Matt R, I'll have to agree with J2D on this one..waa'chooo'takin'bout boy? you have to stay current dude...if you are replying to something someone said pages ago or on another site...then dude you have to realize that most of us read this stuff casually and have not memorized everyones posts.
However, I must say I do love it when someone comes out of left field....cracks me up. And as for the criminal justice program...tell me, after a year or so of being a police officer....would we not all have honorary criminal justice degrees anyways? From what I have seen of the crim just proagram...you would gain all that knowledge plus a whole lot more from just doing the practical police work in addition to Depot.
Oh well to each his/her own.....I think diversity is the best answer...but hey, I'm just an unregistered poster anyways.

Read the RCMP Applicants site. The person also posts on this site. Lots of people on the Applicants site post on this site...If your comment is directed to a post on the applicants forum, why wouldn't you post the response there instead of here???

If you had a date for before Christmas, why wouldn't you prebook a flight. You can save a lot of cash by booking seat sales. Let it go. Riles is excited and prebooked. He has to change his ticket now. Big deal.

Hey guys / gals. Want to comment on the 10-8 newsletter mentioned earlier in this thread - EXCELLENT reading (coming from someone early in the application process). The link to the page with the actual archives of newsletters is: www.jibc.bc.ca/police/main/policeTraining/newsletters.htmScenarios there in terms of legal issues and how the Justice system works (or doesn't work??) - give a good insight into things for a newb like me. On another note - would prior auxilary police experience in another country be a good thing? I lived in Bermuda for three years working as a computer programmer - joined the Bermuda Reserve Police in the last year. Got some good training and insight. Hopefully didn't learn any bad habits in the eyes of the RCMP! Enjoying reading the board - currently waiting for an application package (I hope!!) in J division - got a 4.24 on the RPAT, 299/500 on the RPAB.

Question for anyone from Manitoba who might be in the later stages of their application or have already gone to Depot. How long did your Background investigation take from start to finish? I know it will vary from person to person, I'm just trying to get an idea as to what the rough timeframe is these days.
And does anyone (from across the board) have any insight to provide as to how their backgrounds went? How many friends/acquaintances/employers/family members did they speak to? Did they do so in person or over the phone? Did they come to your house unexpectedly and look in your bedroom (like wpg police does!)?
Good luck to everyone in the application process. This is a great forum for everyone to provide and gain knowledge.

Take your time, breathe deep and watch the clock...don't get hung up on any questions, just move along and go back at a later time... And then there is the general..."go with your gut". I also took a look at Baron's police book...helped me out for sure...ended up with a 3.94.... Good Luck! hey, writing the RPAB in Cranbrook next week (24th), any heads up, words of wisdom? thanks

To whoever was asking about the background...they just finished mine about three weeks ago. They will contact everyone on your friend list and on your referance list as well as some employers. They also went door-to-door down my street asking about me. In total it took a few weeks, but mine got interupted by that strike...

The BGI seems to vary by person and division, I know people who had everyone on the list plus others contacted, and then there are some who didn't have a single Referrence called...so in other words, you won't know who they are going to talk to until they talk to them.

wow, wrote the RPAB on 24th in E div. can you say migraine! haha. Other than that it went good, looking forward to get to the ball rolling here. Any ideas on the average wait time for test results in E? How does the SFPQ factor into your test and what is considered a 'appropriate answer'? Any ballpark RPAB figures for a white male to get a package in E? thanks and good luck everyone!

I wrote in July and had my score about 3 1/2 weeks later...I think that was pretty good, and that's the summer months when things are usually slower (so I hear) due to holiday's. I got my package about 3 weeks after that and handed it in September 30th. You will see when you get your results how the SFPQ factors in, but if you look on the RCMP web-site where it talks about it, you'll note that it will give you an overall score, with your mark on it included...Not really knowing how they truly look at that since it is new, I suppose you'll have to wait it out....they could talk about it at the interview, but I am not too sure since I haven't had mine yet. Good luck with your score... I'm sure you did well! wow, wrote the RPAB on 24th in E div. can you say migraine! haha. Other than that it went good, looking forward to get to the ball rolling here. I have read this forum from time to time over the last 14 months, and have to say it has always been a fountain of information. So, now that I am at the stage in my process where I can offer some info I feel obliged to do so.
My saga started 14 months ago, here in "E" (Nanaimo, BC) when I went to an info session. I was lucky that this was the end of a block, so the RPAT was only a month and a bit later. I wrote that, scored a 4.07, then moved onto the PARE. This was now DEC 2003. I did well on the PARE with a 3:27 and awaited the next step.
My stumbling point came with the eye exam in January. I passed the prelim medical, ear exam and all that no probs. But, I have a lazy eye. My vision falls well within the standard limits that the RCMP sets forth, BUT, the lazy eye means I can not say I have "normal binocular vision". To make a long story short, the first eye doctor I went to was not very professional, and told me to "give up the dream". Bah!! I stewed on that one for a couple of days, and after calling RCMP health services decided to get a second opinion. This eventually led me to a third specialist in Vancouver who signed off on me as having fine vision.
The problem comes from "stereoscopic vision". That's what some people would call 3D vision. I am not supposed to have true stereoscopic vision because of my lazy eye. But the fact of the matter is that in 5 years of military life, I have never lost my marksman badge. In 12 years of driving (car and motorcycle) I have never had an accident, and in every sport I have played, I have never "missed the ball". Anyway, the RCMP agreed, and BOOM, by March my file was rolling again.
The next stage was the interviews, in June. They went by without a hitch and then it was into the back gorund investigation. After filling out all that stuff, I did a 2nd PARE (3:02), Psych, and then the dental, medical and all that. I had to do the Psych test twice, and went back a third time for an interview. The doctor told me afterwards that most likely what was showing up in the test scores is my tendancy to seek out challenges. I love to try new things, and I am constantly striving forward in life. Apparently career criminals can display some of those same tendancies! Interesting!
Anyway, finally the background investigation was completed (I have my level 3 - Top Secret- with the military anyway, so I knew it'd be fine) and all my friends and family were interogated, err, I mean interviewed (my brother-in-law even got a suprise pop in visit... weird!) and I sat waiting. This was all completed by the beginning of November.
Then, yesterday I wrote an email asking if there was any progress. 10 minutes later my phone rang at work and the E division recruiter I have dealt with for about a year was telling me my ship out date. January 9th in Regina.
I have to say that through out the process the RCMP personelle have been exceptional, answering any and all questions. They strived to move my file forward as quickly as possible, even with my own little hickups. 14 months is not the quickest, but it was not the longest I have heard of either. So, I am happy.
Lastly, never give up. Get a second opinion and if you have a specific problem that you "think" will stop your process, ASK. It may not. If I had listened to that doctor almost a year ago, I would not be writing this today.
Ahhhh.... 5 weeks, then I have a winter in Sask. What am I getting myself into! HAHA!
Cheers, Spyder
