Hi guys, I'm still waiting for my call for an interview as well. I was told that it would be sometime in June or July, so that doesn't leave much time left, but I haven't heard from anyone down at HQ yet. I never did receive my RPAT marks, it got lost in the mail twice. But on another note, I went out on a ride-along last night with the local cops (RNC) last night. It was great. It definitely makes me want to pursue my career in law enforcement even more. If any of you have not tried to participate in a ride-along, I suggest you do, because it's a real eye opener. It wasn't too busy, just the locals down at george street (a no-traffic street with many bars), break and enters, alarm calls, drunk kids and fights. But I loved every minute of it. It's interesting being on the inside of the car looking out. Anyway, good luck to everyone and I'll keep you all posted. Ace13

Well, good luck on your RPAT. Try to keep focused and remember that this can be a long slow frustrating process! Keep your goals in mind! Ace13

Hi all. I'm brand new to this board but, like you, am trying to get into the RCMP. One thing I've read on this thread is incorrect. They do have summer start dates. I have a friend that I met online has just started depot July 13.
I am hoping to be there sometime within the next month or so myself. I wrote the RPAT Feb. 2001.
Good luck to all!

Well, I'm darn close...just waiting for my background to clear DIV HQ at this point. Got word a couple of days ago that my medical is cleared.
I don't anticipate any background problems. I have had an indication from HQ that as long as my background comes back good I should be gone by Sept. at the latest.

Hey there Hopefull,
I am in the exact same boat as you. I wrote the RPAT in Feb 2001 and am now waiting for my psyc exam (last step!) to be returned from being marked in Ottawa. My background and security checks are all finished and I was also told by recruiting in Edmonton (K division) that if the medical/psyc came back OK I should be gone in Sept/Oct. Where are you applying from? You had an aquaintance go to depot in July? That just goes to show you that we have to take every bit or rumor and info with a grain of salt! Good luck and make sure to keep us posted.

One additional question. I did only one PARE in May 2001 yet they are still processing my application. I trust once everything goes through I will have to pass one more PARE before I go to depot. Has anyone else had their PARE lapse (moore than 6 months)? Did they send you a letter to do it again or a phone call? Should I call them and inquire or should I let sleeping dogs lie? Any info would be helpful.

I did my PARE may of last year as well and redid it again this January when I was dealing with the medical side of things. IE: getting bloodwork done, chest xray etc.
I was becoming concerned about it expiring on July 21 so phone DIV and got 2 answers: #1 was dont worry about it unless they call. #2 was from the medical girl who said not to worry about it because my medical was already cleared.
Just curious: how do you know that your psych results aren't done?
In response to your question I am applying from B.C.

I had the first PARE expire and did the 2nd one in conjunction with the medical clearance. I have been advised that the medical clearance is good for a year so if the PARE expires but you are already medically cleared and in that year not to worry. That's what I've been told in BC anyways, and I've clarified it a few times. As far as the no summer troops go, only heard that here. There are definitely 5 in August.

One more thing. I think that each division has a certain number of slots assigned by depot. In the case of B.C., my understanding is that they can not process/find people fast enough to fill their assigned slots so there is no backlog.
I was told by a member from Sask that sometimes if they need extra slots they can just apply for some of B.C.'s "extra unfilled" slots.
My friend who just went had 9 days notice of going. Basically almost as soon as his background cleared he was shipped out.
From what you are saying it sounds like Alberta is clearing people through a little faster than B.C. therefore a bit of a wait for an opening in depot.
I also heard that the sending province foots some of the bill for the recruit. If this is the case, sending provinces will want their recruits back. This may not bode well for lower demand provinces. I read somewhere on this thread about Ont. and Que. recruits taking longer. This would make sense as those provinces would have very low demand for RCMP members.

Hopeful,
I have been in phone contact (bugging profusely! LOL kidding) the psycologist as this is the only part I have left to finish. Medical was passed in May, all neighbors from my preveious two places of resident and my current home have all been contacted. All my references have been called and the security and credit check have been completed and OK'd as per K division. You sound pretty "in the know too". How are you getting your info? I heard they want to send about 5 recruits per class from Alberta over the remainder of this year and all of next. I also heard that BC is hurting for recruits so I have a real feeling that I may be living in BC in a year or so!
Is anyone else getting concerned about he RCMP bloc recruiting method? It says on their web page that you are put into a block depending on when you wrote and passed your RPAT. If you are not selected (for depot?) in that bloc you are carried over until the next bloc. If not selected in that bloc your application is closed and you have to re-write again in a years time from your first exam. If that is true, then even if Hopefull and I got into the beginging of a bloc, we should be terminated 18 months later or this August??!! Has anyone heard anything regarding this?

Guys, How long did it take for your background checks to clear? My friend's background check was started the 3rd week of June, so he was wondering about how long did yours take. As well, what types of tests are included in the final medical? It's really great to hear that you guys are so close to getting in. I wish you all the best of luck and hope that you keep in touch during or after depot. Ace13

Ace,
I lived in three different places over the last ten years but they were all around Calgary and Edmonton. I also had about 4-6 different jobs (bartending) and a college to check. It took them about 2 months to complete my background and that was also during the G8 shut down.
Medial tests include:
Chest xray 550 t/f answer pyscological exam blood tests full medical by a physician (yes a prostate exam if you are over 40 and male!) EKG full dental check up with xrays hearing exam eye exam
