Hmm, cleared up some stuff for me too... I finally got my letter saying that yes I will be getting an interview today, but I already knew that from talking to my recruiter. He told the same as what was said in an earlier post...Alberta is extremely swampped right now. So much that they are calling ex-members (retired) to conduct the interviews?!? On the plus side I was told that I'm number 30 on the list right now, and I should have my interview within a month, MAYBE less (not counting on it though ;D ). So wait and see...there's a reason I titled my web site "The Long Journey to Depot" ;D Jay

j2d, Just to let you know, a retired inspector conducted my interview. Don't worry the time will fly by. Be positive, think of all that extra "life experience" you will gain while waiting for your interview. HAHA! I agree RJB the RCMP's motto should be hurry up and wait! But you know what they say "good things come to those who wait"

Hey,
Just going through all the posts on waiting and the bloc process. I know it is hard to sit on your hand s and wait. I did it for two years. The process now seems to have gotten faster. There are still a lot of applicant variables, your location , some provinces process higher numbers than others because they knpow they will get calls to fill other provinces slots. This is common in Newfoundland. Number of people who write for the upcoming bolc, mber of people can effect the cutoff mark. If you get a 1000 people writing for a bloc and 75% score in the 3.9-4.1 range expect the cutoff mark to be pretty high, this again effects where you will land in the interview callback process. When you get an interview can also depend on when you write, if you write in June you have no problem being in the pool for OCt. If you write Sept 30, forget it. This again depends on Division. Newfoundland process the exams off to Ottawa fairly fast. other provinces wait till they get a pile to send.
The time between writing and interview can vary a great deal location to location.
Just remember that once you are in the process you are looking at a one year wait atleast. Background process adds time depending on how many places you lived and if your background is pretty well laid out for them.
My advice is same as everyone elses , don't put your life on hold. KJeep going about your business, but keep dreaming and hoping. I think part of the reason the process is a s long as it is is because they want the people who really really want to be mounties, and if you are willing to wait that long to get in, then you deserve it.
I am biased I know, but I don't know of any friend s on city forces who get asked to have a picture taken by a tourist or who don't have to explain the agency they work for. We are synonymous with Canada. There are not a lot of forces that give you the opportunity to be a street cop in a big city, small city or the middle of nowhere, that give you the opportunity to be a gebral duty constable, community based police officer, traffic section, homicide or international organized crime. You can go from working the streets to chasing big time gang members with the RCMP. That is one of the most attractive options, you can always find an area you like.
Hope all you guys waiting for interveiws are successful, those who are entering the process be patient. This is the greatest job in the world and it is worth any wait.
Storm

I had my interview on Thursday. Unfortunately I was unsucessful. My best advice to those going into the interview process is to have some mock interviews with friends, friends who can keep the mood serious. And start preparing NOW. When they start throwing those questions at you I found because of nerves and such my brain was not working at it's peak . Good luck to all the rest of you in the process. Your posts are alway interesting and informative. Maybe see you all in 2 years .

waitingagain, Don't let it get you down to much and don't let it hold you back from trying with a municipal department. That is unless your heart is set on the RCMP. I've heard that municipal interviews are generally easier than the RCMP. I know quite a few people who have done the RCMP interview as well as for departments such as Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg and they all have said the RCMP was much harder! Good luck and stay positive!

waitingagain, look at it this way...if you were to get hired on with another dept you could easily re-apply with the RCMP as I hear they are currently recruiting experienced officers from other police depts. Keep your options open, you may want to consider Calgary, they will be putting throuh quite a few classes over the next few years. A friend of mine applied to Calgary from Halifax and was hired, so it goes to show they are taking people from all across Canada.

Hey waitingagain,
When I was unsuccessful at my interview a couple years ago I was quite taken back, however, now that you know the format and what is asked of you, next time will breeze by. Look at all the questions that were asked, even the ones you felt you answered well on, and over the next two years find ways to gain experience in each area. This could be through a course, a book, volunteering in a organization that would expose you to the areas you have little experience in. I did this, using the two years as a growing experience and when I applied again I flew through the interview and passed. Just my perspective, unless you want to do the muni police dept. thing....I decided not to because a Mountie is what I want and that is what I'm gonna get......anyways, I couldn't see myself stuck in the same city for 30 years.
On another note, I haven't heard a thing about my appplication since finishing my interviews in March. I guess I'll give them till the end of May before I start my phone campaign ;D
