If anyone has any specifics, please post your info. www.blueline.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1196This decribes where the money goes. And some of it comes from a person who was at Depot and spent more than three thousand.

I have my interview on Wednesday and am feeling a little stressed. I have never been in an interview situation before. Any suggestions from anyone on how to get through the next couple days without loosing my sanity. I have been going over the Guide from the RCMP site but am feeling it isn't enough. Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have heard the expenses are more like 4 to 5k for the time at Depot.
About the interviewing... The RCMP site also recommends some books. Have you read those?

Re: The Interview. Practice, Practice, Practice. Once you are sick of it, practice some more. Videotape a mock interview if you can. Better to be overprepared then to wish you had done more.

You know what. Just have confidenece in yourself, and stop worrying about what you can't control. Just think, that is it the only time when someone else wants to hear all about you. So all you have to do is sell yourself. And if you can't do that, then don't bother.

I came from a small town where everyone knew everyone and if you wanted a job you were given it based on who you knew. So every job I had was just given to me without the interview. Sounds pretty unfair hu. I guess it wasn't a good thing after all. How imature did that question sound? Thanks for the advice your right no sence worring about something you have no control over.

The best advice I got was to just be yourself be confident but not over confident. When your in the interview always keep your hands apart from each other or even talk with your hands. When you keep your hands together people look at it as a sign that you aren't saying everything or your hiding something. When you talk with your hands it expresses that you have nothing to hide. I do the hiring in my job and that is always one of the things I look at. Good luck I'm sure you'll do great!

'Tis the season for interviews. April begins a new fiscal year. My interview is on April 3rd.. I am quite nervous about it. Trying to remember my past experiences and see where this fit with the competencies. My brain hurts...

Interview time for some of you My best advice for you guys would be to study the interview guide that the RCMP site has and have at LEAST 2 examples for each of the 8 qualities. Also what I did was break down the 8 qualities and list questions for each of them. If you do this you should do alright, just be confident and relax Hope you all do alright, stay positive. Tim

Just about the costs of Depot...
I posted on this forum about 20 or so weeks ago, prior to getting here at Depot. This is what I can tell you about what you will pay.
The cheapest: This is me.....about $1500. Now I had to buy a new Criminal Code....that is all the books you have to buy, the library here has the other ones you can use for reference. Some stationary, polishing supplies, start up cleaning stuff, and organizing stuff...about $250. I spend about $30 a week on other stuff, bus fare, subway sandwich, the ocassional Keg dinner.
Now I didn't go home or have anyone come out to see me...this is were most rack up $500 to $2000 extra over the 22 weeks for airfare, hotels, out for meals for the weekend with a loved one.
I iron my own clothing...some cadets dryclean everything.
I don't drink beer to booze....this adds up as the drinkers can tell you.
I eat at the mess most of the time....some like to go out because the mess isn't like grandma's cooking..this can add up to $30 a pop after cab fare, and food purchase.
Some like to buy all the gadgets and gizmos the canteen has to offer....I will wait for my familiy to buy this at grad (hey, they want to!).
As for irons, heat guns for polishing, buffers....not really needed. There are pleanty floating around here, I just borrow with troopmates.
Phone bills....I use email a lot to reduce talking to everyone....and when I do call, you can find phone cards that are as low as 2.5 cents a minute (don't forget to read the fine print that each call will take like .85 cents or so from the card...just make long calls)
Grad will be a few hundred I think....not too sure as of yet...I will soon find out.
So yes...$5000 can be you cost for coming here, or $1500. Just depends on your spending habits.
Good luck to all in the process.....Depot is demanding, but doable...and the experience and end result are out of this world!
Goose

Thanks Goose, I'm glad to hear that spending can be cut down alot. I always thought that $3000-$4000 would be needed at the bare min. I'm not a drinker, never drank for over 10 years now, so that will sure will save me some money ;D ;D Good to hear that you can get books from the library instead of buying them all. Tim

Does anyone know how often new troops start? About how many Cadets would there be at Depot at any given time?
