daveTO have u ever been to richmond, surrey or burnaby? they are the on the bottom of my list for preferred postings....no offence to gvrd residents. yes greater vancouver is nice as far as cities go, but it is not my cup of tea. i have a list of all bc detachments. if you want a copy i could e-mail it to u.

....I figure if I ask for Richmond/Surrey/Burnaby I should get one of those three... I heard Surrey wanted the next 2 recruit classes all to themselves.. which they won't get. But you'd have a fair chance of going there..

hey BCRCMPwanabee...what are you doing....if you don't like the Vancovuer area don't encourage DaveTO not to take it or they might send non-vancouver lovers like you and I there. As DaveTO is a Torontoite, I would assume that he would love the Vancouver area....better winters, nice scenery, not so smoggy and humid hot summers like Toronto, and Vancouver keeps its power on 365 days of the year. If you are a city person, the Vancouver area has a lot to offer, and you can spend your rcmp career there between the municipal detachments, headquarters, special provincial/federal sections. It is all there folks. Promotions etc. Yes I am trying to sell the greater vancouver area to applicants because I don't want to be sent there....I lived there for almost a decade....had my fill. However, if I was sent there I would do my best for 5-7 years then ask to be transfered to one of those lonely detachments on some gravel road somewhere in northern BC.

A long, cold winter was followed by a short, extremely humid summer. Oh yeah, Toronto's air situation is bad...but it's not really our fault (nudge nudge New York pollution)

Hey now, ain't nothin' wrong with the ol' meat grinder (as the GVRD is apparently known!), it's a great place to learn all sorts of stuff. I should know, I live here. I hope to get posted back to the LM too. I'd prefer Surrey (where I live), but I'd take anything as long as it meant I could come back home after Depot.

Good to see lots of LM lovers here.....you can have it...it's all yours.
Goose, any new info from the info session aside from the applicants that make the bell curve work? It has been about a year and a half since I last went to one....they always seem to throw something new into them.

Congratulations, Captain Airport! Pretty uncomfortable experience, eh? ;D
Now comes the RMSIG. Make sure you do a lot of prep work for it. Check out the RCMP website for a study guide.

Thanks macguy. He said the RMSIG could be as close as a week away depending on their schedule so, yeah, I'm going to do lots of work for it. I'm still surprised I got these interviews so fast.
It wasn't really too bad at all. Only took a little over an hour. I've led a pretty laid-back life so I didn't have much to report or disclose.

Capt Air, now I went into the security interview feeling like I was a good person and had high integity, morals, honesty...etc. But when you finish the interview you feel like they cracked that theory.
Those that did the security interview know what I mean.

I forgot to answer your question Cab...
No real new info was presented. They state the poly is part of the process, but when some wise guy asked why it is not used right now, the presenter said that it is in the beginning stages of getting fully running, so current applicants can expect it to be done on files that a conflict of info arises as well as it will be done randomly to applicants, until they are at full speed...didn't say when full speed was.

I have a question for you guys and gals. I'll be doing my RMSI within the next couple of weeks and my interviewer said that owing to backup at the end I'm still looking at 6-12 months before Depot. Thing is I'd like to finish my degree. I'm scheduled to graduate in spring 2005, basically a year after when I'd go if things keep up the current rate. Is it possible to drag out the process for an extra 12 months or so without them dropping you from the list? If I'd planned better I wouldn't have done the RPAT so early.

Tough call Captian Airport. I heard of people asking and getting extensions on a semester...but 12 months sounds long. At your RSMI I would ask the interviewer AFTER the interview what his/her opionion is on that.
You could also consider working for 4-5 years in the rcmp then taking a 1 year education leave to finish your degree. Not the ideal situation, but an option....the rcmp has paid tuition in the past, who knows how long that will be around though.
6-12 months before Depot after the interview?....what province are you from?

I'm in Victoria. I've decided I'm going to try and finish the upcoming spring semester and then I'll worry about my final year sometime down the road. My security interviewer said that they're having delays in final processing here in 'E' Div.
