Hey YC,
I have to agree with Guess on the issue of smoking marijuana in the last 12 months….I think the RCMP may defer you for 2 years. The reason I say this is because I know someone that was in a similar situation as you. The interviewer told her that they like to see a “clean slate” in the last 3 to 5 years, so she was defered. However, she tried again and now has been a constable for 3 years.
Don’t give up your dream though…keep going!

J2D,
Good luck with your interview. I am also an Alberta applicant so I will look forward to hearing how your interview went. I know you can't share the specifics of the interview, but if the recruiters relay any current info regarding recruiting would you be comfortable passing that on?

YC,
Marijuana use within the last 3 years is grounds for your deferral. I have had a few friends in the same boat and they were all deferred from the hiring process. That said, they were not deferred for life...meaning that after a few years they could re-apply. Being upfront with this info will hurt your current application. Trying to hide your pot use (regardless of how limited it may be) will reflect extremely poorly on your application and would be a difficult hurdle to overcome in future applicaitons to the RCMP or other Police agencies.
Good luck with your decision making.

i understand that but i did not say i want to apply RCMP right now ;D i planned to apply RCMP at the end of next year or so. but i will apply for the municipal department this year to see how things go from here.to be honest with you guys, i didn't even remember the exact dates that i have my little experiment. but i am sure it's over a year right now. i even quit smoking ^^ to show my determination. well, waiting is not a problem to me.because i always plan for the worst, if so, i will focus on gaining my life experience, have a much more stable employment record, volunteer with more organization... 2 years is exactly what i am looking for to improve myself. thanks for your all.i appreciate sincere advice.

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone is sending me! Its always great to get good encouragment. I'm not TOO worried about the interview, and I have not had an interview yet where I didn't get the job, so I don't plan on starting now!! ;D I agree with the other posts about negative comments/arguments/etc...there are or forums you can do that on, and if you want to stay here start a new thread! It makes it a lot more difficult to weed out the useful info from the crap lately... Welcome to Bas, and yes the Baronm's book is very useful. I had the same book when i wrote my RPAT last Sept (4.07). Jag, Thanks for the tips! I'm sure it will go well. I'm not doing mine with the Recruiter (on holidays) so I'm having itdone by one of the retired members. From what I've heard they are even more relaxed during the interview, which makes the interviewee more relaxed. I'm getting more excited than nervous now! ;D Hey Climb, Any info that I can pass on, you can bet I will! good luck with your process, and don't give up. Just when you are ready to, something good will happen and get you right back into it again. OK, enough of this posting. I need to go relax and forget about RCMP stuff for the night...doubt it will happen, but I can try... J2D

YC,
I wouldn't worry too much about the one time marijuana use since it is has now been decriminalized. Don't let this minor set back stop you from moving forward with your goal.

BAS .................................................................................... If I may Quote you... "I wouldn't worry too much about the one time marijuana use since it is has now been decriminalized. Don't let this minor set back stop you from moving forward with your goal." ------------------------------------------------------------------- I appreciate your being positive but you make it sound like its not a big deal and I am curious as to when MJ became Decriminalized.. That's (sad) shocking news to me. Experimentation a long time ago can be a learning experience, a short time before you apply is a deferral.

It sure isn't in Alberta. The Detachment I am a SS at charged a fellow who had 2.7g of dope under the CCC. Crown accepted the charges.

RJB is correct,
Possession of marijuana under 30g is still a summary conviction offense, and if convicted, will give you a criminal record for at least 3 years.
On the other hand, Chief Fantino of TPS has told his officers that they will not charge for simple possession under 30g, but they will still seize the drugs and take down information for possible future charges.

Thanks for the clearification folks, I was a little confused with all these marijuana use headlines on the news lately. Experimentation a long time ago can be a learning experience, a short time before you apply is a deferral. <-- well said

I never purchased any books for the RPAT. The best and only preparation tool I used was the website www.policeprep.com. Its a paid membership but worth every penny....I think they have some sample tests. I ended up scoring a 4.3X on the RPAT. Check it out.

Observer,
Congrats on the 4.3x on the rpat. I came across the policeprep.com website a couple of weeks ago as well. Does it allow members to print out hard copy of the study material? What type of membership did you sign up for? The $50 trail membership is good for a week and it offers 1 practice exam only, while the $200 full membership has 5 practice exams and is valid for a year.

J2D, leave early for your interview today as traffic is going to be nuts for the first day of Stampede and the parade and all. Good luck and let us know how things went.
