Hi, I have recently gone through the interview process with my local department and failed the backround. Which does not bother me as I will keep trying. I have recently been reading up and have come to the realization that I have been suffering from Anxiety disorder for basically all my life. My mother suffers from depression and takes medication for it. I guess it may be hereditary. I dont suffer from depression as the only thing that realy bothers me is, that I get really nervous when I start new things, or are in situations where I can be embarrassed and am exposed to groups of people I am not familiar with. Now, I would like to get some treatment for this condition, as it has really affected me, even to the point where I have lost alot of hair from constant worrying. The only thing is, is that I am afraid that if I do go get treatment and the doctor prescribes me medication, I will be eliminated from any chanc of becoming a police Officer due to my condition. Does anyone know if my condition would be one that could not be discriminated against in terms of employment for the policer officer position. As it probably cant be discriminated for some positions I know that the policing position has diffrent guidelines. Thanks for your help/

I'm not sure, I remember a post here from a while ago. I believe that as long as it's treatable and you take you meds then you should be fine. I would inquire with the recruiters at the departments your interested and ask them these same questions this will be your best answer. As far as your background is concerned, did your BI tell you that this is why you didn't pass your background. There are any number of possible reasons. Most departments won't tell you the reason. Well Good Luck KUP

They wouldnt tell me why I failed, which is stupid because I dont know what to change for next time.

Yeah, most law enforcement agencies will not spill the beans; however, isn't that the point though, for you to find out on your own what you did incorrectly in their eyes. I mean, if they were to tell you what you did or didnt do, anyone could easily do what they want. Better luck next time and hope all goes well for you.
