Jas, that's really great, congratulations and good luck at depot. You didn't get much notice, but I am sure that you are ready to go I was wondering, were you contacted to let you know your medical was cleared? My background was started and some references were contacted but not all of them. My final medical has been done for a bit but I was talking to the recruiter a couple weeks ago and he told me that unfortunately in Alberta no medicals are being cleared for the month of August due to vacations. So, I am just waiting for background to be completed and medical cleared. Good luck again!!

Good job macguy....I always knew a fellow Mac user would have no problem at the interview (assuming that macguy refers to your computer and not a position you have at McDonalds) And, "guest" please don't rant about how PC's are better Jas......the phone call, great! The way things are going with me, I should be a month or so behind you. Rexina....good point on the last post. With thinking skills like that, you will kick a** when you get back to that interview again. therecruit1.....it looks like we are at the exact same stage in our filed investigation and medical, I wonder if BC or Alberta will be the first through the gates

therecruit1 - the RCMP Health Services in BC were really good at letting me know what was happening with my medical. I was contacted by Health Services and my file manager when the medical was signed off on. Thanks for all the congrats and I hope to see some of you in Depot! ;D Jas

does anybody know how often troops are being put through this fall/winter...or even better, dates? Well, after I was told my interview was successful, my interviewer said that if everything else went well I could expect to be in Depot for December of this year... so they have at least one troop going this winter!

BC,
Literal translation reads:
"If you can read this, you're overeducated."
Always made me chuckle. ;D

Wanabe, In talking to my file manager about a month ago, she said that they are generally sending one troop per week....sometimes skipping a week here and there....until the end of this year at least.
As for how many from each prov...I have no clue.
Has anyone hear if they are adding an extra four weeks to Depot to bring it back to the lenght it was a number of years ago? Heard this somewhere.....don't know where.

Probably from me. ;D
The recruiter at the info session I attended last month said that training duration at Depot is being increased from 22 to 26 weeks, based on feedback from recent graduates. No word on when this is supposed to take effect, however. This was the first (and only!) thing I've heard about it.
Anyone else with more info?

Hey Macguy, congrats on your interview !. Like everyone has been saying, we all needed this. It is good to see some positive news on this site again, it was starting to become a very depressed and negative place. Also big congratulations to Jas for making it to Depot ! You made it, way to go ! You are envied by us all.
As far as being able to go on ride alongs after your interview, it apears to depend on the detachment you contact. I called 4 different detachments in the lower mainland looking to get info on ride alongs. I had to leave messages at all of them (more than once) and only two called me back. From those two, one said that they would only do a ride along after you complete your interview, but the other said that as long as you have received a package that they would take you. In fact I am scheduled to go on one this Saturday night. I am really looking forward to it, has anyone here gone on one before ?
Rexina makes an extremely valid point in regards to the recent discussion on past wrong doings. We all make mistakes but we have to be accountable for those mistakes and be able to grow as a result of them. I think the most important thing is that there has been substantial time since your mistake, that you show genuine remorse and that you have distanced yourself from the path you were once on. To say that you don't do drugs anymore but you still associate with those that do is not going to go over real well with an interviewer.

Dalex,I am going out with an officer this week too! I went out with the New Westminster Police Services before, they are extremely friendly and professional!I like the way they do their job.I guess I am lucky because the officer offered to take me out, else I won't be able to go out since I am not yet an applicant.
And,I am going out with VPD as well. This is something I had long wished because they are the department I wish to work with!
Have fun Dalex!
