It's pretty darn cold!!!! Although I think I'm adjusting. It just hurts when I hear that it's +17 degrees home and -18 to -22 here!!!! Makes running interesting!! Especially on the ice. Ace13

Hay Ace or Storm
Now that you guys are into full on winter, what clothes are you glad you brought or wished you had? Do you recommend bringing a warm winter coat or do they issue you something there? I'm being optimistic and trying to think of things to pack. Although with my luck I will be going in June and will just have to bring shorts ;D

Hello everyone -
I haven't posted much lately since I've had (frustratingly) nothing new to report. Until today--I've been contacted to go in for my final PARE to 'tidy up my file'. Might just get the nod before Christmas yet--at least that's my goal. Would be a nice Christmas present as well.

NICE shooting there Storm! To back up what you stated about upcoming troops, D-Div recruiting indicated to me today also that it looks like a troop/week continuing through Jan and Feb 03. Longtimers--keep your fingers crossed.

Well I'm almost there. I called the recruiting office this morning and was told that my back ground investigation was done and everything is back. She said that my file was "downstairs" for review. I was told that the last troop for the year leaves on the 30th of November and that there was a good chance that I would be in it. She said that I should expect a call from her next Wednesday or Thrusday. She apologized for the short notice but she said "that's how we work around here." So I have my fingers and toes crossed and will have a phone welded to my person all of next week. OOOOO SOOOO CLOSE ;D ;D ;D

Sounds awesome Jamaf! You have to get in touch with Ace and I when you get here. you will most likely be in troop 25 if you get a call next week. After all these posts it would be cool to meet the person behind the computer. Thanx for the comps on shooting, I had to get coaching in order to get better, that is one good thing about here. If you don't reach a benchmark they want to figure out why and work with you to acheive it. That happened to me. I was borderline going in, but after assistance from firearms I hit my benchmark with my personal best and actually maintained it next time out at the range. We completed advanced driving today, needless to say, running a crown vic around a closed track is a lot of fun!
Storm Hang in there guys!

Thanks for the info Storm I look forward to meeting you guys. How have you found the "theory" part of Depot training? Do you get much classroom time? What kind of "homework" do you get? What would you say is the most challenging part of Depot?

Well crap.... If its not one thing in this process its another. Apparently there was a problem with my background again. I lived in Lloydminster for a few years and its smack dab on the boarder of Alberta and Saskatchewan. They "forgot" to do a residence check on my place in Sask. I found this out today yet the other day they told me I was all done. Well guys it looks like I am stuck here for another month and a half. The recruiter did say that they were going to try and fill the January troops in the next couple of weeks. And my file should be done really soon. She said that they hoped to let every one know before Christmas. A months notice would be much better that this last minute stuff. I sooooo want to get this show on the road but at least I save the $1000 plane ticket home.

sorry to hear about that Jamaf. In reply to your other post, the most challenging stuff for me is Applied Police Sciences. That is all the book work and study material. THe defensive, driving and firearms I find ok, I even do pretty good on times. I find the book learning a little rough. The pace here is pretty hectic and trying to keep up on it all sometimes is well, challenging. However, there are times when it is very rewarding as well. However everyone is different and has different strengths.
Good luck.

Ohhhh Yaaaa! An early Christmas present.
Got the nod today. Troop # 29 starting on Feb 1/03. Perfect! Reason for the Feb date is I require a fair amount of time to release from the Canadian Forces. Doesn't happen overnight like a civie job.
Ace, Storm, and others --- looking fwd to meeting you. And to you Jamaf...well I'm convinced you'll be at Depot before me, just take it easy on this 'new troop' when I get there. Cheers.
Note: To all still waiting -- took me 18 months. Hang in there.

Hi marcusinmb Congratulations on the news. Finally, after all the wait... I check in on this site every once in a while, as I'm more of a Calgary police wanna-be, but still like to see how you RCMP guys are dong. A guy I worked with started depot this past Monday. We couldn't wipe the grin off his face when he got the call. My file is in the background stage right now for Calgary, so I'm hoping for a nice christmas present too. Are you with the army or air force here in MB? Good luck with the release, and hopefully you don't get too much flak (I'm in the army, so I know where you're coming from...). Drop me a line if you want to chat. dave

hi guys, Sorry I haven't been online lately. Week 6 is busy here at depot. Although I have pepperspray, firearms benchmark and skills track (driving) test next week. I'm anxious to meet you guys. I met Fred last week, it's nice to put faces to names. I passed my first PDT test today. That's police defence tactics. The hardest part of depot is the lack of sleep! I'm up every morning at 0530 and don't get to bed until after 2300hrs. But it's only 22 weeks! Actually only 16 now for me! Anyway, keep in touch and be sure to let me know if you are coming up or send me a private message and then you can look me up when you get here. Take Care Ace13
