Dalex,
I am in a similar situation as yours. Married with 2 kids (8 & 11). Family is very supportive and kids are very excited. They had the opportunity to visit Regina a couple of years ago. I have (age appropriate) conversations with them about the 6 months that I am going to be away.
To top it all off, the wife has a retail business. She will have to sell it or get someone else to manage it.
As for moving, we are looking forward to any change. Jag

LOL! I think I'm the only single person left on this board. I don't really have plans to change that at the moment...kinda hard to keep a relationship going while you're off at Depot.

jag, I've completed the hearing, dental, psych and blood tests. I go to see the doc. tomorrow to finish it off. I wonder why there is a posssible 4 month wait to have the medical cleared? Could there be that many medicals going through causing the delay? I think your package goes to Regina for final clearance I'm not sure though. Maybe one of the recent grads can answer that. I received a letter at the begining of April stating the background check had begun... something tells me they haven't got very far on it. Dalex, I'm married as well and we just had our first baby. My wife is very supportive and she has made the process a lot easier. Sometimes I think she is more excited than me. Daveto you will be one of us someday... you can"t avoid it forever, especially after the gals see you in the serge.

Hey Dalex, I've been married for 10 years now too and have two boys, 8, 11. They are all totally behind me through this process. My 8 year old really wants to be a Mountie as well ;D ;D We hope to get posted somewhere in the Maritimes but if not we were thinking about BC.

therecruit1 See, this is how things are different from one to the other. I did not get a letter regarding the background check. Instead, an ex-member called to get the telephone number of my ex-neighbours. Also, I recall that someone else on forum had said they had waited 8 months after they completed everything. I think it was "Guest from Alberta". Yet, there was no mention of a PARE re-run because the results expires every 6 months. Jag

You do have to re-run the pare if six months expires...at least in Alberta you do.

I'm pretty sure you have to re-run the pare after 6 months. I finished my medical today, the doc said he has had at least 2 applicants per day over the last couple of weeks coming in for medicals. Jag, have any of your refrences been contacted?

Wow... busy place - welcome to all the newbies. Recruit - great to hear that your medical went well. Have any of your references been contacted yet? I had my final medical last Friday - all cleared and (small fingers) whew! Plus I have started to hear from my references and the main part of my background has been done! So things seem to be moving right along… Dalex - I just turned 33 and I have been married for 11 yrs. My beautiful wife and I have two awesome children – Girl 7 and Boy 4. My entire family and friends are very supportive…"My kids are looking forward to the plane ride to Regina for grad"....lol Dragon – You're going to love BC (seriously)… Jas

Yes, they did contact all my references. Recruiting said the file has gone to Regina for review.
I guess now I have to wait for the request for renewal of my PARE. Hope the review goes well.

Jag,
I re-ran my pare 15 months after running it the first time. Recruiting will let you know when to do it again so you don't have to keep coming back every six months.

Jag & Jas your applications are progressing pretty good. Hopefully it won't be much longer. None of my references have been contacted as of yet....soon I hope. Jag, no need to worry I'm sure the review will go well.

yes,i am a lesbian, and i am pretty easy to identify.the RCMP recruiters i spoke to was very supportive.she gave me confidence to reveal my sexual orientation.
but i am just wondering what do you guys here felt about?be honest please.

Sexual Orientation is a primary dimension of diversity; you have as little control of it as you do your race or gender.
I have some friends who are gay. No big deal. I know in that in the Toronto Police, there are homosexual police officers. So why not in the nation's police? As long as someone puts 100% effort into their work, I'd be happy to be their partner on the street.

YC, I don't think anyone here would be so narrow minded as to let someone elses sexual orientation bother them or be of any concern to them. If it does bother them then I feel they have no place becoming a police officer. It is the overly religeous, interpret the bible literally type person who may have prblems with that and I feel sorry for those type of people. This is the year 2003 and times they are a changing.
You say the recruiters prompted or encouraged you to state or disclose you sexual orientation? The question I have is what concern is it of theirs? I was under the impression that it is illegal for them to ask? Did you divuldge that info freely or were you prompted to state your orientation?
you also say that you are pretty easy to identify? What on earth did you mean by that? Short of you openly screaming that you are a lesbian or hitting on females on the street, how would one easily tell you were homosexual?
