Anyone out there can recommend a book that is a good, comprehensive guide to the policing profession? One that is available at book stores is a bonus, all of the ones I've found I have to order on-line. Thanks

There is a book called Blue Blood, which I think it is pretty good. It is a autobiography of a NYPD officer. You can get the book from your local library.
To prepare for your interview, there is a book called Canadian Police Work, which is very GOOD.
If anybody has heard of some good books on police work, please recommend ;D

Hey,
another good book is one called Shots Fired, im not sure of the author but it is a good read if you can find it. Read it during school and was full of great Canadian police based stories mostly. Check it out though.

Stick with the "how to " books like,Barrons -the "action" books cannot help you in terms of understanding the "mindset" of being a police officer/constable/deputy sheriff/state trooper. That is an experience which you the individual alone must discover on your own( or with your peers in the academy or on the job) - now if you are looking for entertainment ,thats different. Joseph Wambaugh has always been my choice- then again I work for the city of Los Angeles ,so the choice is obvious..............

There is a book entitled "Behind the Badge". It is not an instructional book but more or less a reference book. The book is about the history of the Depot Division way back in the the late 1800's to the presant date. It also has lots of other little tidbits like some stuff on the CTP...etc. Look it up at chapters.
