Good luck Lance!!! Some people think it's good to just apply one, some don't. I don't think there is anything wrong about that. I too have a ex-colleague who apply both RCMP and VPD. Got offered by both, she went on with RCMP. You are at a good age to do this, all the best!

Lance,
Well, you definately seem to be able to articulate it very well...that'll take you far in a job as a police officer!
Good luck with the apps. As I mentioned, beyond the fact that I didn't want to be anything other than a mountie, I was too darn lazy to apply to all the police forces! heh heh! I don't know how you manage it.
At 31, don't worry about getting younger, as the average age of troops at depot is probably in the high 20s to low 30s......we had 3 people in my troop over 40, and only about 3 or so people under 25....you are at the prime age......and can retire (with penalties) at age 51....not too shabby!
Cheers, RY

You sound like you have everything under control. Good luck. You are the prime age for applying.
One last word of advice regarding the poly. Under no circumstance, ever, regardless of what the polygrapher says, DON'T EVER CHANGE YOUR ANSWERS FROM THAT WHICH YOU STATED ON YOUR PERSONAL HISTORY QUESTIONAIRRE OR INTERVIEWS.
If you know you have nothing to hide, stick to your guns. When he/she comes back after the exam and says something to the tune of "you are showing a problem with XXX question" stand your ground and maintain your original answer. If he/she says "OK you stated you tried drugs 6 times, do you want to help me and yourself out and say maybe 10 ro 15 times just to make sure your conscience is clear before I hook up the machine?" maintain your original answer!
Like Sales said you sound very intelligent and articulate and should not have any problem. You are also mature and not the young nieve 24 I was when I first applied. Stick to your guns and you will make it. Good luck again.

Hello all from Depot,
Just a quick hello while a have a few minutes. You do have some time the first week but from I have been told the work really starts to pile up as soon as we lose the green Cadet tag and get are piture tags.
Don't give up on the process no matter how long it takes, I was told so many times, "When it happens, it'll happen quick." and it's true.
Cheers all!

Cheers, RY RY, Thanks for the correction, I did notice it after I pressed post, and I always hate it when I do that. What troop are you in? I am always looking for people to answer questions even though it isn't hard to find someone to answer them. Relaxing is hard to do, I keep expecting the work load to double and the waiting is the hard part....again. Cheers!

I have a question for everyone about the RCMP policy to transfer their officers every 2 years. Does this really happen every 2 years? I know to expect transfers but every two years seems quite extreme. How would one develop any routes in a community? How would one gain any policing contacts or the trust of the community they are policing if they are transferred that regularly?
I've heard that the RCMP has relaxed this policy somewhat but I would like to hear everyones opinion.
Thanks.
Lance

Every two years... the RCMP would have zero $$$ after paying the moving companies etc. - lol. I am in BC and there are two members at our 30 member detachment who have been workin here for 14yrs straight. They are pleased with their current job and are not going for a promotion at this time so they are happy to keep their families in one spot. Seriously, never heard of two years - unless ofcourse you are taking a 2 - 4 yr limited duration posting in the toolies - lol. It is "usually" up to the member to request a transfer and the norm is don't bother askin until you have put in a min of atleast 5 years before they will consider moving you.

Moving every two years was something the RCMP did I believe 10 to 20 years ago. Old school.

Moving every two years - if this was done to most all members it was atleast 20 - 25 years ago or more.
Lance - you are definitely getting your "inside info" from and "old timer" lol.

It's not uncommon for a first posting to be 2-4 years... A LDP (limited duration posting) could be from 2 to 5 years. Perhaps that is giving the perception of 'lost of moving around'. Most of the moving is initiated through the member - to get to a 'better' place (subjectively of course), or to pursue promotions. Waiting for a spot to open in your detachment might take a lot longer than taking the promotion and the move.
Plenty of members are riding out the last 1/2 or more of their career in one place. Again, depends if that is what appeals to you... if you want to move, internal division transfers are much easier than inter-division or inter-region. Something to think about when you take your first posting - you might be in that region for a long time...

How much choice/input, if any, do you get regarding where you're first posted after Depot?
