I haven't personally, but I have several friends that are police officers, and several more in the application process.

Hi everyone, I was talking to my recruiter in Calgary and learned that they maybe slowing the training classes in the new year. They may not have one until June or possibly September due to the G-8 summitt, and of course how many put in for retirement. Plus Calgary police are in the middle of their wage contracts. Also they will have to see how much money they will have alotted for training. But if I pass all the interviews I will be ready to go as soon as the next class starts. So if this helps anyone, great. Until next time, keep your stick on the ice. ;D Glenn 8)

Yes it was on the Cross Country recruitment. I am living in NS right now. I applied in the Last Spring.
My background has finished, I'll be going up to the selection board on the 19th or so... Really looking forward to the 19th!!!
Glenn: You said one Police Force turned you down. Which one and why??

Glenn S I had an interview with Delta Police. But due to the high number of applicants and the very limited number of positions open, I was deferred for a year. Usually with people of my maturity they prefre piror policing experience. At first i took it as if I was too old, but after an hour on the phone with them they said that was not the case. I almost have my diploma, so they said to reapply after i recieve it. They said I was an excellant candidate but others have more education than myself. I was hoping that my life experience would out weight that, but apparently not, oh well. It seems that a lot of people want to police on the west coast, due to the weather no doubt. So there is a lot of competion for the positions. I should be finished my police sciences and law enforcement in January, so I am looking forward to that, hoping it will give me an edge over others...like you ;D...just kidding...well maybe.. Anyway hope you make it. Glenn 8)

Calgary is trying to put throw a bunch of classes in time for the G-8 summit. They also received enough funding for 36 more full time positions... Looking good for you Glen!

Thanks Vern, I read about that in the Calgary Sun a few weeks back. There web site also says that they still need new recruits for the next couple of years. I hope that is the case, I would really like to accepted this spring or earlier. Sometimes it is hard to wait, oh well, good things when one waits for it. I am so determined and vocused on becoming a police officer, Calgary is on top of my wish list. I will see how it goes in January, then I may look at Edmonton police. Just dont know if I could get my wife to go. She is born and raised in Victoria. When it is 5 celsus out, she is freezing....I tell her about the chinook winds that Calgary gets. Plus her brother moved to Calgary a couple of years ago for work. So at least she would have family out there. Thats what I keep telling her anyway... ;D Until next time...keep your stick on the ice. GlennS, One week for background, wow thats fast. I guess I was sort of figuring a couple of months like the RCMP takes. That really makes me excited about my January interviews. Thanks for the information. I can hardly count the days. Glenn 8)
