Awesome Daveman. Both Ace and I will still be here when you arrive. So, I guess that will be next weekend. If you have any questions feel free to message me. THat makes one more member of cops2be.com that makes it here. I think there are 5 of use here now. This board must be good luck! ;D Once again congrats, I know how happy you must be.
Everyone else in the waiting game keep training, keep hoping and stay on track. If you really want to be here, you will be here.
Hang tuff all

Good job Daveman, congrats. You'll love Depot as we all do. It's long, hard hours, but once you get into a routine of sort, it's bearable. I've just completed Week 3 so I know very well the anticipation you must be feeling.
A great thing for you since you're from Regina, is that you already are familiar with the downtown core for your patrol drives. Also, you already know where all the Walmarts are in town when it comes to stocking up on the items you didn't know to bring to Depot. It'll also be nice for you to escape the Depot world occasionally and go hang with your family and civie friends on weekends when you have time.
Like Storm has already stated, feel free to ask any questtions.

Hi!
my question at this point would be, what does a guy need to bring, besides the obvious. I have my dress clothes, toiletries, alarm clock, towels, running shoes (& jogging gear)....what else?
Should I bring my floor hockey stick?
What's the gear storage situation...they mention purchasing a trunk...has anyone done that?
Oh yeah, a dumb question - what kind of "civvie" clothes should I pack, if at all. Are jeans allowed nowadays or is it pretty much uniform/dress clothes/sport-wear-for-whatever-activity-you-are-doing?
See you in a week!

I have a trunk under my bed, makes stowing stuff easier, just make sure it is locked. Order of dress is business like, some people wear suits, most of the guys in my troop wore dress pants/Dokcers and a shirt and tie, actually I don't think anyone in my troop wore a suit. But, this is more personal than regulation I think. You can bring a floor hjockey stick, their are some guys here that play so I hear, I am not a floor hockey player, but I am sure you can find a pick up game. Storage is a locker/closet, a "squirrel" and drawers. There is a luggage room for that usually in your dorm. The "squirrel" is a storage area above your locker you stick anything in, just keep it locked! Not locked and that means Drill can open it and have a look to make sure it is neat and tidy.
I hope that answers some of your questions, I am sure Jamaf, Marcusinmb, Marco and Ace13 may have other tips or info when they see your post.
Good Luck!

Daveman, AFter class and on the weekends, I live in my jeans! You just need a collared shirt for the mess (where you eat). Just bring shirt, tie and dress pants for the first week until you get your uniform. Congrats by the way, if you have any questions ... I'm sure I'll run into you on base. I'm one of the smallest, shortest here, it's not hard to pick me out. It's funny how you eventually meet everybody from this board. Good luck and have fun ... you'll enjoy depot once you get into the swing of things. Take Care Ace13

DAVEMAN - 1) Just bring enough 'dressy' clothes as Storm has described for about 5-6 days of classes. After that, you'll be in uniform, unless you're anm odd-ball shape and they have to back order uniforms for you.
2) As Ace13 has stated, bring any type of clothes you wish to relax in after hours. Sweats, jeans, shorts, etc, anything goes for hanging around the dorms. Jeans are ok for mess hall, just need a collared shirt of some kind.
3) Sure, bring your hockey stick. The arena has no ice in it ever (I guess) which makes it perfect for pick-up floor hockey. Even has 2 regulation hockey nets to use.
4) The TRUNK thing....like Storm indicated, a trunk is a great idea. However....I brought my own, fairly empty, in order to store things but when I got here I found out that ALL the trunks in your troop have to be the SAME. Which meant (in most troops), we flooded the Walmarts and all purchased a $20 heavy duty plastic model which locks and fits nicely under the beds here. You'll no doubt do the same. Walmarts do well in Regina.
Keep asking, we'll answer them.
JAMAF, STORM - we still need to hook up. What do you suggest?

I just got back from Regina. Besides the fact that this island girl practical froze to death it was great to see Jeff, what and who he is talking about, and everything he's doing. My hats off to all of you who are doing this. I'm too much of a wimp to go through it all. My suggestions as to what to take......a love for chicken, the ability to function on very little sleep, and an extra snack or two to keep in your squirrel...you'll need the extra energy. Storm, nice to meet you and finally put a face to the name....sorry I didn't get to meet Ace13. Again, kudos to everyone currently at Depot...I have nothing but respect for all of you.

You got some good info there from everyone Daveman. You sertainly have a broad base of info to draw from. If you can hold off on the trunk it does mean one less thing to bring. I packerd mine full of clothes to come here and utilise it still. Mine is different from the rest of my troops, so I am not sure on the whole troop having to match. I never had a problem on any inpections so I can only assume my drill Cpl. did not care to much, but every Cpl. is different.
Look forward to seeing you.
Hey Marcus you are right, all of us from the board should do pizza or something. why don't we try for next weekend or something when Daveman gets settled? The six of usa can head out!
Hang in there all you waiting people. Don't give up and stay focused on getting here!

Hello,
I'm new to the board, but I've been lurking around as a guest for a bit.
I live in Toronto, and have applied to the RCMP. Currently, I'm waiting for the results of my RPAT that I wrote in January. I just wanted to say that is really encouraging to hear all of your stories and progress. Hopefully I will be heading out to Regina sometime this year....
By the way, for Ace and Jamaf...are there any people from Ontario in Depot? For some reason I think that as a white male from Ontario, there are no spots available...

DaveTO - welcome aboard. I actually have a few folks from Ontario in my troop. 3 males (T-Bay, and 2 from Ottawa) and 2 females. It may be tougher to get in but it's doable, even as a white male.
STORM, JAMAF - I'll be at Troop 25's Halfway on Fri and Sat is no good either. Let's keep trying, I know STORM is outta here soon.

DaveTO, There are two people fropm ON in my troop. So, I can only assume they are sending people. Downside is that they often handpick who goes back to ON for the federal stuff. But, that is not to say you won;t go back there. In my troop one did and one didn't.
Also, for those who are interested, I started finals today and passed my final detachment. For those who don;t know it is a scenario based exam that you need to pass to graduate. I do the oral stuff the written on friday.
Hang in there DaveTO, I was waiting a LONNNNNNG time. But, persistence and focus is the key. I am in to the final countdown.
Storm
ps It cool about the weekend Marcus, maybe sometime next week, how about the other guys?

Just a quick question: What types of subjects are you taking in the classroom portion of training?
