Speaking as a heterosexual. When I was at Depot there were quite a few noticable gays and lesbians. Everyone was treated fairly . While you are therer you have one goal and that is to make it through so who cares what sexual orientation someone is.

Jag, I re-ran my pare last month (requested by E Div staffing). You must get medical clearance from your Doctor before you will be allowed to run the Pare. (Same as the first time . But when staffing requests your final pare they will pick up the costs. The same goes for your medical testing requirements. (Blood, x-rays, ect.) Hope that helps, Jas

Rebel2232 & Jas
Thank you both.
Jas did you have a time difference between the first Pare and the re-run?
I will now wait, like the rest....tick...tick...tick..!

Jag,
Jas is correct, you must get another medical clearance before doing the pare the second time, as the medical clearance is only valid for 30 days. As aforementioned by someone else, the medical (the big one with the rubber glove) is only valid for one year.
It did not take me any longer to go through the entire process than any of my other buddies that have applied in the last couple of years. I had a qualifying score right out of the gate on my RPAT and had nothing unusual that slowed me down. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but two years from writing the RPAT to graduating from depot is not unusual, and is perhaps even the norm.

Jag....I guess I stand corrected regarding the medical clearance for re-running the PARE. MY BAD! I'm sure that when I ran the PARE earilier this month the YMCA stated that they had to keep the medical clearance on file as it is good for one year.
Just to let ya all know....This friday night I get to go to a real RCMP briefing prior to their patrol. I wonder if it is just like the breifings on 3rd Watch?

Wow! It doesn't take to fill up the pages these days. J2D, I had to bring a copy of my refrences as well. I had made a couple of changes to my copy so I couldn't bring it. I did up another form on the computer that was as close to the original as possible and brought that with me. It wasn't a big deal. YK, I think that you'll find that most people in LE only care about whether or not you are able to do the job. Sexual orientation really isn't a issue. If you think you can do the job, you should apply. Dropping in, i just completed the medical. It consists of a hearing and psych test, dental examine, blood test, chest x-rays and a full medical. No rubber gloves for me though...thank god! Basically they are looking for anything that will affect training at depot and your future as a member. Other than some obvious things I'm not sure exactly what they are concerned about the most. If you have a specific concern you chould call recruiting. From the blood tests I can only remember a check of my liver and and for diabetes (there was more). The medical was pretty basic, blood pressure, heart rate, balance, reflexes, cooridanation and he goes over your medical history. Sorry, its not much info but I hope it helps.

Jag, I ran the pare for the first time last Nov 2002 - 3:40 I didn't find it difficult but I did run it a bit fast (20-21 seconds per laps) and I took it really easy on the fight portion (weights) making sure I had a clean run. June 2003 I re- ran the pare (second time ever) had a slower run (25 seconds per lap) paced myself but hit the weights bit more aggressively - 3:29 with lots of room for improvement at Depot.... Jas

The blood work also consists of a test for Gamma-glutamyltransferase. It is a liver enzyme that is used as an indicator of intermetiate to high levels of alcohol consumption. The RCMP doctor told me that the RCMP uses a value of 60IU/liter (ppm??). I assume that anything over that flags them to question your history with alcohol. For any of you younger weekend warriers out their I would suggest toning down the partying for a couple of weeks prior to your blood test.

Just another note on the Gamma-glutamyltransferase level, the doc told me that you have to have 6-8 drinks a day over an extended period of time for it to be an issue.

Does anyone know how the RCMP arrives at the final score for the RPAT? Mine was not an average of all categories and to be honest does not make any sence to me at all. I'm wondering if they throw in a factor relating to to do with location, age, race, sex ??
