Hi all -
In what way is one's medical history and medical issues discovered during the hiring process? Does someone in the dept. ask the applicant to sign a release of information form?
Is it inevitable that my taking an antidepressant will come out? Need it be? I take the medication b/c it has helped me with some (very mild) irritability. I KNOW that it doesn't mean I'm crazy or unfit for LE, I just don't relish the idea of trying to convince others who may not be so open minded.
thanks in advance for any tips

Typically, an applicant will sign a complex release form with either the initial application form or at the point of the background inspection.
Usually these forms release the department to talk to anyone about you - doctors, employers, friends, teachers, credit agencies, almost anyone.
My guess is the information will come out at some point in the background investigation. Be honest if anyone asks any questions about the medication. If you appear deceitful, you will not be hired.
Oh, and relax. Lots of people get depression treatment in many forms. Cops are not the exception. I bet it won't be seen as any kind of big deal.
