J, my file manager hasn't told me what class I'm in the running for but I suspect that it would probably be one in the coming new year. My poly and psych aren't until November and I don't think there is a class until February or March. If you hear any different let me know. Good luck on your interview.

Hi guys
Sorry for the delay - I had the interview yesterday but wasn't able to get to a computer until today. Well, I passed the interview - boy, does it ever feel great. I guess I was a little anxious to get it done & over with. For everyone who is doing the interview in the next while, good luck, and just keep the competencies in mind when thinking of examples, use the STAR format and relax & have a good time in there. So now it's on to the psych & poly the rest of this week (I guess at times it's an advantage being from out of town). Anyway, best of luck to everyone and thanks for the tips & "good lucks".

Romano and Dave,
Read my post in the RCMP thread. Watch out for the CPS poly.

Congrats on passing the interview Dave. On to the dreaded poly and psych test. Good luck and let me know how you do.
Sporto, you are freaking me out about the poly. My biggest fear is to go in there and to be wrongly labelled as being decietful and then be disqualified by the CPS. I have no intentions of lying in my polygraph but your story scares the crap out of me. Do you really figure the anti-polygraph site would help.

I can't stress the point enough Romano. READ THAT SITE. I am not saying employ countermeasures but educate yourself on the questions they ask and the trickery they use to fabricate confessions. An example of something that happened to me during the CPS poly was:
I said: I said during my panel interview that I experimented with drugs 4 times in high school (not a disqualifying fact).
During the pre-poly interview the polygrapher says that to "help him out" and to ensure you don't spike or screw up your poly you might want to say now that you tried drugs 10 or 15 times to alieviate your conscience before I hook up the machine. Me, thinking that this is how they do a poly said OK lets say 10 times. (I now know I was young and nieve). The polygrapher writes down that you confessed to using drugs 10 times as opposed to your stated 4 times, you are labelled a liar and defered for LIFE! I have tried everything to fight this and get it reveresed and they won't do a thing. CPS can keep it on file as long as they like and tell whom ever they like. One little mistake like that has screwed me from becoming a LEO for life. Don't make the same mistake. Read the web page and book so you can see the tricks and twists coming from the polygrapher or you may fall victim like me.
They also try to buddy buddy you and say that nothing that is said during this poly will leave this room. "All I (the polygrapher) make to recruiting is a a pass/fail recommendation." BULL! Everything is recorded on paper, by audio, and they videotape it. The mistake I made is I waited till 4-5 years later to question why I was defered. They told me sorry but the video and audio tapes, that I feel would have exhaunerated me, were destroyed and they stand by their polygraphers notes/fabrications/lies. They will ask you all sorts of illegal, by labor and hiring laws, questions so be prepared. They also strong arm you by saying "I have to inform you that you have the right to refuse to take this polygraph, however there is not a single serving rank and file officer on the CPS staff that has not taken the poly". Take it or you don't get hired!
I don't want to scare you but just inform yourself so you don't fall into the trap I did. I am pretty pissed about the whole thing but there is not much I can do but move on, not let this thing eat me inside, and warn others like yourself to not get suckered by the wonderful, lie filled, deceptive polygraphers. Go into that polygraph with the upper hand! Don't let them fool or scare you into thinking that they know all with the poly machine. There is absolutley no scientific basis or backup for that machine. No one person or machine can tell if you are lying or telling the truth. Good luck.

Sporto, Geeshh that sucks to be eliminated by a machine!! Too bad you aren't a Yank. In the State of Oregon, polys are illegal to use for employment practices. So they can't use them, nor can they use previous polys from other agencies. AND since oregon is a very liberal state, large amounts of drug use are not a limiting factor as long as it was in the past. 8+ yrs. I am sure there are other states, other than Oregon, that have a similar law. Hmmm you could always immgrate to USA and then wait 8+ yrs to get citizenship. ;D Sorry to hear Sporto. I am sure you worked hard to get to that point too. Thanks for the advice on the poly. I am trying to choose from two countys. One in Oregon, one in Washington. Oregon is looking much better as WA has a poly exam! Porl

I hear you. I tried 10 years ago to ge down to the states to join the Marines. I needed a green card and was told to gt that would be 10 years of waiting! The Marine recruiter told me to cross the border, find the nearest bar, and ask girls there if one would marry me! Pretty unreal. The FBI, CIA and such use the poly do they not? I read this study on the poly web page that said around FEb 2001 the LAPD started to implement the poly for hiring and they were turning away 50% of their applicants based on the poly results! Sound like a witch hunt to me.

Sporto thanks for the info. Besides that question about drugs what other questions did he ask you? Do they basically just go off the disclosure form and ask all the questions, or do they just randomly ask them?

They will ask you everything under the sun. Have you ever:
stolen anything killed anyone raped anyone vandalized anything masterbated watched porn had sex with minor sexually touched a minor had sex with animals drove under the influence done drugs been in a gang cheated on your spouce
You name it they ask it. As you can see half the questions are illegal to ask. NEVER change your answer or try to clarify your answers. Never admit to anything, no matter how small you may think it is, if it may be concidered a disqualifying fact. READ THE WEBPAGE! They will cut and paste things you say to fabricate confessions out of context.

You will do just fine. Have confidence in yourself and why you want to do this and then let it shine. Best of luck to you.
