YC,
Are you going for the PARE? If so, when's your test date?
Journey2CPS,
Thanks for the Halls advice. I'm sure it will be very benefitial for my throat.
You said that you beat your PARE time by 20sec, so I gather the 1st PARE expired?

Technically my first PARE was expired but since it was for RCMP standards it wasn't acceptable to CPS.
Keep in mind that the bag carry is alot more technique than strength, while it does take a bit of oopmf to get it up the carry part is all technique. Spend a lot of time just practicing the lift and placing of the bag for the carry. The actual distance is nothing if your holding the bag correctly/comfortably.

Pass for CPS is 4:00 and that is with 80lbs on the push/pull machine, then there is 100lbs for the bag carry. Unlike RCMP there isn't an academy or final PARE with CPS. that is why they have the full PARE standards (4:00) for applicants. The other nice thing with CPS is that they don't have a wait period between PARE's, so if trip or something and get 4:01 you can pay your fee again and rerun the next week or whenever you want. Alot nicer than having to wait 6 months to do it with RCMP...mind you nobody in even close to average shape should fail the RCMP PARE standards...4:45 is a LONG time for the PARE.

As the weeks get closer to the BIG day. I'm getting really nervous about the PARE as I'm having difficulting getting the 100lbs bag up, never mind the 50 ft. Can't carry it 50ft if I can't get a good hold and heft the thing up.
Journey2CPS,
Let me know how your written exam goes when you do it.

only thing I can suggest for the bag carry is practice...on the plus side the people at the UofC are not very strict. When I ran there was one girl who got 3 tries at the bag carry and another lady got 4 attempts. Just decide that you CAN do it and you WILL do it!! Power of positive thinking... ;D Good luck, an ddon't worry I'll keep everyone posted!

okay, the suspense is "killing me" -I keep checking back on your posts like its a soap opera (but then again, THIS IS REAL LIFE!!) If something good doesn't come your way or the other posters way, I'm going to round up the "wild bunch" come up north and unleash a BIGTIME can o'"whoopazz" on the CPS -LOLOLOLOL!!! But for real, I like "lurking around" and checking the posts, passing on some positives and advice, and encouraging guys/girls getting into this profession (whether down here in CALIF or up north with you guys)-makes me remember when I wanted "it" soo bad, I could "taste it" (that blue wool and badge!had to clarify that one ;D !!!! )hopefully Christmas will come with the blessings and "gift" that you really want-My gift came 12/5/90 and I've been proud to serve everyday since then............

Silvrangel, you might try sending a PM to ACE13 in the RCMP thread. She is about the same size as you, and had similar anxiety towards the PARE. Maybe she can help....

I really hope its good news!! --------------------------------------------------------------------- excellent Smithers... Ok not bad news, they just wanted to confirm some stuff on my Personal Disclosure. Now I've completed the initial screening, and will move on to testing. I should get a letter in the next 10 days with testing dates and instructions etc....more to come when I get the letter.

Well I did the PARE today. Not to impressed with my time. I have done better. Just one of those days I just didn't have the speed...I found the push pull a little difficult because it was so low to the ground. I lost a few seconds trying to crouch down so low...ahhh anyway my final time was 3:32. Maybe working these night shifts and not getting the proper sleep. It was just over an hour drive to the campus and I was falling asleep at the wheel on the way up....I have to work tonight so I will head for a nap.... I am upgrading my first aid this coming week. From the basic to OFA Level 2, then I will send everything in and wait for a call for an interview.....here goes...

Hey Boyscout,
Don't sweat your time on the PARE, at least you passed which is more than alot of others can say...Have you already written the exams and just need to redo the interview?

J
Just need to redo the interview. They keep your scores for a couple of years. I got 103/120 and passed the WCT. Deferred for 1 year at the interview last year. Kind of stumbled on one question...so here I go again.
When are you writing, or have you already done so?
