Hey, this may sound like a stupid question. Does anyone know why police light bars are (red only) in Ontario, even for RCMP cars? They are red and blue everywhere else in Canada, so why not Ontario? If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Kev

Hey Glenn, Yup my stuff is due Nov.12 as well. I have the next two days off, so I'll be booking pare, and getting all the other stuff out of the way then. Plus I was smart enough to photocopy my past application information (ie last year). So the forms will be really easy for me. This took a lot of time last year. Good luck. Also I'm not so sure about all this info ie for provinces etc. When I had my interview last year, I was told right at the beginning, that the scores are selected nationally not provincially or even regionally. So I don't know whats going on with that. I wrote my test in Vancouver June sometime (near the first can't remember).

Hi Kev, to answer your question. Cop lights are red only in Ont. because blue lights are used by lots of snow removal trucks in rural areas of the province as well as orange. Blue is ususally associated with large plows and grators. It is not uncommon to see pickups with full blue lights on the roof, plowing private driveways. I don't know if this is so in the large towns though. It must confuse people a bit. G-Q

Hi, yes, this is an awesome time to apply! I had geared myself up (or down I suppose) for a big wait but that is not to be. I live in Saskatchewan. -wrote RPAT 15-Sep-02 -got results back a week later saying I made IRL -wrote Psych test 09-Oct-02 -ran PARE 17-Oct-02 -had suitability/security interviews 24-Oct-02 And here I am....I have my dental/medical on 26-Nov-02 and have been advised if everything goes well I could be in Depot as early as Jan/Feb 2003! My two cents. Dave

Way to go Dave. Its totaly wierd the differances between the provinces. Im in BC I wrote the rpat in June 2001 got my results Ocotber 2001 got my pkg in November and ran the PARE. I had till wait unitil June & July 2002 for my interviews. I recieved my medical Dental pkg in August and my Background investigation started in September. As of 2 weeks ago I still had one outsanding file in my background and I found out that I JUST was medicly cleared. 16 months and counting.

Hey Jamaf, this is the "Daveman" who has been in touch with you over the past month and a half. I feel somewhat guilty in that I just stumbled on this site and I've been reading about everyone's long waits and such to get in....and mine is cruising along quite quickly. I don't fully understand how all this works. All I have to say is, I REALLY lucked out I guess in terms of when I applied and where I live. But in the end, we've all got the same dream, eh? Anyway, I notice the other "RCMP" subject has more posts in it regarding applicant hopefuls so I'm going to post in there like the others. Good luck all! Dave

Epoxy7...just a question, if you filled out you package last year, it sounds like you made it to the interview and were unsuccessful, and have now written the test a year later. Is this correct? Just wondering since there is a two year wait after being unsuccessful in the interview for me and many others that I know.

Yes, that is correct AK. I wrote last year and had my interview. They have the option of either deferring you for one year or kicking you out of the process (ie two years). I was deferred for one year because of marginal credit. It's up to the interviewer, whether or not you're back in two or one. -Now the bad news, in what has now been a year and a half, I have had the wonderful oportunity to remember all the not so good things that I have done. There have been about 4 such things. The last two were about 7 years ago. However I only mentioned one at the time of the interview (I was poorly prepared). I'm going to mention the rest, and try to explain that I was not trying to be dishonest or deceptive. I fully expect to be kicked out of the process at this point. Oh well. Better to be kicked out than have anything in your past that can be used against you by others. So I'm not really excited about my interview at this point in time. I'm guessing it will last 1-1.5 hours only.

That is really interesting...On mine I did not actually fail, my lowest was a 3 out of 5, but the interviewer said that her quota was made at the beginning of the interview, hence she recomended that I not proceed. Kind of a tough blow. I questioned it with her superior, and he replied that although it seems like an error, he cannot go back and re-examine it because everyone would want that done. I received an apology letter from him, but it also stated that I would have to wait the length of time that my interviewer said...which was two years! Another spot of contention is that they did not know if it was two years from interview to interview or before I could start the process all over again. They still have not made up their minds, and I have been told that it is best if I wait the two years or hear a definitive from them first. Well 16 months down, 8 to go. BTW, I was told that if I take the test early and they decide that it should have been two years, that it would disqualify me for life....ouch! Anyway, I think it is time to give recruiting a call again. In the mean time, my wife is through the process now and just prepping for the receipt of her letter. Recruiting told her she is clear to go, but waiting for the background doccuments from the other side of the country to actually arrive so that they can be added to her file. Good luck.

hey AK,
that is a tough blow. but 18 months down......has it gone by pretty quick for you? i know that they evaluate you on 8 competencies. so when you say that you got 3 out of 5, do you mean you got that score on one of the competencies, and passed the others? do you know the criteria in terms of the scoring and how well you need to do? ie. do you need to pass all the competencies?
have you done anything differently in the last 18months to better yourself for the next interview. and to help you in that competency that you scored low in? good luck to you in the process.

I'm sorry to hear that AK. I was deferred after the security section, so I didn't go onto the benchmarks. That sounds fairly strange to me. Especially with her recommending that you not go any further. At that point you have nothing to lose by continuing. Personally AK I wouldn't wait, I'd apply for municipal forces. If you get into a municipal force then after two years you can apply for a special entrance into the RCMP. You'd only be at depot for 5 weeks instead of 5 months. Also you're paid for your training with the municipal forces. A buddy of mine went to the Van pd info meeting the same day and at the same place that I went for the RCMP info meeting. He had his interview already before I even received my application package. He was deferred for 6 months not a year, and by the time I get my interview he can probably reapply for Van PD, without having to re-write the test. This is probably the route I'm going to try and take, if I don't get into RCMP this time around. I can't afford to hang around, I'm not getting any younger. Something to think about for you there AK.

Hey Glenn, Hows the package going? I was reading past posts, and you're from Victoria? Uvic grad here Victoria was lots of fun. Good luck with your application. I take the Pare on the 12th then hand in my package right after that. I still have to get the passport photos, and the medical clearance for the Pare. I'll be doing that in a few days, and then it's time to hit the written info. Luckily I already went through all that timeline stuff for work and residence last year. It took ages. Knowing how these things are I'd better not leave it to the last minute.

Epoxy 7 I live in ole Victoria. Born in Port Alberni. Island Boy.... My application package is almost done. Eye test on Thursday and the pare on Friday. Since it is the long weekend, it looks like I will have to catch the ferry over on Tuesday to hand it in. Don't want to take a chance with a couirer. Last time I sent something by couirer, they lost it.... I did have to get some of my employment time line in order, but it wasn't to bad. Just the times I was unemployed I have to explain....laid off from logging..thats a taken. Just the time I was hit by a drunk driver back in the mid 90's. I hate people who drink and drive. Had my hearing done yesterday, ok there. Just want to get the pare over with. Last time I did it in 3.27, So if I can do the same or better I will be happy. Went for a long run yesterday and just got back from the gym today. I will take Thursday off from working out. I am hoping that being in the Saanich Police Reserves will help my chances in the interview stage. One of the Corporals at the rcmp detachment where I volunteered for 18 months, he said he will help me prepare for the oral interview...I want this so bad... I have 35 years of life experience to draw from. ok the first couple of years I can't recall to well...lol Anyhow, good luck on the pare epoxy. chat later Glenn Badges?..We don't need no stinking badges....LOL
