Nope, I have no courses relating to police/security. I have a degree from the university but it has nothing to do with police/security. There's alot of people on this site that are at depot now. Ace13

Hay cop24sb I found that the book "Barron's Police officer exam" was very helpful as well as I did the practice exams on the nypd webpage.

cop24sb Well all the info is here. I studied the same book as Jamaf. Also I did the GED book. After that, well, you just have to do it. Their web page gives you a good outlook on what to expect. There really isn't any one book to study. A little bit of this and that, and some good ole common sense. My first time I wrote with Jamaf and scored a 3.5 While Jamaf moves on, I had to wait to rewrite. It sucked, but this time I scored 4.29. It was a different test, just as hard. But I had experience at it. Just do your best, thats all you can do. Keep your fingers crossed. By the way Jamaf, I wish you the best, hope you make it. I am flying to Edmonton tomorrow to do their physical. I am a little nervous. Sore from the weekend training with the reserves. A 3k run followed by a couple of hours of take downs. I can't count the number of times I hit the mat with my arm and wrist in abnormal postions. But I did get to do the same back..lol Chat later Glenn

Glenn Hope you're not too sore after all that. Thanks for the encouragement.
Good luck in Edmonton. Hey if your at the west edmonton mall you should check out the gun range. You can "rent" a 9mm and fire off a few rounds.

Hey Ace, Jamaf, others: Read on another on-line forum a post from a current Depot cadet who waited 23 months to get there. And he said that was about average in the Troop he was in.
Makes me feel a little better, still would rather not wait that long though, I'm at 17 months now since RPAT.
On another note, and maybe Storm (I sent you a PM) or others at Depot can enlighten me, but I'm curious about the duties, responsibilities of the "Right Marker" position in each Troop? Specifically, how is he/she chosen, and how much extra work is involved? All I know for sure is that he/she marches the Troop around and makes sure they meet their class timings. Anyone know more, fill me in if you would. Thanks.

That is very true Marcusinmb, it's just really hard when you are so anxious to go and train. Although I have nothing to complain about, I have only been in this process 6 months and all I am waiting on now is the conclusion of my background check. I think with regards to the Right Marker question, that you volunteer for the position and if there is more than one person interested, then the troop votes the right marker. The right marker from what I know, do have alot of responsibility with regards to leading their troop around etc. I also think that there are other positions in the troop that help the right marker. I guess somebody that is already at depot might be able to better answer your question. What stage are you at now? Ace13

Thanks Ace13 - someone at Depot will probably fill me in with more info.
As far as I can figure, I've completed every stage. I try not to bother the Recruiting staff too much with questions but I do know some med docs were VERY slow to trickle in to the HQ. I think they're all there now, and my whole file is likely being given the final 'assessment.' My BI took forever to get started however was completed in 4 days (back in July). I know I'd have to run another PARE eventually and may have to go in for a final medical. Is that how it works before you get pumped off to Regina?

marcusinmb: I did my medical in a week, (bloodwork, psychological, dental, etc) including the final medical (getting checked over by the RCMP doc). But it took about a week to 10 days for all my results to come back. My background check isn't finished yet, but I think they want to have me ready for when it finishes. As well, If I go to depot before Christmas, I won't have to run the final PARE because it didn't expire yet. I only ran my first one in June and expires after 6 months. I think that here in NF, recruiting has slowed for people trying to finish their medicals because the doctors are on strike here! So that sucks for the recruits! Did you do your online courses and typing test? I'd say you'll be getting your call soon, hopefully! Take Care Ace13

hey guys,
just curious about the hypothetical questions. T.COTE said he got screwed when he answered honestly, instead os saying what they would want him to say. for those through the process, and comments suggestions? i know i will be asked situational questions and i'm not sure what i would say. for example, if you pulled over the chief and he was under the influence i would do what i had to to make sure he was off the road....even if that meant arresting him. as an officer you must remain impartial. what do others think?
what if, like T.COTE mentioned, you saw the chief getting gas from the yard, what would you do?....this is a little tricky.
how did people find themselves answering questions during their interviews?

I just finished my typing test. I got an average of 67 words per minute, so I was pleased with that. That's just one more thing that is done!!! Hopefully, my background check won't take too long and I'll be off to depot before Christmas! Take Care Ace13

My typing test was my score minus 1 word for every error. So for example, one test I had 79 wpm but with 11 errors, so it was only a 68 net. And my score was averaged from three different tests. Ace13

wow, When I took my test I was not allowed any errors. I also took 3 typing tests but had errors on 2 of them so they didn't count at all. I had to go REALLY slow to get a test with no errors. Intersting how things are different from region to region.
