Glenn, that's an excellent mark. I would say that you will definitely make October selection for sure. I never did get my RPAT mark, but the recruiter told me that when I go for my interview, she'll copy off my marks and at least show me what I scored and hopefully, at some time, I'll get a more legitimate document. How has the exam changed? In questions or in format? Take Care Ace13

Hi Ace, Hopeful Thanks alot eh! The test was different than last years. I heard that they use up to six tests. It was the same format as last years, just different questions. I was having doubts about my results. Thought I would get about the same as last years, or worse. I was shocked when I opened the letter. All most pooped myself....LOL sure made my day. I tell ya what. I feel the excitment again. I was getting a little down. Now I am going on a ride a long this Friday night with one of the Constables that I have gotten to know. I even have an interview with Calgary Police on Aug 6. I am a little nervous, but excited about going. I will let you know how things go with the interview and the ride along if anything happens. This will be my thrid time with the rcmp. Had one with Calgary back in January. That one was the best one. B&E, stolen car chase, chopper in the air, K-9 unit, the works that night..wow..It was pretty cool. Anyhow chat later, take care Glenn

Well good luck in Calgary on the 6th of Aug. I'm sure you'll do fine, you have lots of life experience to draw from for your interview. Ride-alongs are amazing. Like I said a few posts ago, I went out with the RNC here, it was what I thouht a pretty exciting night, but the constable said it was kind of slow. Makes you realize what they encounter on a nightly basis. I called the RCMP to see if I could get out with a ride-along with them. The only problem is that I'll have to drive a couple hours away because they don't patrol the city that I live in, just the outskirts. So I don't imagine it to be as busy in the rural areas, although I could be mistaken. Well keep in touch. Ace13

I just heard of a recruit being called to start depot on August 19. I don't know what province he was from. Sounds like the rumor of 5 classes in August was right on the money! Has anyone else heard of people being called for classes in August yet?
Great score by the way Glenn! You will definitely make the cut with 4.29.

Well I just received my rpat score today. Not too good (pretty crappy actually). 3.72 so I guess it will have to be Municipal police for me. I made the interview last year, with an rpat score of 3.96, but.. I guess having to work a year of only graveyard shifts took it's toll. The ironic part, was the fact that I was deferred last year due to a credit card almost going to collections eight months before the interview. Well in order to clean that up I ended up taking this job to pay the bills. I should be going to day shift in the next month. I think I'll wait a month to get my internal clock back on track before trying for Vancouver police. Damn I had my heart set on RCMP too. I didn't even apply for Muncipal police. Well good luck to all the other candidates.

The "weekly in August thing" is not a rumour Glenn. I got it from a friend who is actually there right now.
Epoxy: As far as I've heard 3.72 should be enough to get in. If I recall correctly you should see an application package within a week or two. Start running.

Epoxy7: Well, my friend scored a 4.11 on the RPAT and didn't make the selection, but that's here in Newfoundland. But hopefully, you'll make the cutoff in BC. I wouldn't give up applying to the RCMP because of your RPAT score if you don't get selected. Just try again next year. I think it's a good idea to apply to the municipal force too, but don't give up your dreams because of a mark. Take care and good luck. Ace13

Thanks ACE. The problem at this point is the time involved. When you add it all up, it's not good. when I graduated from university, I had to wait 3 months for the information meeting, then another month to write, month and a half for the results. Another month for the interview then deferred for one year. I've had to wait a full year working only graveyard shifts, since thats the best paying job I could get right now. Then I go through the whole thing again, and bomb on the rpat (After living like crap to ensure that the credit problem is completely gone). A test that I had little difficulty with before. If I apply for municipal police the process will be much faster, and if I get in then there is no way that I would say no, which means no RCMP. If I don't get in then the RCMP will want to know why. Basically my whole life is stuck in limbo right now. I just talked to a buddy of mine, and he went to the Vancouver info meeting on the same day that I went to mine. He has his interview next week. I'm just getting frustrated with the whole process. Who knows maybe the rpat score cut off will be 3.7 , I hear they need people and the test was harder this time. So hopefully the scores on average are lower.

Epoxy,
I think that because of the huge glut in applicants from BC your score will make the cut. The cut off score is specific to each province and related to their applicant needs. One note, if you are worried about the time it takes to get through the RCMP application process be warned. Look at some of the past posts in this thread and you will probably see a common denominator. TIME! LOL I would venture to say the average appliation time for people applying with the RCMP is about 18 months. I have personally been in the process since Feb 2001 when I wrote the RPAT. I still am waiting for my psyc results from Ottawa.
One other thing to consider, if you are actively applying at other forces while applying with the RCMP be careful. My friend who was applying with the RCMP and Calgary silmultaneously was rudely told by the RCMP recruiter that if he was concidering keeping his application going with Calgary to "stop wasting the RCMPs time". In your RCMP application they will ask if you have applied to any other police forces. And you are right, if you don't make it with the other forces the RCMP will want to know why. The municipal force you did not make it into might not tell you the real reason for your deferal yet they will tell the RCMP investigator when they call to inquire.
Just some food for thought. I would personally hang on and wait for word from the RCMP. If you still wanted to apply to Van at the same time I would wait until after you received the application package from the RCMP then you can honestly say you have no other applications going at that time. No where on the application package does it say you have to tell the RCMP if you make application to other forces during your application process with the RCMP. I personally don't feel it is any of their (RCMP) concern if you are applying to different forces at the same time but I am sure they feel different.
Anyone else feel the same or different here?

PS Epoxy, stay with your current job if you can. The RCMP (or any force for that matter) will want to see job stability on your part. If you move jobs because you didn't like the hours or shift work you are toast. The hours an RCMP works are shift work and you saying that would probably not bode well with the interviewer.

Just a little note, I will be in the RCMP process now for 2 years in August! But on a happier side, RCMP have contacted my current employer, some neighbours and a reference as of today. With regards to applying to different forces, I believe in keeping your options open. If you were to apply for a job, would you put all your eggs in one basket? I did with the RCMP, and my basket got kicked over last February when they dropped me from the list because of lack of positions and the time frame on my interview etc. But lucky me, the Easter Bunny must have come along and picked up my eggs and put them back in the basket, because I'm still in the process! lol All I can say is, you really need patience, lots and lots and lots of patience and emotional stability! Thanks Storm. It's great to hear advice from other people in the process. I'm starting to calm down now, and will just wait a month or so to see if my mark made the cutoff. I was pretty discouraged when I got my mark back, especially after having done so well the first time. It's the failure thing that was getting to me. It took me a while to get over the deferral after making it to the interview last year, now this newest hurdle is really testing my patience. Discipline is one of the attributes they are looking for, so I'll stick with it. One thing that struck me as odd, was the extra note with my rpat score, reminding people that a high level of physical fitnese is required for the PARE. It would strike me as ineffecient to include this with test scores that weren't competitive. But then again effeciency doesn't seem to be the RCMP's strong suite (everything in triplicate, sending the tests back to Ottawa to be marked etc). So I'm guessing it doesn't mean anything. With my current job, hell I wish I was working shift work. I've been doing straight graveyard 11pm to 7am for the past year and 2 months. I don't care what anyone says, you never get used to it, unless you like always being tired, not having a social life and having to switch back to a regular day time for you weekends only to start back on nights. New applicants avoid graveyard like the plague!!!

Thanx Epoxy, 2 years has been a long time. I am still trying to keep grounded, it has been a rollercoaster for me. Nothing went wrong on my end, just that there were over estimations of what was needed, therefore they recruited more than needed. This left a bunch of us in a bit of a limbo. Back in February my interview and everything else had expired. I had PARE, interviews and pychology all done. Near the end of June they realised they had filled all the spots for Newfoundland, but, Newfoundland always picks up extra spots from other provinces who are not able to fill their quota. Everyone in the pool here is either pre-interview or interview stage, so they went back to the list and pulled 10 to 12 people who had all of the pre-field stuff ready. Lucky me caught a break! By the way, I found out I got cut by calling the recruiting office here in 'B' Div. They told me that those being cut would get a letter, so I point blank asked if I was one of them, they said yes, so I asked can I make it for the next writing to get back on the list? I went down that afternoon and started the process again, my second writing I came out with a 4.11. Persistence and patience is what it takes. I have been trying to make it into law eforcement for over 4 years now. Each time I get a bit closer. This is the closest I have every come, so I remain grounded, I just don't want to get to excited and once again be let down. I figure when I am actually there walking thru the gates, that is when I am in. I remain optimistic, but grounded.
For all those either starting, in the process or beginning over, stay with it. It is long and takes patience. Besides, police work is all about focus, persistence and patience, so I guess the recruiting process is good practice!
