Pesky,
You may at your own expence have laser eye surgery done. But you must wait three months before you can apply or have your eye tested after the surgery to see if is successful. So if you really want this, talk to you eye doc and ask for his/her opinoin.
hope this helps, or best yet, attend an info session and ask the recruiter...
In other news, I was at the recruitment office handing in my file on my finances. Just remortgage my house at a low rate and paid of all credit cards and loans. They are now satisfied and will contact me within the next week for the selection interview. He also gave me the low down on depot....they aren't hiring....lol just kidding. Depot is going nuts. He couldn't even fill his alotment for depot this week. This is the best time to be in the process. We are in the drivers seat as to speak. If you pass the tests, have some good maturity and life experiences and aren't a screw up....past and present, you should do fine...... I also talked to Jeff, who graduated on this past Monday, he said they had two troops a week starting at times....they are so busy trying to put people through. The retirements are hurting them big time, and the bubble hasn't burst yet...so be patient and we will get there. I know I will, I can feel it...ya baby!!
Chat later ;D G

Pesky,
The info above is not quite accurate. Go ahead and apply, write your exam and see how well you do before you get your eye surgery. I highly recommend LASIK surgery from the Gimbel Eye Centre if there is one in your area. I had my surgery over a year ago and no problems. I waited to find out if I had a competitive test score before spending the $2,500 to get my eyes fixed. I sent my initial results in immediately, and again after waiting three months.

Sorry everyone for making this post into an eye care issue. Guest from AB, how did the surgery go? Did you get better eyesight afterwards? Thanks for the support (I'm actually waiting for my RPAT score). Good luck to you all in your pursuit of a wonderful vocation!

Hi Guys,
Congrats to J2D and Tim for their interviews! Just get those competencies and keep eye contact...
I'm in Ontario, which means wait time X 2. I'm still waiting for the interview. My brother is moving next week, so I'll use that as an excuse to call them up and try to get some info on how the interviews are going.
Pesky LPO, Guest from AB is correct, wait until you find out that your RPAT score is competitive before going for surgery (unless you got a few thousand bucks lying around).
I had my eye surgery done at the Bochner Institute a little over a year ago, and I think it was the best decision that I ever made. I had no side effects and my vision is still 20/20. If you can afford it, I'd recommend them to you.

Pesky,
My eye surgery couldn't have gone better. I am an A/Cst. so it was very important for me to keep my already pretty good night vision; which continued to be excellent after the surgery. My vision is still 20:15 after nearly a year. The only side-effect I have noticed is sensitivity to sunlight; however, it is not that much of a concern. Make sure to take enough time off work to let your eyes heal after the surgery, and take good care of your eyes afterwards - wear sunglasses when it is bright outside. I am very happy with the surgery; and no, I am not on the Gimbel Eye Centre payroll. Good Luck!!

I just remeber them saying you had to wait about three months after the surgery to send in the results....my eyesight is fine so I didn't pay too much attention to that part, just trying to help out eh. but waiting to see if your rpat score is competitive is probably the best advice. thanks for clearing that up Guest from AB..since you had it done, you should know what the best route is.... Dave To , I would call recruiting just to see how things are coming along. The RCMP members here told me to call recruiting whenever you want, they said that's what their there for and they don't mind. I wouldn't make a habbit of it and call everyday or nothing like that but every couple of weeks should be fine. CDNCOP2BE what great news about depot putting through 2 troops a week at some times trying to get enough new Mounties. I guess we may be in the drivers seat Sure hope that everyone on this site makes it to depot, wouldn't that be awesome. Tim " Walk by Faith "

Hey guys, i'm in Troop 6 here at Depot, and I can tell you first hand that it's booming here!!! Troops are coming in every week, but don't get the wrong idea, the training is tough, but if your dedicated than you'll pass with flying colors. By the way, I was recruited from Ottawa, Ontario.

I spoke with a friend of mine who is a member in E division. One of the civilian employees in her office recently got hired and is on her way to Depot soon. In speaking with my friend, she said that the RCMP are having a tough time even filling the classes going to Depot as there is such a high demand for people right now. Now, I am aware of the recruiting process rumor mill and with that in mind I always take whatever I hear with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, if there is even a grain of truth to this it gives me great reason to be all the more pumped about going through the RCMP process right now. Also, Josephdepot posted an encouraging thread about being at Depot currenlty and Depot booming with activity. YEAH!

From what I understand, if they have problems filling their allotments, it has nothing to do with qualified applicants, it doesn't put us any further ahead or in the "driver's seat". There is just as many applicants just not enough members to do the background searches and interviewing. Believe me, they aren't desperate for applicants, they just don't have the manpower to proceed with a lot of the files in a timely fashion, especially now with summer and people taking vacations.

From my experience through the application process, it showed me that on one hand they don't have enough man power to process cadets, however at the same time there just isn't enough applicants done their process to be sent, so they go hand in hand. There's always delays, whether it be by the RCMP staff, or because someones background takes long or that they ran into problems with their medical.

I think there is a combination of three factors why the RCMP are having trouble filling there allotments for depot.....Staff shortages in recruiting, not enough qualified applicants and the sheer volume of applications received. I'm sure it takes a lot of man power to process a applicant to the BI stage only to find something that disqualifies the applicant. Its things like this that really put recruiting behind. I wouldn't say that we are in the drivers seat but its safe to say that this is a good time to be in the process. Recruiting is doing their best to get the applicants through the process and get them to Depot. I'm currently in the middle of getting my medical package together. From speaking with the the dentist and audiologist I got the feeling they recently had 10-15 applicants go through their clinics, with more scheduled. Hang in there folks, our time will come.

I agree with therecruit, our time will come, and this is an oportune time to be in the process...without sitting in a recruiters shoes it is difficult to judge the work involved to process an applicant. Patience and perservance. Hey, how about some mountie humor? "A mountie pulls over an older couple after noticing the gentleman was not wearing a seatbelt. Well of course by the time he gets to the window the belt is on so he begins to argue with the driver the fact that it was not on before he stopped him. Well this went on for a minute or two before the mountie finally leans over and says to the gentleman's wife "Maam, was your husband wearing his seatbelt?" The woman replies, "Officer, I learned along time ago not to argue with him when he is drinkin."
Gotta love it... Have a good weekend everyone. Mountie2be

I have trouble believing the RCMP is desperate for applicants, and is having trouble filling depot spots. I completed the process in its entirety last November and have yet to be called to depot. It has been18 months since I wrote the RPAT. I hear there are lots of applicants at the same stage as myself. I do not recommend people making regular calls to staffing. The last time I spoke to them they told me that "no news was very good news, and I am just going to have to wait."
