Hello-
I'm taking classes at the local community college to become a LEO. One of my instructor's is the former chief of police at the agency that I'm thinking about trying to get on with. I've done a ride-a-long or two and talked to personnel dept today.
I've decided that law enforcement is where I definately want to do for a career. Do you think I should try to not only gleen information from my instructor but maybe use his name to assist me getting into the academy if possible. The agency would sponsor me in the academy if I needed help.
I'm nervous but want to move on with my life and don't know if I should just go through academy or apply with the agency and then get sponsored into academy. Any thoughts or comments? Am I approaching things the wrong way?

What state are you applying within? In maine the only way you can get into the academy is by being already employed fulltime by an agency.
As far as using someones name always have their ok first. This will also help you out because he will be prepared for the phone call, not blind sided and have nothing prepared to say.
If you think this instructor would help you get in to the academy, then you really should be asking him these questions.
Best of luck
