Hey Too Long,
Good opinions, I agree with some of them, but if you don't know why anyone would wait so long for the RC's, it's because there are many common reasons PLUS each applicant likely has their own specific ones as well.
Possibilities are: - National Police Force (national pride), - Opportunity to work/live in different areas of country - Family Tradition (Parents/Siblings also RCMP), - Currently in military (service/pension time transfers day for day to RC's but not other forces, comes in handy at retirement) -opportunity to develop one's skills quicker (become more well-rounded officer) due to many things like one-man cars, lack of detectives/specialized investigative units at many locations, etc.
These are just a few off the top of my head, not all are reasons of mine but could be for others. It is unfortunate that the RCMP process is sluggish and unforgiving as you say, but that does not mean it is not a worthwhile pursuit/wait for those that really want it. I agree, if you really want to be a cop ASAP and have what it takes, don't apply for RCMP--go muni. Cheers.

Hi Too Long,
I can agree with some of your points there. If I were in a major center with a variety of municipal forces I may feel different. However, like some people I don't have that option. It is great if you can get snapped up pretty quick by a local force. It means not putting your life on hold, not having to sacrifice anything. But, along with my own personal reasons for waiting, there is also only one force that is known around the world by red serge. They are thought highly of and respected professionals. If you are interested in a career that leads to investigation of the highest of levels, a career that could span the globe, a career that gives you the chance to become a more well rounded officeer (such as marcusinmb suggested) then there is only one thing you can do, make a sacrifice and wait the time the RCMP seems to have set aside for waiting. So, I wait. On the 5 and 6 of September I complete my med/dental and run my fianl PARE. Looks like my wait may soon be over.

Hey Guys, I PASSED!!!! ;D I passed both the suitability and security interview and I'm recommended to go to the next stage!!! I had record time on my interview too, 1 hour and a half. But then my security interview took a half hour. Anyway, I'm so happy right now. Thanks alot everyone for your support. I'm onward to the next step now . . . background check. Ace13

The interviewer said that they are sending my file out as soon as they can to have the background check started, but if all goes well, it mightn't be until after Christmas before I go to depot. But she said that they are expecting things to pick up in September, so things might get moved along faster. She said the only thing, where I've lived in Ontario as well, they will have to send my file out there which will slow down my check a bit compared to others who haven't lived outside the province. Now, I have to sit and wait. Ace13

ACE- congrats and well done. You're making the rest of us look bad though with that record 1.5 hr time! I think I was only on my 2nd glass of water of 4 at the 1.5 hr mark, ha

hey ace....great job on the interview, that's a really fast completion time, but i guess you got what it takes! so do you have any advice for those, like me, waiting and panicking over the interview? and which books, from the ones recommended to read did you look over? also, is the preparatory guide a good indication of the types of questions? thanks for the help.

RuffRider, First I have to start with, I know exactly how you feel. My advice to you would be to go through the competencies listed in the guide. That is a great indication of what you will be asked. I read the "Interviews for Dummies" book. I found the book helpful because it gives great tips on interviews in general. Although the interview for the RCMP is somewhat different than any other interview that I have had. To be honest, the interview guide on their website is the best resource. The main thing is, not to panic too much. Like others have said and as stated in the RMSIG, the main purpose of the interview is to see if you have the qualities required to do the job. By the time that you reach the interview, you've already proved that you have the memory, judgement etc. skills from the RPAT mark and you've proven yourself physically by the PARE. They want to take this time to get to know you and see what other qualities you have. I was lucky that my interviewer was very nice and made me feel comfortable from the start. You have the remember that members of the RCMP (the interviewers, in particular) require a certain level of interpersonal skills, so these skills are used when carrying out the interview and thus, they make you feel more comfortable throughout the interview. Take a deep breath before it starts, listen carefully to each question and pause if you need to think about your answer and then answer each question in the STAR format. Hope this helps. By the way, welcome Coltray to this thread. Ace13

The one nice thing about the process is that even though it takes forever, its all very up front...
I wrote the RPAT 2 days ago and as everyone here has said... The best way to study is to look at the Rpat prep guide on the web page. The format is similar and the questions really give you a feel for the exam. Not sure how to prepare for some of the Vocab (where did they get those words) but i think i managed quite well.
Thanks again to everyone and Im hoping that my next posting is to ask for advice in the next stage......
Ace Congrats... you sound like you will be a great member!!
Too everyone else.. Stick to it!! Its worth the wait!
