Hey Guys, Just wanted to let you know that, I made the selection from the IRL. I didn't even know that I had passed the RPAT, I didn't get my results in the mail, they must have been lost in the mail. But I received my package, I run the PARE on June 3rd. Wish me luck and tips are welcomed! Ace13

Good Luck. My only tip on the PARE, pace yourself, there's lots of time. I've watched people race through the first few laps then look like they are going to die in the last lap or the push/pull. There is lots of time!! One other tip, take some Hall's lozenges, you will greatly appreciate one when you finish and can't get that tickle out of your throat.

Way to go Ace ;D Like Still waiting said pace yourself.. Its hard but not impossible. I was talking to a member, while I was waiting to run, who had to run the Pare again because she was being stationed in Whitehorse. Apparently if you are going up north you need to redo the pare even after you are a member. Anyway, she said that at depot one of the instructors did the pare WALKING it. Just to show it was not something you had to race at. If I had a tip it would have to be make sure you jump over the 5 ft part all the way . The back of my foot hit the line on my 2nd lap and I was docked 5 sec. Not a big deal I passed under 4 min but 6 X 5 = 30 and that adds up. Best of luck you will do fine ;D

Thats a great tip from still waiting. Take a lozenge with you. I did a PARE practise run last night. Man, when I was done my throat felt raw from sucking in the oxygen and coughed off an on for about an hour. Pace yourself. I did it last night in 3:23 and I didn't feel I rushed through it.

Ace13, from what I hear if you pace yourself at about 3/4 speed for the obstacle course you should have plenty of time and plenty of energy left for the end at the push/pull. Good luck and keep us posted.

;D Has any one read any good books on interviewing or RCMP or anything of that nature that they have found helpful?? I finished "sweaty palms" which is recommended on the RCMP website. I recommend that one. I have also read all Three of Robert Teathers books on the RCMP i.e.: "Mountie makers" Which were more for fun than knowledge. It all helps pass the time in this LOOONG journey we have embarked on. I welcome any and all suggestions

I loved all 3 of Robert Teather's Books. I'd also reccomend 'Shots Fired' by Gary Cameron. Cameron writes about his experiences with the Vancouver Police Dept. It's not the RCMP but it's a very interesting account of policing in Canada.
If you can find it (try the library 'cause it's currently out of print) 'Troop 17: The Making of Mounties' by McKenzie/McClinton documents the Depot experience as it was in the early 1990's
Happy Reading

Hi folks, just a question to throw out there. As we all know the RCMP will be implementing the lie detector, but what I was wondering for those of us already in the process...will we have to take the lie detector? Or is it for those people who are just getting started with info sessions in which the recruiter tells them that the lie detector has been added to the process. You guys know what I mean? Not that we have anything to hide, but it is one less obstacle in our quest! Warlo

I didn't hear anything about a lie detector? When does it take effect?

has anyone here written the rpat and not get their results? i wrote the rpat in sept 01 and still haven't received my results.i need some advice on what to do. should i re-apply because technically i did not fail or pass so i don't have to wait a year to rewrite the test. i live in alberta so would calling k division in edmonton help me find my results? if anyone out there can help it would be most appreciated. like everyone here my dream is to join the rcmp and pursue a career in law enforcement with one of the best police agencies in the world.

I wrote the RPAT and 8 weeks later, I still didn't receive my results, but I received my application package. They do a selection in April and October, so I made the April selection. But I still didn't get my marks. HQ figured that they were lost in the mail, so they would call Ottawa and get them to send me out another copy. I would highly recommend calling the HQ to at least get another copy of your results mailed out to you. At least then, you'll know how you scored on each section. Or it might be possible that something went wrong and they have no record of you. In that case, I'd say you could write again as soon as possible. In any case, your best bet would be to call down and find out what happened. It is very strange that you didn't get any correspondence from them in that amount of time! Good Luck Ace13

I would contact your local recruiting office to see if they can offer you any assistance in the matter. Good luck!
I wrote the RPAT in February and received my results this week. At the information session I was told to expect a wait of several months for the score. I have passed (4.42) and now await next contact (hopefully within a few months time).
Next challenge, the PARE!

i want to thank ace 13 and moose 32 for posting their replys.your feedback is greatly appreciated. have you guys heard anymore news about the job situation with the rcmp. last year in my local paper there was an article about the lack of interest in law enforcement and how police agencies across canada are looking for new applicants but the're aren't any and how they have to become more aggressive in enticing new recruits.there is a large number of baby boomers ready to retire from the police forces and those numbers neeed to be replaced. have you heard the same from your areas? good luck to all of you currently in the rcmp process. keep me posted on how all of you do.

Here in B.C. the last group of info sessions the recruiters told the applicants that the force is going to start to use the lie detector, but they weren't exactly sure when. So I take it nobody else knows either?

FYI (from Alberta)
I wrote RPAT in Feb 2001, received results in April 2001, Received package end of April 2001, Ran PARE in May 2001, Had interview in September 2001, Wait, wait, wait, Letter in March 2002 to go for medical, dental, etc, Call from references May 03, 2002 saying they had been interviewed.
I talked to recruiting at K division and was told that provided I passed the background and security checks, I could expect to go to Depot in April 2003! What a brutally long time to put your life on hold waiting for the call. A friend of mine also completed his entire process in May 2001 and was told he should go to Depot sometime before Nov 2002. I think they try to give you about 3-4 weeks notice.
I heard throught the old grapevine that recruiting was put on hold after Sept 11, 2001 so the RCMP could re-address budgets and policing needs. Some people were cut pre-interview but have since received reactivation letters here in ALberta. A contact of mine in the RCMP here in Calgary told me they are expecting to hire approximately 700 officers in 2003 and around that number in 2002.
My contact also told me that once you pass all the selection steps, and pass, you are put on a final unranked list that they draw from as they need recriuits. Each provinvce has their own list.
We have probably heard all this before and I can't confirm any of the info I was told but hopefully this helps confirm or deny any news you guys and girls may have heard.
