Take up a hobby!!! No really, I understand how frustrating the time period can be....I've waited 5 month for my interview, passed and am now waiting for my sercuirty...uugghhh! Try to set up some ride-alongs with your local RCMP, do things that are constructive, organize your stuff since your going to be gone for 6 months, start sorting and sifting through everything... Waiting is half the battle of the application process... Good luck and keep us posted!!! Good News, Got the letter today that my background check has started. Hopefully within the next couple months it will be completed and I can begin training!!! Any advice on how to make the waiting less painful? El Ray

Best piece of advice I can give you while waiting is to continually work on self-improvement.
Between hitting the gym 4-5 times per week (which you should be doing), getting your life to a point where you can financially and socially leave for 6 months, and improving on things such as communication and decision making skills, you should be very busy!
Good luck with the rest of your process, RY

Thanks for the replies Amanjee and RY,
I have been working out everyday and keeping myself busy with some part-time jobs so things are looking good.
A few questions for you Ryan. I am wondering about the expenses at Depot, I know it says you need about $4600 throughout the training, is this an accurate number and what is this going towards?
Thanks for your help, I would be really interested in hearing some of your own personal experiences. I don't know anyone who is currently serving in the RCMP. Take care and thanks again.

I can try to help you with that: (although you didn't ask ) When my husband was at Depot, he spent just under 4000.00...a bulk of this going to "entertainment/things to do". Having spare time on weekends, he and a few troops mates made the most of it and went and saw Regina....yup, there isn't much, but they saw some things!.... things like going for dinner, renting a truck, gas. Plus he spent money on cleaning supplies for his dorm and clothes that he bought for his own interest (lucky me I got a sweatshirt!). A big chunk of the expense was due to the fact that he flew home once on a long weekend, so the plane ticket was included in the price. With his experience from what he has told me, people can spend anywhere from 3-5 k....all depends on what you want to do with spare time etc. Thanks for the replies Amanjee and RY, I have been working out everyday and keeping myself busy with some part-time jobs so things are looking good. I am in H Division, Nova Scotia. I went through both interviews (suitability/security) on the same day. You will find out immediatly following your interview if you passed or if you were denied movement forward in the recruitment process. I had both interviews in late September, and I have just recieved the news this week that my BI is complete and I will be going to Depot in March.

On average it ususally about 6-8 months from interviews (both of them) to depot, but I've heard of as quick as 2 months, to as long as 12 ...

The waiting is the hardest part. My info session was in January 2004 and now I'm just waiting for my phonecall. Everything is done and my file is going t the HSO this week to be signed, then they have to book my date and call me. It get's pretty stressfull if you don't keep yourself occupied. I'm averaging checking my phone messages about 10 times a day when I'm at work...just in case. Anyway, I am expecting a date sometime in April or early May. Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

Just thought I would post that I passed the Security Interview today!!!....man, what a relief. I've got nothing to hide, but it is a bit nerve racking anyway! I was told my file (E div) won't go to a field investigator for about 4 weeks and then it would start "in and around there"....mine has to be sent back to Toronto and here in BC, so it may take some time. I was told though that once the BGI starts, they are given a 30 day diary date....give or take depending on the ability to contact certain sources etc. Good luck... Hi Everybody!
