Jeez! I wish I lived out in BC. It seems like your applications are moving at light speed, compared to Ontario, where they seemed to have popped the clutch Oh well! Congrats to everyone who is moving along, and for those who aren't...well...such is the life of an RCMP2be

I guess it's not too bad for only handing in my application 8 days ago.

That's about the right amount of time for the initial application package...I got a letter from them wanting some more medical info exactly 7 days after they received my package. No phone call though... ;D

Yes, I know that the whole application process out here seems to go quickly! Frankly, it's been a bit freaky. What if I end up going to Depot in January next year, instead of July?! I'd freeze to death! Speaking of leaves of absence... there are rumours floating around my company that they may be offering a voluntary departure buyout! I'd stand to make up to $40K just to quit. If I did get into Depot... the timing would be incredible! So many variables to consider... sigh....

Is it to late to apply I could use some quick cash if I make it to Depot. ;D
Congrats marcusinmb, any new advice from somebody who just graduated from depot.
Doesn't look like anything will be done with my appilcation for awhile as the recruiter here in Calgary is on vacation for a month.

YYC,
Your security interview took only 1 hour??? Mine took 2.5 hours and I didn't have to explain too much in terms of my past (just a little angel I am) It was pretty much a "no...no...no" type interview with me but just going through the questions and updating my file took a while. Hum, you must be a better angel I am I guess.
macguy9, I am a BC applicant too and I never recieved any calls to update me. I hope this is a new trend in BC (and Canada) because just knowing where you are at is soooooo nice. Oh yeah, 40K to quit a job would be sooooo nice too.
Anyhow, I tend to like Jags point on the P issue. I think that the RPAT, the interview, and possibly even the medical are not the absolute indicators of who would make the best cop. People that would be awsome cops probably get a low score on the RPAT, fail the interview for some reason (nerves etc) or have some medical condition that would most likely not effect their job. HOWEVER, this is a human system and there will be flaws, BUT there has to be some way of weeding out the good from the not so good. So yes, potentially good cops will fail the RPAT, the interview, the medical, and the poly. This is too bad, but how else could you do it? With all the responsibility and access to info that police have, this seems like the only system that works. Lets just hope we are not in that very low percent of good applicants that gets eliminated due to a human system. We could always wait until 2050 when they might just have a mind reading tool that can extract all the relevant info for applicants and get processed in one day. OK, now I'm just getting silly ;D

MarcusinMB, Congratulations on graduating !
I agree with most regarding the poly. Like Jag said, I think there may be something to learn here with Guest's history, but let's start a new thread for polygraph if it is needed.
Speaking of new threads, I started one regarding RCMP versus municipal forces. I would appreciate any input you guys have over there. I did not want to tie up this thread in case the question was a repeat, so I started a new one.
Rebel 2232, A couple of pages back you asked if anyone else received an app pack in May from E div. I received mine the end of May but it said specifically not to send it in until Aug 6- Sept.4. Does anyone know why this would be ? When did you write your test Rebel ?

Hi Dalex, I wrote the RPAT way back in Nov 2002. At that time the recruiter stated that appication packages would be sent out in April 03...but they were late and it didn't arrive until the 2nd week of May. My package was due on July 4th, 03. As to the specific dates....I think that the recruiting office doesn't want to mix the batches of appications up...to keep things organized on their part (I guess ). When did you write the RPAT ? Rebel 2232, A couple of pages back you asked if anyone else received an app pack in May from E div. I received mine the end of May but it said specifically not to send it in until Aug 6- Sept.4. Cab, I agree with your comment about some good applicants will not make it throught the process. I think when an employer has a high standard in their hiring practice, good people will get eliminated as a result of the system, not the person. If you look at the other side of the coin, if the RCMP was more relaxed in its hiring practice it probably wouldn't be such a highly regarded organization.....and I'm sure there would be a lot of internal issues too.
I didn't make the first cut on the RPAT selection last fall, but made the one this spring......was I a crapy applicant in the fall? Nope, same guy in the fall as in the spring.
So I recieved my app package in May and can't sent it till Aug.

Hi All: I am sorry. I am new to this board, and was just offering some advice Re: poly and truth telling. I did not mean to make a GREAT RCMP thread into a poly one. My mistake. Also, anti poly guest, I did the Calgary poly and passed all OK just FYI. I was deffered at the very end selection meeting and told to "please re apply in one year.." But that is besides the point... Thanks all for posting and answering tonnes of questions about the RCMP. One question for the recent recruits, how much did it cost you to go through out of pocket $$$ Also, for those in Calgary, anyone up for meeting for coffee one evening (and donuts) at Timmy's or something so we can exchange closer notes? Thanks again and sorry for the poly crap. YYC

Rebel, Thanks for the reply. I wrote the RPAT on March 15/03 and got my package in May, so I guess that is pretty good. In one way not being able to send it back right away is good because it takes the presure off of getting it done quick, but as everyone knows, you just want to get things moving. Sounds like things are happening for you now. Good luck!
Does anyone here have firearm experience ? I am considering taking a firearm course and would appreciate any info. Have any of you taken a course ? What do you look for ? I believe Jamaf said (on his website) that after getting to depot he wished he had some taken a course and recomended it to others. I don't want to be taught bad habits that need to be broken at depot, so I want to make sure I take the right kind of course. Any thoughts ?

Hi Dalex. I have had a lot of experience with firearms but I was shocked in depot at how many people put up their hand when asked "who here has never SEEN a real gun" The course only moves as fast as the slowest person. I guess my point was that if everyone has at least a working knowledge of the safety and handling of a firearm before getting to Depot then things might move a little faster in the beginning. This process takes so long for most of us that we would gladly do something with the time if given some direction. I suggested, at the end of the course, that the RCMP at least put on the website a list of courses and or training that it would be nice to have. If you are looking for a good fire arms course then look to your local sporting goods store. You could take the CORE course. (conservation and outdoor recreation education) If you have no interest in hunting then there are usually firearms safety course that each province puts out. I even found a local PPC (police pistol combat) club that offered a 2 day course on ppc. I took it a few months before getting to Depot. If anything it gave me an idea of what I would expect at the range. Here are some links that I hope you might find useful Enjoy ;D www.cpca-ppc.ca/www.bcwf.bc.ca/core/core.htmlwww.cfc-ccaf.gc.ca/en/safety_education/safety_course.aspwww.firearmstraining.ca/main.htm
