Thats good news J2D........A minor set, back but at least it has worked out in your favour. Now you have more time to prepare and gain more "life experience". Maybe you could use this experience during your interview. I told you that some of your practice questions were similar to the interview questions although, I didn't think they were close enough to cause a problem. Come on buddy, how can you leave us hanging with "I have some more info but I'm not going to post it publicly,"?

Just nervous about saying stuff I guess... OK, talked me into it....From what I was told, The questions were so close that, if I had done the interview on Tues, and signed the non-disclosure agreement, I would have been in breach of the agreement as soon as I signed it, since I had questions listed on my site!! (Now offline ) What gets me though, is that I did what anyone could do...research on the internet. All of the questions I had were public knowledge, and listed on easily found websites, won't say which ones though...Guess that'll teach me for trying to help others...wait minute...isn't that a big part of LE....Hmmmmm.... ;D J2D

Hello everyone, This is my first post, but I have been following along for a few weeks now. I am glad i stumbled upon this site, I thought I had read every last bit of info on the RCMP recruiting process I could until I finally found this site. I have to say that it has been very encouraging to go back to the beginning of this thread and read along and watch how every one has progressed. People like Ace13,Storm and Jamaf's stories have been very inspirational to read. Here is where I am at - I wrote the RPAT on March 15 (Vancouver) Received results May 13 (Score:4.20) Received application package May 21 (Must be returned between Aug 4 and Sept 6) Things have been going smoothly so far. However, yesterday I was caught by surprise when I went for my eye test and failed to meet the minimum uncorrected requirements. I was upset but I have decided not to give up and I am now scheduled for laser eye surgery next week (Thursday June 26). I am nervous about this and I am curious if anyone out there has had this procedure done or knows much about it. Any info would be great.

Hi Dalex,
Welcome to the board. Congradulations on your excellent RPAT score. I hope you have patience because that's the unofficial motto of RCMP applicants
About the Laser: I was in the same position as you were about a year ago. I was apprehensive about it, especially since I didn't know if I could deal with going blind if the surgery was botched. I tried getting as much info from the 'Net, but it appeared that no one could offer an unbiased opinion. I realized that the only way I could fulfill my dream of being a police officer was to go through with the surgery so...
I booked a consultation at the Bochner Eye Institute in Toronto, and spoke with their "salesperson" (for lack of a better term). She explained to me that the laser that they used actually froze the cells, rather than burning them. Therefore, there was no risk of going blind. 0. None at all. The only problems occur when a patient doesn't go for follow-up care appointments.
I had my surgery done in April 2002. It was the best decision I have ever made. My eyesight is still 20/20, and I have no night-vision problems (knock on wood). The only long term effect they told me was that in approximately 20 years (when I'm in my 40s), I may need perscription reading glasses.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply DaveTO, it is encouraging to hear from someone who has been through it. I know what you are saying about being unable to find unbiased info on the net. Overall, I have heard far more possitive things about it than negative. Even though I am in the begining stages, I have been wanting this for a long time and feel like I have come too far to give up now. What the heck, they are just going to shoot a LASER in my EYE! I know I have seen your posts often but I can't recall what stage you are at. Do you mind giving your timeline again ?

Sure...
November 2002 - Attended Recruiting Session January 2003 - Wrote RPAT April 2 - Received Application April 14 - Passed PARE April 15 - Sent application back to O Div Recruiting June - Was told to expect an interview "Sometime this summer"
Just keep waiting.
For me, I think that best case, I'll be in Depot early 2004...if my background doesnt get held up. Some of my previous employers live in the U.S. now.

Thanks DaveTO, wow you got your application package done and back in a hurry ! Did they give you any restrictions as far as when you could send it back ? I received mine in May and the letter specifically said if I send it back before Aug, I am eliminated. BTW, is O div Ontario ? (Sounds like that would make sense, although BC is E div )

Dalex: Welcome to this forum...as many have already said there is lots of great info here but post questions as you have them because it may not have been asked before. I too stumbled across this site by accident after reading every detachment website I could find and followed along for at least a month before registering and taking part and I am guessing there are others who may be reading along as well...I encourage them to join in...there is strength in numbers and the more we share our experiences, questions, etc..the more all will benefit and reach our goals and dream that much faster. All the best in your pursuits. Mountie2be

Just curious, did anyone write their RPAT in the last few months? I wrote on May 7/03 in the Kootenays (BC) and I think I get to wait another month until I hear anything. Till next post

Hey All,
I am a "K" Div applicant. I've found the advice and support offerred here to be quite helpful. I recently completed my application package and received follow-up correspondence requesting some medical info as I had been treated for joint problems in the last five years. I also received a request to complete a consent to release info. I applied to some other police agencies in the mid nineties and the RCMP would like to contact them. Anyway, my RCMP process has unfolded like so RPAT March 2002 Went overseas with Military and as such couldn't complete application package until May 2003. Completed my pare in early May and now I am at the stage that I mentioned above - working on completing medical docs. I don't have any questions right now, but if I do I'll be sure to post another thread.
Cheers!

YYZ - Look back about 30 pages...Ace13 and some others described what is involved. Basically, the RCMP doctor and dentist probe, xray and test your whole body. Oh yeah, your WHOLE body. (Latex snapping sound...)
