So I decided that I wanted to be a LEO. Little did I know the long and grueling process to actually get the uniform (I won't even touch on getting the badge )
(Oh BTW... this is a "get things off my chest session" and hopefully be useful to someone out there.
I passed the written.. actually very high scores.. Next came the PT. I failed with 2 situps too short. Bummer.. But the re-take 2 weeks later I passed with flying colors. Soon after, 2 days to be exact, I passed the oral boards. Next as some may recall, I also was cleared from my Background Investigator and at that time I received an offer to start the Academy Jan 2, condition on passing Med and Psych tests. No problem, these are just "jump through the hoops" kind of tests. WRONG...... now the story begins:
I was told that going to the Psych test to be totally relaxed, be honest and up front. I was.... to a fault... not with honesty.. but relaxed. There was about 1200 questions total.. 4 different tests besides the MMPI2. and then the interview after the 1200 question... long day. So I relaxed and did the job. Man, I failed. And do you all want to know why... Heck you may just think that anyone that fails a psych test is wacko. Nope. Nobody told me until afterwards that this dept has a 50% fail rate for the Pysch Test!!!! FIFTY PERCENT! So, they of course can't tell you why. However, the HR person had been rooting for me all along and hinting that I was too nice of a person, I need to be more aggresive, and too relaxed. Sgt later said I needed to have more command presence. Doesn't the world need more nice cops?? ;D Ahhh come on! To get soo far.. ahhh Romano.. I feel it too..
So, after I feel like a pyscho and realize I have to tell everyone (family, friends) that I failed the Pysch test, and then have them look at me like I am a pyscho, life was hard for a day. Next day, I get the guts to call the HR person and find out more details. She highly encouraged me to apply next year and stated that I was a borderline case...(basically 2 situps short again) And the big question, will other dept have access to the results of the test.. NO. test results have already been destroyed. Good news there.
Where to next? I am going to volunteer at our county's correction center. I will be running a DUI/victims panel for a few months, maybe moving over to booking and interviewing new "lodgers" when they arrive. Maybe then, I could develop a better command presence. HR lady said to do things that move me out of my comfort zone... Better start now. I am young, 28, I can wait another year or two before I jump into the academy.
Thanks to everyone here for their support. I will hang around.. but this Cop2be won't be getting into uniform anytime soon. Good luck to everyone else in limbo.. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
