in life you could encounter, career, etc.. I wish you the best of luck in your process. Hello,
There seems to be a sense that only the RCMP are difficult to get on with and if that doesn't work then go to Calgary because it's better then nothing. CPS is one of the most respected services in Canada and N. America in both training and service provided.
I think some RCMP applicants should consider that if it was that easy to get on with CPS then they wouldn't be turning away hundreds of applicants. I respect the RCMP very much and thier quality of their members however I think CPS deserves the same respect.

Mountie2be, I couldn't agree more. I think we all need to examine that and live by those words, including you, cdncop2be. I realize how hurt you must be from your deferral, but DON'T GIVE UP. You know what you want, so strive for it, and achieve it. You KNOW how to deal with that leadership comp now, and how to answer it. You are armed and ready for it the next time around. You know you can do it, and we have faith in you.
Mountie2be and everyone else, good luck in everything. Like you said, never settle, and ALWAYS go for what you REALLY want. We all want this job more than anything, and we all know who we want to work for. No one force is any worse than the other, but we all favor one for some reason or another. If you want it bad enough, stick with it and sit out your deferral or whatever adversity you may face. Be strong and learn from it.
Especially for the RCMPers out there: You want to become a part of something sacred and important to Canada's heritage and traditions. When you finally get your red serge, you will look back and be proud that you stuck with your guns and waited it out.
