Hi All: Long time listner, first time caller. Congratulations to everyone so far who has been moving through the process. Myself, I am from K Division, Calgary. Sept. 19 2002 - Wrote RPAT (4th time) Nov 2002 - Results Feb 07 2003 - Recieved Package Feb 11 2003 - Sent Package to Edmonton Feb 22 2003 - Letter requesting additional info March 19 2003 - Ran PARE April 15 2003 - Letter confirming all is well, am on interview list June 01 2003 (early in the morning) recieved phone call from retired member asking me to come in for an interview soon. June 06 2003 - Interview (2 hours in duration) June 06 2003 - Security Interview (1 hour in duration) 20 min. after the regular interview June 10 - File "reviewed". Allowed to continue. June 26 - Recieved Medical Package and letter stating file is in background. Called Edmonton. The start of your background is not tied to the completion of your medical. They are done seperatly but at the same time. For those of you wondering about the medical, it is a written psych component with possible visit depending on your results, 2 chest x rays (lateral and front) which checks for TB, enlarged heart, lung capacity, etc..., a CBC (complete blood count) which is the basis for further lab tests if abnormal, liver function test, a urine (diabetes) a very long history form, a 12 lead ECG (checks for old heart attacks, heart problems) an audiogram, a dental exam and a check up. July 23 - Final Medical (all results to be reviewed by Force MD) Well that is all. Nice to hear everyone doing so well in the process. Try to ignore the bad ones who discourage you (like getting punted at the end for no "apparent reason ". Also, those wondering about a poly, my interviewer said yes, but my recruiter in Calgary said no. Basically, the poly will be done at the time of the security interview should that be the case. So if your past that point, no poly (at least in Alberta). If your getting to that point, well, tell the truth. Yes, it may be a ploy to extract more info (it works, been there done that) but just be honest. You owe it to yourself. Remember, the polygraph doesnt tell whether you have been good or bad, just whether or not you can tell the truth. However, polygraph or no polygraph, best advice, be honest all the time and up front. In Peace; YYC

YYC,
Welcome to the group. Thanks for calling in... ;D
I'm also in Calgary, and your almost exactly one month ahead of me. Just did my interviews on the 4th. I'm glad that you got your medical package befoer you BGI was completed. My interviewer (retired) told me I wouldn't receive one until after my BGI was complete. So it will be nice to still keep things progressing while I'm waiting for the BGI to be completed. I was told to expect about 6 months for the BGI, did you hear different? I haven't talked to the recruiter since he's on holidays for July...

JD2: There is the problem. I was told by ther recruiter and after the interview that it would be 4-5 months until completion. However, summer is upon us (I think) and everyone is going away for vacation, investigators and recruiters alike. I would suspect this would push our files further into winter months as certainly we wont be investigated from their summer cabins.!

LOL
Yeah that's kinda what I thought as well...I'm thinking that if everyhting goes well, I should be looking at Feb/Mar for my Ranch date. Which is OK, since that puts me there towards the end of the cold months, and will have resonable temps for most of the time, and for July and Aug I would be in "D" Block (?) which I believe has air!! Plus that would make right around 18 months for info session to depot...

Don't be so sure you know what happened during my application process and that it won't happen to you YYC or others on this board. You said you have been there (taken the poly for CPS I assume?) and it did work the way it is supposed to... to extract confessions? (either fabricated or legitimate).
Don't forget you signed a release waiver with the RCMP and if you were truthful during your application you disclosed your former application with the CPS (or what ever minucipal force you applied to). The RCMP will contact the force and receive the reason for your deferal. Municipal forces are excluded from the freedom of info and privacy act and withhold disqualifying poly results indefinately.
If I am right on my assumptions (bad thing to do however) you may be in for a suprize like I received. I truley hope you get through the process unlike myself.
Also, the poly can't tell if you are lying. Do some research and you will be shocked at how it really "works". It is biased towards the truely truthful applicant. For all applicants and current members watching this board I would continue to watch this thread during the implementation of the poly. You will hear an increasing number of applicants posting here how they "failed" the poly. Watch and see.

Guest, of course when they implement the poly there will be more posts from people saying they have failed it, that makes sense! Not everyone will pass the poly, not sure what your point is. Just a suggestion, can we keep the anti-poly posts on a new thread? Anyone who wants to talk anti-poly can create a thread and discuss it till their fingers bleed. The anti-poly posts don't help anyone......if you have to take a poly, you have to take a poly, there is nothing you can do about it, so how is engaging in anti-poly conversation going to help anyone on this board. Let's keep this board positive and helpful.

It has nothing to do with liers not passing the poly. It is the approximately 50% of truthful applicants who get labelled as deceptive. The ones telling the truth who are told they are lying, where you get the bitch sessions such as mine. Anti poly talk may help you to not make the same mistake I did.
Don't be so nieve. If you have to take a test as part of your application process would you not want to know what the test is for and maybe how it works? If you knew anything about the poly you would know it doesn't detect deception. It scares the uninformed applicant into thinking it can, therefore they either confess or don't apply at all. This doesn't even scratch the surface of polygraphers fabricating confessions. You think the RCMP is having trouble now trying to find qualified applicants?? Wait until they implement the poly!
You guys sit there and hack up the anti poly people such as myself because it has not happened to you yet. Wait until it does and see if you sit there quietly when you could be trying to educate people to not make the same mistake you did. Don't tell me not to post here and say you only want to hear positive news and support about processes you are currently going through. Medicals, interviews, background checks, timelines... The poly is unfortunatly coming and when it does I can guarantee you it will consume this post with the same so called BS rhetoric you claim I am spewing now. Be proactive, think out of the box and do a little research into the poly. What could it hurt?

Hello everyone - many of the newcomers may not remember me from the earlier pages 25-40 or so. This forum helped alot during the application process and I'm proud to say that I graduated yesterday in Regina and am now a badged Mountie. It's a great feeling for sure.
I'm heading back to a busy detachment in Manitoba and start work in a week or so.
Hello Storm, ACE, Jamaf and other new constables. Proud to be in the ranks with you. Keep up the good work.

Anti-poly = NEW THREAD!!!
We (any longer term posters) Have ALL heard this discussion before! There is already multiple threads regarding this. ANy new mwembers or observers willr ead those ones if that is what they are concerned with! We know about George M's site. We know about his book. (I've even read it) We ahve heard this stuff too many times! It's always the same arguments for/against and I for one am sick of having to weed through the extra crap when I'm trying to find USEFUL information!! I'm not saying the poly arguements are not useful, the more info you have the better, but lets keep it somewhere else. This is for RCMP applicant questions comments, and last time I checked the RCMP HAS NOT YET implemented the poly. Yes it is coming but lets deal with it when it happens!!! AAARRRRGGHHH!!!
Ok, I'm done on the soap box. Anyone else? ;D

No poly comments, I swear!! ;D
I got a call again yesterday from recruiting! Of course, I was out at my weekly St. John meeting for skills training. When I got home, the call display was flashing, and showed the RCMP telephone number.
I talked to a very nice lady at recruiting this morning, who said she was just offering me a courtesy call to say that she was going to start working my package today. She said that they'd be doing security/background/credit checks, and that after she'd gone through it all, an interviewer would be in touch to arrange an appointment time!
Looks like things are moving along!

As most can appreciate, no one like to be labelled. However, I am sensing that Guest's case might have some truth to it. As someone that is going to work with the public, we need to have an open-mind.
Poly or no Poly, something went wrong with Guest's application. Maybe it was just a simple breakdown in the system. However, it could happen to any of us.
What is critical is the fact that there needs to be a plan in case it happens to you? Most important of all we want to achieve this without putting blame or pointing fingers. I guess, what I am trying say is that an innocent person could slip through the crack.
Guest,
What I would be interested in knowing is if you were differed permanently or just for a couple years. If so, what was your course of action?
I sense that you have become a little sceptical, because you really wanted to achieve this goal and you have come to a road block which is out of your control. I could be off base.
I think there is something to be learned from this.

Jag, I don't disagree with your point of view at all. In fact I agree with you. My big issue is that this subject has been beaten to death, for me anyways. From what I know of Guest's situation, has was initially deffered from CPS for the polygraph, and he believes that this also led to his defferal from RCMP. That's a very breif interpretation, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this Guest. Macguy, Congrats on that! It's not very often that you get a call from the person looking after your file unless something is wrong. It would be really nice if they all provided updates like that. It would help to get rid of some of the waiting frustration if you always had a good idea of where your application was at. J2D

Hey Macguy,
Sounds like you are in the same boat as I am. I got a call last Friday from the recruiter asking me to call them back. I did but just got voice mail (did I forget to include something with my app??). Finally Monday came around and they wanted to tell me that they have opened my package and were starting the initial background check. Sounds like they may start calling for interviews in a couple of weeks.
