Hi Everyone ;D I thought I would update. I got a call last week from RCMP, they said they opened my package and went through it. Everything is in order and looks good. She said it will be handed over for arranging interviews. So hopefully the next call for the interview won't take too long. In other news, I am almost finished the Reserve Constable course. We will graduate on Feb 25,03. Last week we were Tazered, peppered sprayed, and had the fight in the room with three men in padded suits....thats was after a 45 min run, that included pushups every K. its been interesting and I have learned a tremendous amount. We had our last test on powers of arrest, search and siezure. This month will be driving the cop cars, high risk take downs, and senerios where we will have to go to court over. A judge and some lawyers are donating their time on the weekend. Half the department are lining up to role play in the senerios. There will be a domestic dispute, assualt, impaired driving, and a couple of others that I can't recall at this moment...lol So I have been busy to say the least. So in Feb we will be sworn in as Reserve Constables... Should be great experience for getting into the rcmp, espically at the interview stage. anyway, thats about it for now. Got to get ready for work, night shift duty now... Chat later Glenn

Hey Glenn - That's pretty intense training you've described! Sounds excellent. By the way, for what force will you be a Res. Cst for?

Dave, In response to your question about the physical stuff at Depot - in talking to Jeff (so far) it seems to me that pushups, pushups, and afew more pushups seem to be the order of the day in drill class. And not wimpy ones...touch your nose to the floor ones! They were told to expect to do anywhere from 100-150 pushups in their first drill class but got lucky with about 70. Today they only had to do 10 so they are getting better...... Other than that it looks like you are doing as much physical stuff on your own as they do there. As far as running goes, Jeff is running about 3 miles 3x a week. If he ever gets a free moment, I'm sure he can fill you in abit better. Hope this helps.

Hey Daveman, Mrs J is right, nose to the floor push-ups is the only way. I am in week 14 and the grind continues. The pyhiscal stuff is not to bad if you are in pretty good shape to begin with. Between stress and activity it is hard not to stay in shpe. You march everywhere, you learn defensive tactics and have regular fitness classes. You are required to do cardio and wieghts on your own time. But, from what you said in your post you should not have to much trouble, just keep running and running and running! Storm

I am a future applicant and was wondering if the RCMP is biased towards younger applicant towards the ages 19 to 21, any info would be appreciated.

In response to Dark Helmet, here's my opinion:
In the 1950-70's era, if you were young (19-21), and BIG in stature, you were a fine RCMP applicant. They could then send you almost anywhere, normally a relatively small and isolated posting, and be confident that you could take care of yourself. A fair chunk of policing those days was flexing muscle, intimidation, and 'taking care of business' so to speak.
Those days are gone. Policing nowadays requires officers that are not only brighter, but mature, cool-headed, and have a demonstrated past of reponsible decision making, common sense and achievements.
It's awful tough for 19-21 yr olds to demonstrate these requirements at their age. They can definitely be responsible, mature, and on the right pathway, but they will lack the real-life experiences, and opportunities in their past to demonstrate their good decision making abilities.
The folks at Depot now can tell you that the avg age of the present classes is in the 30-31 range for males, and 27-28 yrs old for females. Does this mean the RCMP are biased against younger people? Probably-yes. But is this a bad bias given what I've stated above? I don't think so.
Relax Dark Helmet - you've got a lot of years in front of you. Go to university, expand your mind. Travel the world a bit, expand your horizons. Get out into the workforce--get to know the society that you'll someday be policing. You'll be a better cop down the road for it.

Thanks Dave, I will enjoy the last week before Depot. Just make sure the heat is turned up in Regina from Feb onwards please. And you're just a pup at 30 yrs. I applied at 32 and will be 34 in a couple months. I'm sure we'll see you there before too long.
For anyone interested in life as a RCMP Depot recruit, JAMAF is giving a excellent week-by-week update on his own website. Just click on his name to get his profile, and then click on his website link. Great job Jamaf!

HI guys, Sorry it's taken so long to post but my last couple weeks here at depot has bave been busy. I just finished week thirteen and had a PDT test, Firearms benchmark, S/M inspection, presentation and BOLF (be on the look out for) patrol drive. So I've been busy ... although all were successful. Just wanted to touch base with everyone and tell you guys to hang in there, keep the faith and keep striving for your goals! Ace13

Hello all, anyone still out there in the recruiting process, besides Glenn and I? Thanks to all for your updates re: Depot life. Jamaf, I've been keeping up with your web page and it's great. I really look forward to the updates. I found another cadet's website that others may enjoy: www.homestead.com/cathyron/RoyJournal.htmlIt's great to get a sense of what goes on there. I've read a lot, watched different shows and researched on the 'net about RCMP training....I'd say I'm just about as prepared as I could be except to be there! later all, Dave

Hey all,
Long time no post. I have been busy but things have slacked off some and given me time to catch up. I have only 6 weeks of training left and time is clipping by. My troop is wearing high browns today for the first time after spending all weekend preparing them. It is sign that you are moving along, becoming more senior.
Well I need to head off to drill. Some things never change.
All those still hanging in, keep on hanging. If you want it stay committed, stay focused. It takes time, but just look at all the people who keep leaving this board as civilians and ended up here in Depot as cadets.
