I found the vocabulary very difficult. I mean, I'm fairly educated and very good at spelling and grammar, but some of those words I've never ever seen before. A lot of people who wrote said the same thing. So that part was pure guessing. Like you said, I found the logic and memory sections pretty easy. Now I know that you are supposed to score well at every stage of the application process, but I overheard an applicant say that as long as you pass each stage it all comes down to how well you scored on the RPAT. That to me doesn't sound right and I don't know where he got that idea as I didn't talk to him. Anyone else heard something similar? Well, good luck to you Ace13 and let us know when you get your results.
Dave

I'm still waiting for the call to say that they have opened my package and to set up an interview... Has any one been through the interview? any suggestions? It seems sooo long since I wrote the rpat (June) and its coming up on a year since I started this whole process. I don't want to fail this last part after a year of putting my life on hold....

What I heard about the interview . . . is that they stick to the guide that's listed on the RCMP website. So make sure you review that. As well, know your current events. That's all I heard about it. Good luck!

Thanks Ace... I have read through that. as wells as a couple of books that they recomend on the website. "Sweaty Palms: The Neglected Art of Being Interviewed" is a good one.. Im sure I will do fine, but the longer I wait the more I have a chance to doubt myself

Good luck with the interview! As well, from what I heard from one of my friends who is an RCMP officer, her interview was pretty relaxed, they want you to feel comfortable so they can really get to know who you are! Keep us posted on how it goes or whenever you hear anything!

;D RCMP! RCMP!RCMP! Relax, folks the RCMP appears to really be the high speed place to be ,so expect heavy competition and the wait.As one young officer(correction, TROOPER) said, it took him 14 months, which even here in the U.S. is about reasonable as the process could take up to 18 months to get hired(min. is about 8 months and that was really fast). How is Canada financially, province to province? This could be an issue toward hiring, also what about the populace?growing? diminishing or moving from one province to another? Are the Local PDs handling most of the crime?I don't know how Canadian law enforcement works, but here in the U.S. agencies can be very territorial(as in the "we'll take care of our own backyard" mentality) and State ,county, local agencies don't always work together. If the muncipal agencies have equal opportunity or benefits, please apply- narrowing your opportunity in the law enforcement field can be very ineffectual in terms of getting hired.GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL ;D

Thanks for your advice cpl_mike. The only problem that I have with applying to other police forces is that I am in Newfoundland. There is only one other police force here and they require that you already have the training before applying, and as well, they are not hiring right now. So if I want to apply to other forces, I have to fly to and from the area (which gets costly flying from the island) for various testing etc. I do plan to fly to Ontario and do the Applicant Testing Service for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police perhaps this summer. The Applican Testing Service will complete a pre-interview screening process consisting of the GATB, WCT, and Prep. If I pass that, I will have the opportunity to apply to many forces in Ontario. I have my heart set on RCMP because it is an excellent police force to work with! I am researching other province police forces as well, for example, Calgary will be completing another cross-country recruitment drive at some point this year (unfortunately, it does not come to Newfoundland), but Halifax is closer than Alberta!). I know it will take a long time to go through the process with the RCMP . . . it fluctuates depending on how many people they send to depot each year. I am prepared to wait, but it always helps to talk to other people who can associate with your feelings of anxiousness, excitement, frustration etc. As one of my friends (Constable) said "It is worth the wait!" Once again, thanks and good luck to all! Ace13

Hey ace.. What are the odds of you being posted back home? Is that what you are hoping for? I hear the greatest demand is for out west. Good for me since i'm here but not so good for you if you don't want to live in BC or Alberta.

Actually, Jamaf, I would rather be posted out west (B.C preferably, or Alberta). I want a change for a while. I love Newfoundland, but I think that it would be a good experience to live out there for a few years. I also want to see more of the country. I've only lived in Toronto, Brampton and Newfoundland, so being sent out west would be ideal! Although there has been a few people getting posted back here lately. I wouldn't be upset if I did get posted back here because the cost of living is so much cheaper here. Anyway, I'll take whatever they give me! If I get that chance that is!!!!!

I decided to go the extra mile . . . .I filled out an online application for PEEL Regional Police today. And I am planning a trip to Ontario this summer to do the Applicant Testing Service that allows you to apply to most police agencies in Ontario. I figure, hey, if I don't apply now, and nothing works out with RCMP, then I will have to wait even longer to obtain my career goals! If anyone has any information on PEEL or other agencies in Ontario, feel free to fill me in! Ace13

Hay good for you Ace. I know a few people who have done that. Im lucky out here in Victoia I have the Victoia city police, and the saanich police, right in my own backyard. If I want to jump to the main land Ive got a choice of the vancouver city police the delta police or the Abbotsford police. But my goal is for the RCMP if I get shot down at some point I will try other roads. But for now I'm sticking to my goal ;D One of the applicants I know has applied to Victoria and saanich just in case he gets to depot and then gets posted in northern canada somewhere. here are the local links www.cspolice.com/www.victoriapolice.orgwww.abbotsfordpolice.orgwww.police.delta.bc.ca

Thanks for the links. My heart and soul is with the RCMP as well . . . I guess I'm just nervous that things won't happen with them. But I'll keep you posted on what happens. Hopefully I should get my RPAT results soon!!!
