WOW! some upset feelings here! NDP1979-what you did in the past was silly and immature! now that said, what are you doing now? You fininshed your education or are you going for a B.A./B.S. degree?Try this -do some volunteer work ,like for a domestic violence shelter or homeless shelter, that could help erase the issue (along w/ getting that disorderly conduct issue dropped). As for the polygraph-whether it is valid or not in the eyes of all these nay-sayers,the Courts still allow agencies to use it, and as you've said-you've passed it before so don't worry!where other agencies in So.Calif "might" forgive you your youthful stumblings(I said might because most judge by similar standards as LAPD), LAPD is not so forgiving-you might want to wait at least 2 yrs-it sounds like a lifetime at 23,but its not-that way you can write it off as college pranksterism.I don't know what type of work you are doing right now, but If you are local like me, I'd suggest you try specialized agencies like USCDPS (Dept of Public safety officers or try Park Patrol officer position this summer for L.A. Park Rangers); Now DPS functions prety much like a police Dept and the pay is $44,000-54,000/yr plus they send you to a POST certified academy(that would look real good to an agency, particularly since they work with LAPD and use LAPD's formats), and the park Patrol position is part time and gets you exposure to the City of L.A. and you'd learn some of the LAPD procedures there also. I've been kind of long winded , but all I'm suggesting is things to pad your resume and offset those minor negatives,'cause sadly minor negatives get good applicants turned down just like the knuckle heads with major negatives. (had a friend get turned down from L.A. Co. OPS Police because he didn't pay $24.00 of a remaining jewelry store balance 6yrs ago-he was almost complete with the backgrounds and was near to recieving an Academy date!!!).Remember this-your background inv. checks not only you ,but the people you hang out with to make a determination as to your suitability-do like I did 12 yrs ago,if your buddies can't help keep you out of minor trouble w/ the law, then cut them loose-thats harsh but it sometimes is the sacrifce for the badge.....
