Hey Congrats onedaysoon,
relax and go abck thru this site. review everything that other people usd for succesful interviews. The main thing is to remain relaxed and focused. They don't want to see someone who is a ball of nerves, whether you feel it or not. wear a dark suit, hides the nercous sweat stians! ;D Seriously, go thru the guide on the website and go identify areas of your life you can relate to the conpetencies they want to see.
Keep us posted and good luck!

I handed it in at the end of March then had to resubmit some stuff and that took about three weeks. I got the call another three weeks after that.

I feel for you guest from AB. I too went through the whole process. Everything. Just waiting for the phone call. I even was told by my recruiting contact to get ready and expect to go at any moment. I stupidly took that to mean I am on my way. You are NOT on your way until you get the official phone call. I sold my truck, cashed in RRSP's getting my money together for the 6 months training, told family and friends (girlfriend) I am going, told work to start culling me out as I am on my way. Then BAM the letter saying thanks please apply again in two years. I have to concur with guest from AB, don't make any major decisions or life changes until you are actually through your pass out cerimony. Read Jamafs webpage. 4 troop mates are gone. Nothing is for certain until you get that badge and are told to officially quit your job. I am sure I would not be saying this had I been accepted but watch out. The RCMP loves to screw with peoples lives. They expect you to put your life on hold and their process is unbelieveably long and drawn out. Go on with your normal lives until you get the call, take a leave of absence from your current job (if you can), don't sell or cash in anything unless you need the money to survive while you train for 6 months (without pay, what a joke), once you pass and receive thta badge then proceed with the selling, etc.

Sporto, I have to disagree with one of your comments, I seriously don't think the RCMP "love to screw with peoples lives". However, I'm by no means saying the process is without flaws. I think it's important to mention that in your case they may have received word from another agency that you had falsified information on the polygraph taken at that agency. I'm not saying you lied or anything, I don't know your case, I am just familiar with your post from Sept 02 where you said you believed you had been screwed by a previous poly. I think that's important to mention, I don't want others to think that the same thing can happen to them for no reason, in your case they may have had a reason to defer, in which case they are more than o.k. to do that.

Maybe it's just me, but that seems like common sense... I've never put my life on hold for anything, job or otherwise, and I don't intend to...That really sucks that, that happened, but its not the norm. MOST people who get to that stage do go to depot. You are upset, and I understand why, but try not to discourage others in the process.... As for the "unpaid training (what a joke)" talk to Pete Broccolo on the blue line forum www.blueline.ca/forum/ for more info...I'm trying to find a thread there regarding this...

I can tell all of you that it took me from writing the RPAT to graduating from DEPOT exactly 24 months and that is pretty standard. Some get in quicker , some wait longer but that is standard.

I guess it really depends on what province you are in from everything that I've read on this site. A friend of mine got accepted to depot (but turned it down for CPS) and he wasn't in the process more than 12 months from RPAT to getting accepted. Unfortunately lots of us are from AB where they are 4 to 5 months behind on background investigations. I have also learned that the process is different in each province. Some seem to give the medical/dental package after a successful interview, others do the background first then the medical/dental/psych last. Some places do the suitability and security interviews in one day (my case) whereas some are scheduled weeks apart.

sporto, I guess if anything this was a good learnig experience for you...Never take anything for granted!
As for the RCMP expecting people to put their lives on hold during the process I must say its just the opposite, at least it is in my case. I was specifically directed my my recruiter not to put my life on hold and to continue on as I normally would and that if and when I was accepted they would let me know.
If you are really serious about becoming a police officer you should try to get over your bitterness and re-apply when you are able. Try to find out what went wrong and learn from it. If its meant to be it will happen!

Don't get me wrong, I am not on a bitter induced crusade. Maverick you are right too, I re-read my post after I sent it and the portion about the "rcmp loving to screw with peoples lives" was for lack of a better word I guess. I was a little nieve and let the process get the better of me. I am just trying to offer suggestions to others so they don't make the same mistake I did. Stay grounded and stay the course during your application. Don't make the mistake I did and assume you are getting accepted because you finished the whole process and are just awaiting the call. I would also offer to you people applying to try and keep your application to just the rcmp for now. Applying to a bunch of other forces at the same time is in my opinion a mistake. I knew a friend who was applying to Calgary and the rcmp at the same time. The issue came up during his rcmp interview and the interviewer became almost enraged and yelled at him to let the rcmp know which force he really wanted and to stop wasting the rcmp's time. Needless to say he now works for the CPS. Isolated incident I am sure but if you are applying to various forces and are thinking it will encourage them to possibly rush your application and compete for you it may backfire?! Food for thought.

Dont let it get you down. I am a member of the RCMP. Dont be fooled , the RCMP have many flaws. Some municpial forces are much better to work for. It just depends whether or not you need to wear the SERGE. The novelty wears off rather quickly and in the end you still get up and deal with scumbags on a day to day basis. What differecne does it make if you are getting a pay cheque.

I went to a recruiting information meeting today with some friends, and found out some information:
- The cut-off for White Male in Ontario to get a package for the bloc ending April 1 was 3.96.
- Ontario has 80 spots allocated per block, of which, some are earmarked for cadets to return to Ontario after Depot
- The GTA recruiter is still working on the previous block, so no interviews will be scheduled for the new block until mid-June at the earliest.
- Polygraph testing will be implemented starting with the October 2003 block. Those people who undergo polygraph testing will not need to have a security interview.
There was good news and bad news, but basically that means that the polygraph got shelved at least for another 6 months.

Don't you love the hypocracy of these police forces. "We are equal opportunity employers" . Oh ya if you are male you need a higher mark to pass! Please fill out this declaration of race and sex.
It will be nice when the day comes that applicants will be just a number to the interviewers and recruiters. You will be scored based on your performance and answers. The best person for the job will be hired based soley on merit. Gotta love this "affirmative action" , I mean "reverse discrimination" or shall I say plain and simple "discrimination".
