STILLWAITING--thanks and I'm with you. I guess I've made my point and I can quit ranting now!
Good luck this week to all the short and long-timers out there.

Thanks, every little bit of encouragement, advice or opinions that I hear helps considerably. Like others, I think the wait will be worse than the interview.
Guys, I know it gets frustrating, and I totally agree that this process should be streamlined to keep qualified applicants on board. But we all got to realize that in the grand scheme of things, what is 12-24 months in our lives, if that is what it takes to reach a goal. Don't get me wrong, I know the waiting game is not pleasant, but I'm sure that when we all get to depot and graduate, we will know that it will be worth it. Try to remain positive and know that in the end, you'll be living out your dreams, and what a feeling that will be!
Just some thoughts for you guys. That's how I like to think whenever I start feeling frustrated and down on the process.

Hey there people,
I can definitely understand everyones frustration here. I don't think there is anything I could say or add as it has already been said. One thing I was wondering, has anyone here looked into collecting employment insurance while they are in training? You would think that since we are going back to school to retrain we should be eleigable for some compensation. I have two friends that went through depot about 3 years ago and they were trying to back collect EI. I haven't talked ot them in a while so I have not heard wether they were succesful.
As an aside, my boss just walked into my office and told me some interesting news. His son in law is also applying to the RCMP. He has been finished all his application steps as of July 2001 (about 14 months now). He just got his call from depot saying he is going in either troop 19 or 20 sometime in October. Thought you guys would be interested to know the RCMP machine has not rusted to a halt!

that's great news that things are moving forward for some people. It was quite the wait for that guy though! It's nice to hear though that things are moving along.

I looked into the EI thing. I was hoping to go while on parental leave which is allowed but my parental expired long before I'll be in depot. Had taken the 6-18 months on the RCMP website as a guideline but didn't realize at the time that the process was so logjammed.
I also looked into regular EI. It is allowed assuming, of course, that you have not quit your job. Essentially you have to go through the process of applying that your are retraining for a new career because you are unemployable.
Note that you must sign off that you are not financially able to do it yourself. I got the impression that, in reality, they could care less about this part but it was a deciding factor for me in not applying (way to honest for my own good). Of course the process has taken so long that my regular EI claim ran out as well so it's a moot point.
Another problem for me as an auto mechanic I am easily employable. In fact, in the end, I have taken on a new job while I wait for the call.

Hi everyone, Remember that you can get a student loan when we are at depot. ( thinking positive) When I was at the info session they gave us a little booklet, stating that it is available to us. They gave the loan code number. It takes a few weeks to jump through the hoops, but when you know your getting close to going to depot, apply. I have spent most of my savings going back to school and making up the months when work is slow. So I will be applying for the student loan. If not then I will borrow from my Ma...or a bank loan. Either way, if and when I get to go I will make damn sure I will have the cash. I would even sell my old 71 mach 1 to go. Heck my wife is up for sale..LOL just kidding dear....... Good luck everyone Glenn ;D

Hey Hopeful,
I am trying to put 2 and 2 together here. My bosses son in law was told he will be going to depot in October into troop 19 or 20. Does that jive with your friend who went last month was it? What was his troop number?
You brought up the same point I was pondering. For me to get EI I would have to get my boss to "lay me off" and I couldn't honestly do that and live with myself. I have since saved up money and cashed in my RRSP's to get myself through training while still maitaining my bill payments. I figure I shouldn't need that many RRSP's if I get in I can expect a fair pension.

PS for those of you in Alberta, the guy mentioned above was on an ALberta applicant list of approximately 100 to 120 people cleared and ready to go and he was about number 100 to 110. This list was composed of applicants that were finished their process pre Sept 11. I was told I was on a list of about 40 to 50 applicants who made the interview stage post Sept 11 and whos files would be completed for selection to depot. Doing some rudimentary math I would say anyone in the same boots as myself here in Alberta should now be on the final list at about number 20 to 40?

hey guys I talked to the guy from cadet Training Program Support and Evaluation in Depot last week and he said that they are pumping troops through right now. One troop a week is going through right now. ;D I don't know what that means for us but its better that no troops I don't know about you guys but I'm just taking a leave of absence from work. I have a wife (also not for sale)lol and three kids (rentable) at home and want to keep my work benefits going and or a job to come back to if something unforeseen happens. i.e.: break an arm or something. Or worse yet fail... eek not going to happen. I have been putting $$ away since I started this process and have enough to cover mortgage payments while I am gone. I also got a line of credit from the bank just in case we need extra. I took this to my interviews to show I had prepared financially. There are a few adantages to haveing such a long process. Had this been a shorter process I would have had to sell my house and move in with the mother-in-law. aaaaaaa!!!!! So other than its just a long wait at least I will keep my home. Untill Im finishe Depot of course and get stationed in Nunavut.

Jamaf, Have your references/associates been contacted yet? It's a good idea to have the planning already done for depot, because you never know how quick they can make up their minds on when they want to send you to depot. I know of people who had only 3-4 days notice to go to depot. I think you're well prepared. Good luck to ya. Ace13

Well guys, it finally happened. I just got a call from recruiting, my interview in on August 20th, 9am. . . . in exactly one week. So now the pressure is on, I have to review all my notes and calm any interview anxiety, but hopefully I will be fine. Wish me luck Ace13
