I just learned that I passed my oral board with a 77% score. This was a bit disappointing because my goal was to score WAY up there. What happens if I end up toward the bottom of an eligibility list for a dept with, say 800 or so officers? Will they still do a background, poly etc? Or do I just sit in no-man's land?
--------- Also, do most departments have overtime possibilities? Or, is this one of those things that just varies? The reason I ask is that, I'm changing careers and will need to take a sigificant pay cut to be a cop. I'm trying to figure out how much I'll be making (that is, assuming somone will hire me).
Any advice appreciated. Happy Holidays, Frank

Hello, It all depends on the PD for the overtime thing. Most PD's are low on officers so OT is a possibility at most PD's, you should ask your recruiter or a current officer at that department. As far as your oral score of 77%, hate to say it, but this score is low . DO NOT LOOSE FAITH ;D - most PD's allow you to take the oral as many times as you want while you are in the hiring process, therefore practice and reschedule. They will place you on the eligibility list but the response might be minimal. If they didn't schedule you a back ground interview that day or any advancement in the process I would assume that your process has become stagnent. Maybe you should try another PD. (Not too many, this looks bad). Hope everthing goes well - hope all the nonsense I typed above will be alittle bit of help. Nick
