Yeah I think they are the same forms just with different letterhead... ;D I totally agree with you...hey who said that ...I have never understood why the fire dept wanted to implement the poly, because like you said it only "catches" past indescresions(?) and will not predict the future, and yeah some people are going to get through that shouldn't and some that should go through will not...

I fell victim to the poly but i guess it is all they have. Screening out some undesirables at the expense of a some desirables is better then nothing I guess. To quote some guys on the poly page "20 people are applying for a police/fire position. 10 with illegal backgrounds, half of those ten get weeded out by the poly and say 5 good applicants, you still prevented 5 bad guys from becoming cops or fire fighters." Don't get me wrong though, I think the poly should go the way of rotary phones.

I agree, (again! wtf...) but unfortunately I don't think we'll see it happen in our lifetime.

Thought I would update my progress. Just got back into town. I passed the panel interview ;D The next day I wrote the phyic test pretty close to a 1000 questions....little black circles ...and this morning I passed the polygraph. Told the truth.. ;D So I am pretty happy and now have to wait while they do my background checks. It was a stressful three days, but well worth it, can't wait to get that all important call....I hope anyways, fingers crossed. Shooting for May/June class. It was good to have dinner with you J2cps, enjoyed my stay...but teaching your son about chevy trucks is wrong...lol FORD all the way. Chat later Boyscout.

Way to Go!!!!!!!! Sounds like a very stressful 3 days for sure but the hard part's over now right Did they tell you how long you'll have to wait before you get a call? Was the poly a spotlight on you, polygrapher behind you trying to make you fail experience? Okay, I've got a lot of questions, sorry Did you do any househunting while you were there? There's so much to consider when you're coming from out of town, it's hard not to put the cart before the horse. Anhow, wanted to say congrats on your progress thus far. You've certainly put in your time waiting for it! All the best, D's Wife

Thank you, I am very happy right now, to say the least. Excited is probably the better word. The poly was fine. Yes you have to spill everything. The interviewer is there to help you through it. It is up to you, if you pass or fail. There are no tricks or ways trying to get you to trip up. Tell the truth. The interviewer has heard everything and anything. We went over my personal disclosure form and then dug deep into my past about everything. You have to. If you don't have anything to hide, then you don't have anything to worry about. As for the time frame, it will depend on how fast/slow the background goes. Whether if they are busy or how easy/hard my refrences are to get a hold of. But shooting for the May class if everything goes smoothly.
While I was there, I did go around with a realator looking at areas. Doing the drive bys...so I have a better idea where I would like to buy. Looked at Airdrie, thats is an option as well.
Now the waiting..........
Boyscout.

RJB,
I know this was a heated debate here a while back but can you honestly tell us do you actually give the CPS members speeding tickets or do you extend "professional courtesy" and let them go when they flash their badge?
I can remember thinking that there is no way I would be handing out tickets to fellow cops unless they were flagrantly exceeding the limit.
Just curious.

Yes you had to know I would say something here regarding your poly Boyscout. Good on you if you passed. That was the only real hurdle.
Would you patronize me for a sec? Just wondering if what happened to me was tried on you. Did the polygrapher ever ask you to "help him out and clear your mind by telling him/her you tried say..drugs more times than you actually did just to clear your conscience?" Maybe you never experimented with drugs but did they ever ask you to "clear your conscience" by saying you did something more times than you actually did.
I was young and nieve and fell for that one hook line and sinker. Sounds like you didn't. Just wondering if it is the same poly as when I tried over 6 years ago. Hopefully the polygraphers now are a little more marally conscious than they used to be.

No ticket was given.. they were pretty good about flashing their tin. Didn't have it out before even being talked to. And none of them were going more than 15 over. Even if they weren't CPS members they probably wouldn't get a ticket if they were repectful.

That is what is nice about the RCMP. They are given alot of "rope" to be able to make decisons in the field. I think CPS has much less as they have that stupid qouta program. Ah to have a badge and the perks that go along with it! LOL

The quota system was eliminated about 2 months ago, except for the guys from the traffic section.. which only makes sense, cause that is their job, after all. Just wanted to put in my two cents! By the way, I'm really happy to see everyone doing so well with CPS. I know some of us are eagerly anticipating the day we get that call (of course, I am one of them). Congrats to Boyscout for getting this far, and to Journey and everyone else. Later!

Hopefully the polygraphers now are a little more marally conscious than they used to be. Guest When we went over my personal disclosure form, it was asked if I was comfortable with my answer with my past drug use. Since it was almost 20years ago, I have tried my best to come up with a figure on how many times. I went with 6 because I can honestly say there were no more than 6. I was asked maybe 10 or 20? No, 6. That is my final answer. When asked on the poly about past drug use, anymore than we discussed? I said NO. and that was the truth. I was given more than enough opportunity to go over all the bad stuff I have done in the past. I told every little thing, got it out. Which pretty much was the same as the personal disclosure form. So when hooked up to the poly, I answered by Yes or No and passed the poly. No tricks, just the truth. I don't know what happened on your poly exam. All I can say is that I told the truth on the personal disclosure form and the poly questions. Some men can't handle the truth.......qoute from famous movie. ;D Boyscout

A constable in Alberta cannot ticket a constable. Therefore, if the RCMP wished to ticket a CPS officer, he or she would have to collect the info, and have a corporal or higher place the charge. This is from speeding to anything. If the speeder was say an inspector, the constable would have to find someone higher than the rank of inspector to issue the ticket.

Good on ya Boyscout. Sticking to your answers is the key. If you changed your answer you would have failed. The polygrapher would have said you "confessed" in the poly to using more than you stated on your personal disclosure form and failed you. Nice to see they are still up to the same old tricks. Glad you didn't fall for it.
As for the quota system I have heard it is still active. Not formally but my relative in the CPS says that they still get huge flak from higher ups when they don't write a minimum of 20 tickets a month.
