Hmm...that's a good question...I'll see what I can find out, and post it in the RCMP thread.

Thanks J2D,
While you're at it, can you also find out what the timeline is for progression to corporal, sergeant, etc?

That depends on experience, and competency more than time...it's "possible" to achive Cpl within 4 years, but not very probable, from what I've heard. Everyone has to do their time on the front lines, usually at least 5 years...

I see, so it's based on merits and not senority and years of service like the constables.

I see, so it's based on merits and not senority and years of service like the constables. It's also based a lot on connections. You gotta play the game beyond just being a good officer. The system has, however, gotten quite a bit fairer in the past ten years with the promotion exams.

Interesting, thanks for the info MrsJamaf. Did you know that Jamaf's rcmp recruit page is the first rcmp/depot page I found on the web? His page eventually linked to this message board and here I am, waiting/preparing to write the rpat next month

Back to the timeline thing...
The started by background a while back. The way I found out is because the investigator had a secretary? in Edmonton call me with a question today. So it begins... do or die...

I believe you can write your corporals exam after 7 yrs. There are Cst's at our detachment who write the exam earlier, just to get the 4% pay increase for doing well..
