I heard from someone that police force recruting may start to slow down in the next few months as they have now done most of their replacement hiring. Is that true?

Not from what I've heard. RCMP is going strong for at least another 5 years, and Calgary is about the same. Most forces aren't getting the same number of people applying that they used to which means less people are selected for training. Plus the number of people retiring is still going up.

I'm going to re-apply...eventually Things keep coming up and I have to postpone my application. However alot of the stuff that has happened has given me good examples to use for my interview when I re-apply. I'm anxious to do it but I believe everything happens for a reason, and when it's time for me to get on everything will fall into place.

I saw recently that toronto police service post secondary education for recruits were as follows 30%university degree,40% 2 year college diplomia,30%high school or equivalent. From the following it is obvious that a university degree is not the final deciding factor in hiring.Just thought somebody might be interested since everybody I meet seems to think you must have a full degree to get hired and it is obvious from the stats(and they are for the most part stable across the country)that that is not so.

Here in the U.S.,particularlly the "western states" and the West coast, hiring is booming along very well, even with Depts asking for 2yr degrees and Bachelors degrees. The problem? like in Canada-mass retirements of teh 70s,even 80s generation of coppers! Many are spuured on by the fact that-contrary to the "PC" crowd, this is a YOUNG,STRONG and HEALTHY MANS "game" (5'0",110 lb female officers are NOT going to "one punch" a hardened felon and take him into custody, like in the movies or TV!!).The officers that protected us of that generation are worn out, tired of the political B.S. and want to have a life that doesn't require late nites, bad food, and pissy violent drunks-plus,as with all of us- when you get older ,your body gets OLDER, and injuries don't heal as fast anymore.
People have complainted that diversity has "lowered" the standards of officers throughout North America. Not true in on aspect, but true in another.Todays applicants are probably alot smarter ,in terms of education, and their ability to relate to the public they serve. But with the current "war on terror",which Canada is also actively involved in with the U.S.,and a far more liberal society than in the past,"traditional" jobs, such as Police"man",construction worker, firefighter, etc have been passed over by soft ware designer, home decorator/refurbisher,e trade analyst, game s programmer,etc-Folks are looking for "Freedom" in the job to come and go as they please, get paid top $$$,and have less stress-police work demands too much to alot of todays youth.Plus the fact that lesser paying but "Easier" jobs are out there, military vets are staying on active duty longer ,and getting the pay bonuses for it,and so Depts are stuck with hiring someone who would have "normally" applied for ,say , a clerical position or as a bus driver with a municipal, state ,or provincial gov't agency.and "no" they aren't the biggest of toughest people-society has deemphasized the "high school jock" as having merit and people who can"fight" are thought of as "thugs" or sports entertainers( a recent MMA athlete applied to my Dept. and is "rumored" to be soon dropped from the porcess-not becuase of bad credit or background, but because he has engaged in a "violent" sport and that could come up as a "liability" in the future-what a joke!!!).To those of you still coming to Cops2be,take heart and stay encouraged-as long as your heart is in it for the right reasons, you'll be hired..........
