Jason T. Are you going to be in Calgary in January to write the tests? I have to rewrite the wct part of it. They say most people, if they fail one, will be the apcat. But I failed the wct, missed one, ONE important fact, on the fact sheet. I included it in the report, but NOT THE FACT SHEET. aaahhhhhhh. Anyway, so I will be in Calgary in January to rewrite the wct. They have set me up with the interviews since I will be in town anyway. I only have to rewrite the wct, and it is the same one as before so I know that I will get it this time. They give you plenty of time to write the tests. I found them to be more realistic in a police test. But they still aren't easy. Study your basic skills like math and vocab etc. Study a police exam book. I bought the Barrons, "Preparing for police officer exams" , Cliffs "Police officer exams" and one other one from the libary. You will need a 84 out of 120 to pass the apcat part. There are some memory questions. Check out their web site for their practise exam on the wct part. It will give you some insight. I talked to my recruiter today and unfortuantley this G-8 summit thing has thrown a wrench into the recruiting part. They have hired for their next training class to begin in January 28,2002, the next one might not be until after September 2002. So it may be a while until their next class. But since I am flying out they will put me through the interviews. Best of luck to ya, maybe i will see you out there. Until next time, keep your stick on the ice. Glenn 8)

Well Everyone, I made it! I have to be in Calgary for Uniform fittings, Fingerprinting, and Photo IDs the week of the 20th. My class orientation is on the 24, and the class starts the 28th. I didn't find the apcat or the wct hard, just long and tedious. You have to really make sure you take your time and answer the questions as bext you can. I got a perfect score on the wct, but I can't remember the score on the apcat. A lot of people failed from the group I wrote with. Some found it very hard and others didn't mind it. When I wrote we did all the testing on the one day. 7 am to about 6 that evening before all the tests were corrected and the people interviewed by the recruiters. The next weekend we did the interviews, poly and psych tests. If you passed all that you sent in an application form, and waited for an opportunity to do the PARE test. If you passed PARE, you moved on to background checks. The process we followed was different and compacted due to our distance from Calgary and the fact that the recruiters were only there for a week. Well, good luck to you all, and hang in there! GlennS

Well first I would like to say congratulations! So when did you find out? I thought that the January class had been filled several months ago. How many people were you competing against? I am still curious if they have a shortage of people applying in calgary.

Thanks!
I found out on my 31st birthday, the 19th of December. My file manager was working all week in preparation for the Recruit Selection meeting on the 19th. I think that is the last selection for the class on the 28th.
Not sure on the number I was competeing against or how shortage on upcoming classes. I do know that Calgary has to get a lot of its recruits from outside the province.
Glenn, who was your file manager??

From the Calgary Police Service Website:
" As a result of the need for the Calgary Police Service to be fully staffed by June 2002, the Recruiting Unit has currently hired all of the spring and summer classes.
The next projected classes are anticipated for the fall of 2002. Our commitment to continue recruitment of qualified applicants will not change.
The Calgary Police Service will continue to identify the best applicants and a reserve hire pool will be developed. As the needs of the Service are identified, successful candidates will be notified of their potential start dates, pending successful security clearnace and an occupational medical. "

Glenn S, Congratulations Glenn s that is great. ;DAlthough I am a little jealous..I would be there except that one fact I missed. Damn. You must be excited. I'm happy for you. That G-8 summit has really put things behind. They still need new officers due to retirment. But they will be a little behind. GlennS if you can, e mail on your progress, if you have time. I will keep pressing on and hope to make it in with Calgary in the fall of 2002. Once again, congratulations Glenn
