This has been an ongoing question since the RPAB was implemented, and there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. Reading the explanation on the RCMP site is like trying to decipher stereo instructions in a foreign language. From what I can tell, they take your RPAT and change it to some different marking scale, combine that with your SFPQ score, then convert the marks to another scale which gives your new RPAB mark. It says something about a scale of 500 with 250 being average but I'm not sure if that for the SFPQ or the overall RPAB...its all very confusing. I wrote on Aug 12th and have yet to get my marks, but I don't really expect them for another 3 weeks anyways. What Div did you write in? If that div is still using the block recruiting then you probably won't see a package until after Sept which is the cutoff for the second block. So if your RPAB was competetive you should get a package sometime between Oct and Jan...in theory...

Hey guys I'v got a question I just mailed my package in and I'v got a problem I have a clean driving record and I wrote down I have never gotten a ticket which is true now in the mail of course right after I send the package comes a fine I got under the Provincial parks act over a year ago when I was DD and my drunk buddies hit the horn at 2:45 in the morning $180 fine. Should I phone recruiting now or wait till after my court date which of course I will fight this thing. Or tell them at the interview? thanks Also I'v been working in a small family buisness all of my life im only 20 but iv worked for around 6 years already I should be ok?

The fine came in the mail a year later? If you received a ticket at the time of the offence...then it looks like you were somewhat misleading in not saying so. It seems odd that you would not know until a year later that you were being charged for something...it would also seem that the statue of limitations on something like that would be 6-12 months anyways.
I do believe the application states 'any' tickets except parking ones. Don't dispute a ticket becasue you think you can win, dispute it if you were truely not responsible...because there is an integrity issue if don't own up to what you have done.
I would send in a letter explaining the circumstances of the ticket and why it was omitted from the application package....and send it as additional information to my application package. On the outset, with the limited information you provided, your story might smell a little fishy, in terms of trying to hide it or not take responsibility for it.....not saying you are doing either, but just keep that in mind when telling your story.
Good luck

Exactly what I thought the statue of limitations would make it void. I WAS not trying to be misleading as I am not stuipid and dont want to screw this up, just a bonehead screw up I guess

just remember the statue of limitations doesn't mean that nothing can be done once that 6, 12, 24 or whatever amount of time from the offence has lapsed....it means that a proceeding (like a ticket or a summons etc) can not be issued AFTER that time. So if you were issued something prior to the statue of limitations ending...no matter if it takes much longer for the payment or court process to begin or end, it is still valid. i.e. in BC we can issue tickets under the motor vehicle act up to 12 (yeah some think it is 6 months...look at the act) from the date of offence. If we issue a ticket on the 360th day from the offence, it would be valid even if court or other actions to be taken on the ticket take longer...it is the laying of the information that is the time kicker.
My point regardless is be upfront. I had 4 tickets under my belt when i was 16 to 19...when I applied I told them all, even though I knew one of the tickets was not going to be on any record (transit offence in another prov). We all make silly mistakes, and getting tangled up justifying your actions or moulding it to sound like it had nothing to do with you just smells wrong and will destroy your credibility. Anyways..thats my ramble.
Ah..a little example. If you have disputed a speeding ticket on the grounds that you though the cop would not show up at court or some other technical thing like there was a big rig behind me so that might put doubt in the judges mind about ME speeding.....and you actually were speeding, then your integrity is shot. It is like the impaired drivers that get off on a technical issue. I have never seen an sober person blow over the legal limit...however, some still get off in court on Charter issues based on minor things. You wouldn't go to a police interview and say "I wasn't drinking and driving cause the charges were dropped." Those people lack integrity.
I think I went off on some wild tangent here...good night folks.

Hey everyone,
I need some feedback on my situation, any help would be great. I first wrote my RPAT in July 2002 when i was only 20 yrs old and received a 3.51, and not surprisingly wasn't selected. In September of '03 after having finished University i re-wrote it and received a 4.03 and was thrilled to get "the package" in October. I had my interview in January and sadly was deferred due to 1 "lack of Work and Life experience" 2 " i did do Pot in High School and the interviewer felt it was too recent.... I was shocked because other than that the interview went really well. He even "challenged" me to reapply because i had potential. Anyways its almost a year later and of course i am going to re-write the RPAT in Jan. The job I had last year was a Lab tech in my old boarding school....it was a contract for 1 school year. Back in university i had found out some things the headmaster was doing in which i strongly disagreed on and wrote a Brief about in which many people saw...the headmaster found out in Feb of last year.. 1 month after the interview...and after having a long conversation it was best that I resign due to a conflict of interest....I left on good terms and he even offered to be a personal reference for me in the future since he did know me when i was a student at the school. Of course i will disclose this in my next interview, but i want to know if this is really gonna hurt me or not? Some friends who are members in the RCMP believe i should get in this time since it is my 3rd time applying and ive showed much commitment to getting in.
What do you guys think.

I'd say go for it! The worst that will happen is they say no...Just be prepared, its always harder to get on with a police force when you're younger (under 24) but its not impossible by any means.

HOLY COW! I have not been here in quite some time, it blows me away that the pages are up to 160! I see the attitude of a lot people is still good and that is good to see. It can be long process (I know exactly how you all feel). Things are good here in E Div. unforutnately I am a little out of touch with the recruiting side of things, what the heck is RPAB? Trust me though when I say this is truly the greatest job on the planet, I still can't believe I get paid for what I do! Keep up the good attitude and if there is any E Div'ers (or persons planning on coming to E Div.) on here that have anything specific feel free to message me with any questions or observations. Storm

Hey Storm, Long time no see!
The RPAB is the "new" version of the RPAT. Applicants still write the regular RPAT exam, but it now includes a Six Factor Personality Questionaire (SFPQ). The marks from both exams are then combined (60% RPAT 40% SFPQ) to give a new RPAB score on a scale of 500 with 250 being average...Clear as mud? ;D

Yeah, the RPAB was introduced to "level" the playing field so to speak (from what I've heard). But now you seem to be getting people with a low RPAT mark (under 3.4) getting packages before people with a high RPAT (4.10+) because the lower scoring RPAT person had a higher combined score with the personality exam...not saying thats wrong per say, but I tend to think the exam portion should be just the apptitude part. Personality is better judged in person, at the interview IMO. I think the RPAB process still needs some tweaking...however, as long as they are working toward improving the process its a step in the right direction.

Respect had nothing to do with my response, it had to do with my making a smart ass comment. If you had left off the question mark, it would have been a statement. If you can't take a little sarcasm from some stanger on the internet, how are you going to deal with it as a cop? Maybe you missed the big yellow sarcastic smilie at the end of my statement? In regards to "respect", as a cop you're going to have your first contact with a person to "gain respect" or be SOL in your dealings, perhaps you should keep that in mind for day to day dealings as well? Just a thought. Your welcome for the answer. Oh man...did I not answer the question? Yes this is a forum for asking and learning, I never said it wasn't or even implied it in my post. Am I not allowed to make a comment to rib someone about a three word "sentence"? Have I "blabbed" on for hours to prove "How smart I am"? I just feel that if you can't take the time to post a conherent full sentence to ask a question then what else do you not take the time to do right? Wow. You sure have a strange way of dealing with people on this forum and making people feel welcome to post. I did see your sarcastic smilie and I didn't appreciate it because I didn't feel it was warranted. Ever heard of anyone in too much of a hurry to post a long sentence when they have a legit question to post? By the way, I'm not going to be a cop. My husband is and I'm curious about the entire process he experiences... when I hear that the security runs out, that was something I hadn't heard of before logging on to here (which I do often). I would hope that I would be "allowed" to ask anything on this forum, regardless of its length in characters. It's good to see some of the people coming back on to this forum (storm/ace) who were here in the beginning.
