Hey, Does anyone know if the RCMP has different training requirements for experienced officers or does EVERYONE go to Depot for six months of poverty ? Thanks, D's Wife Even lateral entry (trained officers) spend at least three months at depot. It's not really something you cna get around from what i understand.

Greetings to all RCMP hopefulls! As I am one myself, I thought I'd intro myself and join in the discussions. I'm 31 and I'm writing from Kitchener, Ontario. I wrote the RPAT in April/03 (4.16). I had and passed the two interviews March/04 and now comes the wait. I've no skeletons in my closet, so I'm not concerned about what may be revealed during the background investigation. So, barring any surprises, I'm basically considering myself hired! They told me it might be as long as oct/nov until I get to Depot. I've also heard about a polygraph, but I was told at my interview the process isn't up and running yet, at least not in Ontario. Anyways, I'm thrilled to have gotten this far and I say good luck to all those who are in the same boat as I.

Hello Longarm,
I am also from Ontario; Toronto to be specific. I had my interviews in Kitchener in July/03...and just went for my medical/dental checks. Oct/Nov might be a bit optimistic unless they streamlined things in O Div.
Welcome aboard!

yyz,
That is the perfect attitude to take going into a poly. Tell the plygrapher that and you should have no problem. They are there to help you pass. Just tell the truth. If you have nothing to hide the poly will determine that and you will be on your way. Like you said it is just another step in the process. You have completed the rest so what is one more? Good luck.

For all those in the TO area: There is a law enforcement trade show in Markham on april 17 and 18. As far as I know, civilians are allowed to attend, too. $18 at the door. Check the Blue Line magasine website for more info. Also, I believe the Musical Ride will be in southwestern Ontario in april or may. Definitely something for us to see! That's all for now. Bye!

Tim,
Sorry to hear about your wife's score. With all that waiting I'm sure you were really hoping it was going to pay off with good news. Well, things are more fun when you do them together so hang in there until November.
All the best, D's Wife

Sorry to hear Tim, I am sure you will both nail it next time, now that you both have a general idea of what to expect.
Best of luck to you both next time.

Tim, I think you and your wife will do more than better in Nov. because you know what the test is like and will be able to relax without wondering, 'what's next?' I feel as though I lucked out on my first write and made it through, but when I wrote the new test they are looking at bringing in, I found it a breeze just because I knew what each group of questions were about and how to think each through. As for planning/saving, I started almost a year before I applied and made a vacation plan if everything fell through. That way if you don't succeed, you can look forward to a real nice vacation or whatever else you plan as a reward for the sacrifices you have made along the way. But really, you will have set yourselves up for the time at Depot because you will make it with the positive outlook you have!
Cheer!

I keep hearing that a cadet will spend 2-3 grand at depot! How can you spend that much in just 22 weeks when food, clothing and accommodations are covered? If anyone has any specifics, please post your info. Also, is there "tuition" to be paid for depot?

Lots of "hidden charges"...You have to pay for hair cuts, usually millitary regulation style (which means a trim every 2 weeks), if you don't have perfect ironing then you're using the dry cleaners, you have to buy lots of little stuff over the first 4-6 weeks, various books and supplies. then you need down time money, for when you want to have a beer or go see a flick. Check back through the posts, there is a more detailed mention of costs somewhere in these 150 pages.... and no there is no tution costs unlike Vancouver Police for example.
