Well I am now one week away from my panel interview with Calgary. I dropped the ol' suit off today at the cleaners and the nervousness is really starting to hit me. I hope I'm ready, I'll keep you all posted.

I had my interview today and I passed ;D It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My interviewers were really great and made me feel quite comfortable. For all you CPS wannabes out there, listen to your file managers because what mine told me was exactly what the interview was like. What a great feeling to have it over and done with...on to the poly.

Thanks for all the responses guys. J, my best advice is to make sure you have several examples for each competency they will ask a question from. That way you won't be stuck thinking of an example on the spot if one of their questions throws you off. Relax and take your time when answering, don't rush!!! Also before you begin answering think of exactly what you want to say then do it.
Ace, well the crappy thing is that now I will probably have to wait until November for my poly and psych because CPS is so backed up with other candidates. However I am also on a waiting list in case an earlier date opens up. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I can't remember Romano, but do you have a current application with RCMP as well?

Ace, no I don't have an app with the RCMP. I never really considered applying to them because I didn't want to move really far away. I would move to some cities nearby to become a cop but not out to Nunavut or something.

J, the study guide on the internet is pretty much "bang on" to what they will throw at you in the interview. They will ask you first to tell a bit about yourself, ie. work school etc. Then they will begin with the 5 questions. One from each competency: 1) Intiative, 2) Tenacity, 3) Teamwork, 4) Judgement/ Problem Solving, and 5) Tolerance for Stress. If you have a few life experiences for each of these then you should be ok. After they finish the 5 questions they will ask you why should the Calgary Police hire you? They will then send you out of the room to discuss amongst themselves if you were successful or not. They call you back in and let you know right there. It is pretty stressful to start but after you get in the room you'll feel calmer than when you were waiting. Just relax and you'll be fine. Good luck to you. By the way when is your interview?

Hi guys
Romano: any word yet on a poly/psych date? I've un-blocked, and the examples are starting to come pretty good - better late than never! Two weeks and counting now...
J: I did my interview last year (and going for round 2 soon!) and can back Romano up - the waiting to start is worse than the interview itself, which I actually enjoyed and had fun in. Just relax and be yourself. The questions are based on the interview guide competencies. They're not looking for "I'm superman & saved the world..." stories, just examples of how you handled yourself well in a situation. Before you know it the hour will be up. And at least you don't have to wait 4-6 weeks like with Wpg police. Best of luck to you. When is your interview set for?

Dave, well I have my poly and psych dates set but they are not until November. That was as soon as she could get me in there. I am on the waiting list to see if there are any cancellations which I would be more than willing to fill up. I am hoping to get through the process before the end of october. If it takes longer than october I will have to re-do my PARE and eye exam. That's another $130 I don't want to spend but oh well. Good luck on your interview.
